Re: Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor: I have nothing but respect for Winky Wright!
There's a lot of squabbling over whether or not JT is worthy or not.
Let me just say this...the kid's worthy...no doubt about it...but he's fighting the best in the world...he's gonna look bad. One of my fellow posters made a comment about Hopkins making anyone look bad...that's true...but you have to step back & look at how good Taylor actually looked against Hopkins.
He looked better than anyone else has in over 10 years & he went toe to toe with the Executioner. He's knocked out the majority of men that he's faced & he had Joppy running from him. Things like that have to be taken into consideration.
When Taylor first came on to the scene & I saw him all those years ago on ESPN...I thought that the kid was something else. I warmed to him almost immediately because of his ability to stick & move & his personality. After the ESPN shot came his HBO gigs & the rest is history.
Taylor is being groomed. Make no mistake about it. The problem is...he's also being rushed...pushed...just like Vargas. He's being thrown in with the best in the world & now there is no turning back for him.
He'll have to face & destroy the Sturm's, Abraham's, Sylvester's, Miranda's, & Gevor's of the world or else he'll be discarded...just like Jeff Lacy was.
Hell...right now...he's in the same boat as Lacy. He either performs 110% against Wright...or he's in the can...& that's a shame.

:coolclick: some very good points wacko. I think we all tend to forget that he is still a young 28 and he is still learning boxing at the elite level.

:coolclick: right back.
We do indeed tend to forget that he's a youngun & he's fighting the best there is...Hopkins is a tuff act to follow...but I think that he can do it...after Wright's done spankin that ass!!! ;D

I still have no doubt in Taylor's abilities. He is just not to my liking the way that he could have been had he not cheated his way to victory over Hopkins. I hope Winky cracks him upside Taylor's big shining baldhead.
Re: Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor: I have nothing but respect for Winky Wright!
I'm just gonna say it again. Winky has nevebeen in the ring with a real middle weight like JT. This will be the toughest fight Winky has ever fought. I'd have to say that this will be the second toughest fight Jermain's ever fought. As good as Winky's defense it was hopkins footwork dropping down that was giving Jermain problems. This wont be the case with Winky. Winky is not unbeatable.... I mean he almost lost to Mosley in that second fight. I mean an over the hill mosley at that. Jermain just beat the freakin number one pound for pound boxer in the world twice. Argue if you will but he got the W's. Somethin that noone else has been able to do in a decade. Jt is big. A lot bigger than winky. winky has never fought anybody bigger than hih all, and with the power and speed that Jermain Taylor posseses for you to act like he doesnt have a shot at Winky Wright is ludicrus. You have to remember that before Bernard Hopkins a man that takes everybody out of their element ,Jermain dominated and i mean dominated everybody he faced. JT by late KO,and again doing something that others have failed to do.

on the contrary.... Hopkins didn't impress either. You don't really make any sense to me.. I mean Winky beat up a retired version of Tito, Hopkins stopped the prime version! Compare Hopkins v Tito and
Hopkins v Taylor II how you manage to figure Tito would KO Taylor from the evidence at hand dumbfounds me?
A "retired" version of Tito??
The same guy that knocked out Mayorga? How old was Tito? I think he's still fairly young. ???
Plus, let's not forget that styles make fights. I'm saying that Tito would probably be too rough and skillful for Taylor. Tito's left hook could catch Taylor more, the same way that Taylor got hit with a lot of shots well-planted by Hopkins when he definitely should not have been awarded the win in the first fight!
Taylor just looked more "aggressive" against Hopkins. That's all. But, when I watched the fight a second time, I saw that even though Hopkins did throw a limited amount of punches (especially counterpunches) on Taylor, Jermain was eating some of those punches clearly in the face, getting schooled.
Now, Tito hits hard! Hopkins was able to beat Tito because of his great skill. Does Taylor have the same skill? No, at least not yet. Taylor is aggressive, with a stiff jab, and can come forward well. I give him that.
gimme a break!! Tito was retired for 2 years.. size and style wise Mayorga was served up on a plate by Don.
I wasnt referring to and I don't consider the 1st Hopkins v Taylor fight relevent as they both fought a better fight the 2nd time.

Re: Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor: I have nothing but respect for Winky Wright!
Given Jermains height and style he may beat Winky Wright the same way Wladimer Klitschko beat Chris Byrd. Because if Wrights strategy is to fight the same way he's been fighting Trinidad and Soliman, he will lose a boring fight with Jermain jabbing at or inside his gloves and then moving away before the response comes.

I agree he is being rushed but I'm more than glad they are!! To many fighters these days are guided so well we refer to them as PROTECTED, it nice change to see a young guy in his prime wanting to fight the best. Imagine if he didnt fight Hopkins?

Honestly, I have to give respect to Winky for all he has done & I don't look past him, but INO Taylor will pull off the UD, but it will be hard!
If all is fair & fair...I don't see a UD at all...maybe a split if Taylor is back to old form...but I think that he show's Wright too much respect come game time...& that will be a mistake.
If Taylor were to come in determined & focused & 100% the old Taylor...I think that he'd put up a great fight...but I just think that Wright will have too much on him.
Could be wrong...we shall see...either way...this is a great fight for boxing & fans on both sides.
Damn, are fighters have so few fights these days that we refer to someone with 20 some fights as having to revert to "100% the old Taylor"?
Re: Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor: I have nothing but respect for Winky Wright!
Winky's never been in with a true 160 fighter. Taylor's by far the biggest, strongest guy he's faced.
Taylor's fought a crafty ring vet. And beat him twice. But he wasn't a southpaw w/ the worlds best defense.
That being said, I like Taylor to get the decision.
