Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
lampard and gerrard with carrick playing the holding role behind them would be a nightmare for defenders
but good ol sven will probably bring in another big center half and try him in that position even though carrick plays it week in week out!

Lampard and Gerrard with Carrick holding the oranges for half time, would make more sense.
I think that England are going to struggle at this world cup in scoring open-play goals. The midfield is good, the defense is solid, but we are weak up front this time. Crouch and Rooney are not target-men and owen is struggling for form (but not as much as fat-boy-Ronaldo).

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
Spain walked away with whats been so far the clearest victory.....4-0 over Ukraine poor Shevchenko had no one to help him out and the Ukraninian 'D' just fell asleep.....
What a great 2nd game of the day between the Tunisia and Saudia Arabia......Tunisa took the lead 1-0 then Saudi tied it up 1-1 the Saudi took the lead 2-1 and toward the end Tunisia tied the game 2-2 great game.
Germany I don't know I thought they were gonna be consistent and come out and bash Poland (Since Ecuador handled Poland) but that wasn't the case the polish keeper was on one and managed to make some great saves and in the 90+ minutes Germany socred. Not convingcingly but they have put themselves in 1st place and a shoe in to advance.

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
My overall impression of England's performance was today was.....decent.... I think my poiny from earlier was proven, they should have Gerrard further forward,Lampard is not as good as him and wasted a fewchances and just did not look good overall.Beckham, great deliveries.Leenon, excellent sub to have.I tell you who impressed,Ashley Cole. His runs added another dimension to attack.Joe Cole has skill but when he cuts inside,he is too greedy, always going for goal,I noticed that at least 3-4 times! Terry was superb and Crouch got the goal was poor otherwise.I feel for Owen,I think he's great but in the ifrst half, was feeding off scraps. When he did get the ball though,he held it up very well.
The worst thing is...when did England become a 1 man team.Rooney is amazing but I thought England could play better without him than the do!! Compare the first half and then when he came on,it was like 2 different teams! I thought they had enough match winners and I know the result is important but what if he gets injured again etc etc. What are their other options. Now England are through,I want to see Walcott get a chance in the last match,at least as a sub!!What you guys think of the performance?
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
England fans, keep real. I keep it real I told you guys Argentina didn't really convince me in their win, they struggled most of the 2nd half.
But you guys gotta stop making these outrages predictions of 3-0, 3-1 be real right now England is edging out wins, but not convincingly.
Englands performance was a little below average in fact it was just above their 1st performance and were very lucky to win, would
T & T have scored 1st it would have been a different game but Terry was there to clear the ball.
T & T tired out and just couldn't hold the draw for 90 minutes......According to Englands last 2 performances they will not go further then the rds. of 16. Theres no way they can keep playing like that and advance.
Crouchs miss when Becks served the ball to him on a plater was just childs play this is world class and thats the best definition you could come up with?
Schoolyard definition for him and should be thankfull for that 2nd oppourtunity he got.
Gerrards goal was superb, great combination of power & placement.
Any predictions for Arg vs S & M and Mexico vs. Angola?
I'm gonna say Arg. gets on track and wins a comfortable win 3-1 with goals by Saviola, Crespo & Aimar (if hes put in the game)
Mexico will get a shakey win over Angola 2-1 struggling towards the end of the game.

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
England need to up their game drastically if they are to hang with the big boys in my opinion. They need to take more of their chances! They wont get as many against the likes of Argentina, Brazil or Italy as they have been getting against Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago, so they really need to take advantage of the ones that come their way.
As for the other matches:
I reckon Argentina will win 2-0 against Serbia & Montenegro. They should start Carlos Tevez in place of Saviola though in my opinion. Nothing against Saviola, but Tevez is a class act with a massive future... they should get him playing in the tournament early to give him experience.
I reckon Mexico will topple Angola 1-0. They will just have that extra glimmer of class although it wont be easy. They are without Borgetti too, which wont help matters.
What does everyone make of Ecuador? Those guys look real good, a real surprise package. I fancy them to upset Germany in their last match. ;)

kaviedes never scored for my beloved palace and nor did delgado at saints!

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
So peeps, who are you impressed with? I tell you 1 thing,Italy and France do not look particularly threatening do they?!? Both have players coming to the end of their great careers and both lack pace in my opinion. Surprises for me have to be Ghana and Ecuador!! Slick pacy teams, could be the dark horses! I also fancy the Czechs to beat Italy, knocking them out. Still unsure about Spain,1 4-0 win does not prove anything yet. I wish Ivory Coast went through, they are so unlcuky to be in a tough group and it could be argued that they deserved 2 draws!
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
ivory coast, ghana and argentina v s&m
good goals in this world cup 2

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
So here we are in the rds. of 16....... So whos it gonna be?
Germany-Sweden: The way Swedens been playing I reckon zi Germans will pummel Sweden 3-0, Germany is at home and has THE ENTIRE stadium behind them (includuing zi refs ;) )
Argentina-Mexico: Mexico plays at is best when the pressure is on them, they have beaten us before so it woulndn't be a surprise. BUT you know me Argentina has score many goals and that is a confidence booster. Though I hate saying this but Argentina will score and take a lead then sit back and just freeze the game up not giving Mexico a chance to have the ball.
Engalnd-Ecuador: England will score early in the match, struggle in the last 15 min. of the 1st half. England will then score the 2-0. Ecuador will be very close to scoring with great ground attacks thru the middle but won't have enough to win.
Portugal-Netherlands: This is too many the toughest one to callon for this round. Portugal counters at the speed of light, Netherlands as woken up and has shown what they got. Ulitmatley I think Portugal will win a very close game. in Extra Time. 2-1. Menaing they will be tied 1-1 thru 90 and win in Extra Time.
Italia-Australia: (Right on Snakey :D ) This is set to be a good match the damn! Aussies run like leopards.....I told you they never give up they showed it against Japan, they played the full 90+ minutes against Brazil like it was gonna be their last, they were down 2-1 vs. Croatia today and didn't give up to edge out a 2-2 draw to give them the adv. I expect Italia to dominate the 1st half and and go into ther half on top 1-0. Australia will rally in the 2nd half and with that same attitude of not giving up and going forward will even things out 1-1 towards the last 20 min. of regulation. Unfortunately for tyhe Aussies Italia will edge out a 2-1 win scored on a contraversial penalty kick.
Brazil-Ghana: My, my, my.......Ghana has REALLY shown something, can they keep it up? Brazil has risen and is ready to samba......What a mastersfull breakdown of the Japanese team, it looks like Ronaldo has finally arrived to the world cup. Dinho is showing up here & there. Ghana dismantled the Czech Rep. & US. They lost their 1st outing vs. Italia IMO as World Cup 1st game they were nervous and thats that. They got over it and now they are ready. In the end Brazil will break them down wining 2-0.
These are the games as of today.....
What do you guys say?
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
the only ammendment i would make is that i fancy holland to beat portugal, should be a good game though.
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules in
Brasil have come alive 8)
Ronaldo (yes overweight) has sparked it off for em and they looked different gear last night against japan.
Looked like a proper Brasil side in the 2nd half ;)
Robinho looks quality too 8)

We were shit in 1990 too (not that we were at home) - nearly went to lots in the group, only a Mark Wright goal in 1-0 win over Egypt got us through. Got battered for 119 minutes against Belgium, before Platt popped up, battered against Cameroon and would've lost but for 2 pens!!

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules in
Tunisia down to 10 men so the 2nd half should pipe up a bit...
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
France still did not impress me massively today, they play like 3 seperate untis as opposed to 1 cohesive one. I think they should start with Trez though,I mean I know he had a bad match but his positioning etc is excellent so he is bound to score.
Anyone read the latest news,Carrick is starting the enxt match(I wanted him to start form the beginning!),going to 4-5-1,Rooney on his own,no Crouch.. I was wondering, has he played this identical formation with the same players before? If notmwhat a time to do it!! I don't really rate Sven as a manager, his tactics suit defensive minded teams(ie Lazio in Italy) but not on the international stage! He needs to let Gerrard free, let him play his more attacking role!!! He is Englan's best player in my opinion and can win matches single handedly, even at internationla level!
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
you know why his done tht imo is cus then if rooney needs to come off near the end he can replace him with crouch weras if crouch was playing rooney would have to be replaced by walcott or the formation would have to be changed half way through the match
he seems reluctant to play walcott even though he fucking picked him
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)

nope
in mexico 1986 argentina defeated west germany by 3 goals to 2 to lift the world cup
at italia 90 a repeat of the final was staged this time west germany ran out winners 1 - 0
both teams won after beating england in the knockout stages

Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
There are still too many unanswered questions about Germany and Costa Rica scared them(in the first match)whenever they attacked with pace...no one does that better than South American teams and Germany are going to have to play 1 in the next round! I cannot believe how poor Sweden were though and I don't understand what went wrong!! Cannot wait for Mexico Argentina!!! They drew in the Confederations Cup didn't they and Argentina squeaked them on penalties?
-
Re: Fifa World Cup... GERMANY 2006 discussion thread (link to match schedules inc)
germanys defense is poor, to open at the back and they will be have some more scares if they r to progress.
i think argentina will have to much for mexico but will be a good game.
portugal holland could be a good un 2

For once,we agree!!! I don't think they have been tested properly yet.Oh,Portugal Holland and France Spain?? I think Frnace can get back to their best,I mean on power, they are a frightening prospect!
