Actually that is a bit oversimplifying things. Fighters sell their own tickets and are taking that risk all career by trying to balance sponsorship, often a day job and then ability to attract fans that will pay them for tickets. As they become more successful and prove themselves as having the pulling power, promoters will start to shoulder more of that risk and start selling and promoting more on behalf of the fighter. Most fighters do not make it to the level where they do not have to worry about personally shifting tickets. Big Promotional companies and Television Corporations can absorb that risk because they are set up to do just that promote. They do not have to embrace the risks the fighters do and have both a stable of fighters and a whole card to offset that. They win all ways. Fighters are there to make money. That is why it is called prizefighting. The fighters then often go on and to train and mange other fighters or at the very least inspire grass roots boxing which fills the gyms and grows the talent pool from which promoters cherry pick. So no, actually there is no way to argue that the boxers themselves are taking the money out of the sport. They are the sport. They employ everyone from trainers to managers and enable promoters, not the other way around.Quote:
