True that... But Taylor is well schooled so this should be an very interesting match up! I'm pulling Pavlik by mid round stoppage.

I think if Taylor withstands the first few rounds of Pavlik's power, he will do very good. And stay off the ropes like you mentioned. Taylor is more experienced than Pavlik and I think that will give him what he needs to pull it out.

We'll see. I just want the better fighter to win. Taylor might have the edge in the boxing skill but he looks off balance alot with Spinks. But that is what Spinks dose is make fighters look bad. If it comes down to a fight Pavlik is walking away with the bling. He has the chin ,the power ,the reach and the longer arms than Taylor. I cant wait for this one.

thats generic boxing talk and you have nothing to back any of that chin and power garbage up. tell me a little bit about what you base this on. taylor may need some mechanical work or somthing like that but he is days more powerfull than kelly and has never even been stumbled.

31-0 Kelly Pavlik (jumping) will take on 27-0-1 Jermain Taylor in New Jersey on Sept. 29. (AP Images)
Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik have closed a deal to put their undefeated records on the line in a fight for Taylor's middleweight championship.
Lou DiBella, Taylor's promoter, said the fight will happen Sept. 29 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
If Pavlik (31-0) wins, a rematch would take place at the super middleweight level. Taylor's team has become increasingly concerned lately about the champion's ability to slim down to the 160-pound middleweight limit.
Taylor, of Little Rock, Arkansas beat Bernard Hopkins in 2005 to win the middleweight title. He then beat Hopkins in a rematch and escaped with a draw against Winky Wright. He then outpointed Kassim Ouma and Cory Spinks, two fighters up from the junior middleweight ranks.
Taylor (27-0-1) drew criticism for fighting the two smaller opponents, but there should be fewer complaints about his next foe. Pavlik, of Youngstown, Ohio, fought on the Taylor-Spinks undercard in May in Memphis, Tenn. He stopped Edison Miranda in an action-packed seven-round bout that in many ways upstaged Taylor's split decision over Spinks.
Pavlik and Miranda combined to throw 191 punches in the first round. Pavlik's promoter, Bob Arum, compared the fight to great middleweight bouts of the 1980s.

You mean to tell me Taylor wouldn't be wobbling around after 5 sharp power shots by Edison Miranda placed right to his chin. Also you saying Taylor is way more powerful than Pavlik . He landed a greater amount of power shots on Spinks. Spinks looked the same after the fight as he did before the fight. He landed on Wright and he never broke. Pavlik has murdered every bit of comapetion they have put in front of him. Including a guy that tagged him a bunch of times and broke Abraham's jaw. Pavlik walked through everything he threw at him. Re: Taylor-Pavlik official! Tickets go sale Tomorrow
20.05.07 - By Alden "The Kid" Chodash: Saturday night was sort of a crossroads night in the middleweight boxing division. We saw Kelly Pavlik, 31-0 (28), slingshot to the top as a result of his terrific knockout over a fighter regarded by many to be the most dangerous middleweight on the landscape, and we also saw Jermain Taylor, 27-0-1 (17), lower the expectations of himself with his second unimpressive struggle against a naturally smaller and weaker foe.
To his credit, Cory Spinks is an excellent boxer but after some of the shots that connected, Taylor never followed like a naturally bigger, stronger man should. At the end of the night there was an obvious star, and as many predicted, he emerged in the co-feature.
Since the desertion of Winky Wright from the middleweight title picture (who moved to light-heavy to challenge Hopkins), Jermain Taylor was waiting for another star to fill the void. And after a performance like the one Pavlik put on, how couldn't he. In other words, a Taylor-Pavlik bout appears like a natural. And besides the attraction the bout would bring if it were made, I believe they both need each other equally. Taylor especially, considering the fact that he hasn't registered a win that wasn't either marred by controversy or unimpressive since Daniel Eduard, which took place more than two years ago. And also, if you're getting the impression lately that Taylor fights to the level of his opposition, Pavlik is nonetheless equipped to dethrone Taylor.
About Kelly's chances in the fight - I believe he certainly can pull it off. If you think of all the vulnerabilities that Cory Spinks didn't expose, which is Taylor's consistent backpedaling, low left hand, and tendency to get off-balance, they don't stack up well against Pavlik's approach to fighting. First of all, Pavlik doesn't know how to take a step back, and the fact that he is bigger and probably stronger than Jermain definitely gives me the impression that Taylor's back will graze the ropes more than a few times. Pavlik best shot also happens to be his right hand, which demolished both Zertuche and Miranda, and the fact that Taylor has recently shown a tendency to drop his left hand gives Pavlik a great target with his Sunday punch.
And although I have no second thoughts on whether or not Pavlik would be coming forward against Taylor, I do believe he has a good jab and the tactical skills necessary to make Taylor miss at times, though probably not consistently. Also Taylor's advantages in size, which he has over many of his former victims, will not be in full effect on a night in which he's facing the taller Pavlik. I am leaning towards Pavlik to walk off with the middleweight title, but regardless, there's one thing to be sure of, it will definitely be no Taylor-Spinks.

Re: Taylor-Pavlik official! Tickets go sale Tomorrow
For Pavlik and Co. this win was more than just about securing a title shot at Taylor - who would decision Spinks later that evening - it was about changing a stereotype/skepticism that exists with white fighters from the Midwest.
This white guy showed he can fight (a lot).
"I think I had to prove it," said the 25-year old native of Youngstown. "And I think that is behind us now. I think the world knows I'm legit." Pavlik would then point out that other world champions that have his complexion, like Wladimir Klitschko, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler. But what makes Pavlik unusual is that he hails from the United States. Which in the 21st century is a rarity.
And those who have handled his career have had to fight the perception that this wasn't just another built-up 'white hope' or a boxer to be used as cannon fodder.
"Well, forget Ohio, if you say you have a white fighter, they immediately say, 'He can't fight'. Doesn't matter if he's from New York City or Philadelphia, wouldn't matter. So you're always going to live with that. But y'know what? A lot of that's true and I'm not going to sit here and argue that it's not- because it is" says Dunkin (who, by the way, is
Caucasian himself), laughing at the subject. But Dunkin, who is one of the best bird-dogs in the industry, knew he signed a blue-chip prospect coming out of the amateurs. "BUT, BUT, a kid like this, he's special and you can see it. We saw it back at 'The Orleans' against Eric Olds (whom he brutally knocked out in 2002). So we knew years ago that the kid had something special."
This win was particular vindication for his promoter Bob Arum, who a few years ago, when he suggested that Pavlik would be an ideal prospect to feature underneath Bernard Hopkins, was basically scoffed at by the HBO brass.
"The topic was what we can do to improve and get people more interested in boxing, a plan," Arum would recall of that meeting at the network’s offices. "I kept hitting on Kelly Pavlik, I said, 'This is the kind of kid that the whole country can get behind' and they were laughing. But I wouldn't say I was laughed out of the office; it was greeted with general hysteria."
Arum adds: "Let's be honest about it, white kids from the Midwest are not received as being really serious class-A fighters. They come in very often as road kill, to build up records and nobody takes them seriously. What I was saying is this kid is different and I couldn't convince anybody because he was white and from the Midwest."
But this snub was actually beneficial in the long-term development of Pavlik as a fledgling prospect. It gave Top Rank and Dunkin the free reign to pick and chose their bouts and to keep him as active as possible. Only chronic hand ailments have slowed his progress in the past.
"Are you kidding!?!? Are you kidding!?!?," said a nearly incredulous Arum, "that was the greatest blessing because we were able to put Kelly in fights which we felt there was a reason for. Either to build up his confidence or to build his ability to face certain fighters. Or to do it the Bruce Trampler (Top Rank's respected matchmaker) way and we didn't have to listen to programmers who said, 'No, put him with this guy, not that guy,' when there was no real reason. I mean, maybe it was better for a rating but certainly not to build a fighter. You have to have complete freedom to build a fighter.
"You saw how, I believe Kelly Pavlik right now is a more complete fighter than Jermain Taylor."
Before coming into this weekend, Pavlik was thought to have been too green and untested to face a fighter of Miranda's ilk. But while he didn't have any real eye-opening victories, he was allowed to sharpen his tools with the likes of Ross Thompson, Dorian Beaupierre, Fulgencio Zuniga, Bronco McKart, Lenord Pierre and Jose Luis Zertuche. Not 'Murderers Row', but an appropriate progression.
"They always said he hadn't fought anybody or anything, but those were all developmental fights that I think make him a better fighter in the long run," said his manager, who's guided a host of world champions. "And I've done that with Diego Corrales, I did it with Danny Romero, I did it with all my guys. And I believe in those fights. And when you're on HBO and you're making $30,000 for a fight, it's hard to tell a kid, 'Look, you're going to take this fight for $3,500, but it's a good learning experience and it keeps you busy and you need to fight eight, ten times a year. Instead of two. You can be better one day.'
"And it's really hard to develop a guy with that kind of money and then wanting to fight on HBO. I think it did help Kelly. And I think it'll help all fighters to be developed the right way."
And now, they have a fighter that is among the most popular in the sport with his two-fisted, all-action style. It’s a style that resonates with every demographic.
"Now hopefully people get past the fact of the white part of it and just see that I'm a great fighter, overall," Pavlik would state. And it seems that he is getting a new found respect from the public. "Actually, last night at the hotel we went on the internet and pulled up some things and there were a lot of comments and it's a shame that it took this fight. I've been out there trying to explain when people would interview me that the guys I fought were rugged fighters - just not Miranda. But Zertuche, Zuniga, these are rugged fighters that are tough."
With this recent conquest, he now puts himself in line for Taylor's WBC title. He's made it clear he wants him next. But the real question is, will he be accommodated by the other side?
"That's a great question," said Pavlik, chuckling. "I guess if the money is right, like he keeps saying. I don't know how much he's going to get but I know I want a good amount. But no, I would love to fight him. He is the world champion, he has the name and that's who I want to fight. But if not, then at least I can sit there and say I made the world champion run up a weight class or he didn't want to take the chance to fight me. So there's always good and bad with that.
"But I think if the money is right and they're offering the right amount of money - which I think is the only way they're going to take it."
Arum was on the phone with the WBC on Monday afternoon.
"Jose Sulaiman stood up like a man. He said, 'Jermain Taylor must fight Kelly Pavlik in his next fight or give up the title.' No ifs, no ands and no buts. He must fight him," stated Arum.
But there seems to be a power struggle going on between Taylor's promoter of record, Lou DiBella, and his advisor, Al Haymon, who many believe really calls the shots. It'll be interesting to see if all the parties involved with Taylor will pull in the same direction. Or engage in a tug-of-war over him.
Arum believes though that the promoter is willing to make the fight.
"Will Lou DiBella? Yeah. I mean, absolutely, that's the fight Lou DiBella wants," said Arum, believing that Taylor's approval rating currently is perhaps lower than the President’s. "Because after that performance by Jermain Taylor, Jermain Taylor needs Kelly Pavlik more than Kelly Pavlik needs Jermain Taylor. Because who's going to take Jermain Taylor seriously against anybody else, other than Kelly Pavlik? Particularly since they've opted not to go to Wales to fight Calzaghe at 168. So what are they going to do? Fight some other jerk?"
Well, they've run out of junior middleweights.
"So the answer is they can't do it if they got a viable fighter."
Arum says that at DiBella's request he has put a hold on the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas for September 22nd. Now, if this fight can be consummated, will it be on HBO or pay-per-view?
"My feeling is that I would not hesitate to do it on pay-per-view because I really believe that Pavlik is really hot," answered Arum. "But, if they came up with the appropriate amount, HBO, even though I can make more doing it on pay-per-view, I would opt to go on HBO. And why? Well, because I'm still a minority partner in this promotion because the other guy is the champion and it's to my benefit to get this fight seen by the most possible people. Because I believe my guy is going to win and therefore I'll more than make up for it in his future fights."
If he would beat Taylor, he could have another marquee attraction from Youngstown, following in the glorious footsteps of Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini, who Arum represented in the '80's.
"I think it's bigger than 'Boom Boom'. I think Ray was still just a lightweight and the middleweight division, you get a great middleweight, a middleweight that is putting people away, a middleweight who fights like the old middleweights did and you got yourself a real commodity," said Arum, who once promoted the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler. "What's messed up the middleweight division are guys who come in and pose, defensive fighters and that type of thing and you don't see the raw brutality that you used to in the middleweight division when you had Marvin, Tommy Hearns, and before that Bennie Briscoe and Rodrigo Valdez and Carlos Monzon. I mean, the middleweights were like killers.
"Kelly Pavlik brings back those old days."
Also the Buckeye state could also be a box-office bonanza for Pavlik and Top Rank.
"I think he's going to want to fight at home," Dunkin would say of his charge. "I don't know if it's the next fight but I think it's just going to be crazy there. And I'm not blowing smoke when I say 15,000. But that's probably what's in store."
"The problem with Youngstown," explained Arum, "is that it has a relatively small arena- and I would be prepared - I want to go to Ohio, to go to Cleveland, Columbus, places like that. Because I believe that in order to build a guy and to build boxing you do as few fights in a casino setting as possible."
And to keep him active.
"Absolutely, positively," crowed Arum, enthusiastically. "Look, I'm an old dog and I'm going with what worked for me in the past. Kelly Pavlik is going to fight at least four times a year and he's the kind of kid that you can pay him multi-millions for one fight and a lot less for another fight just to keep busy. And that's what he's going to do.
"I really believe that if we fight Jermain Taylor, beat Jermain Taylor, we're on our way. Kelly Pavlik will be the number one attraction in boxing."
But for now, Pavlik will get some rest from his eventful weekend before getting back to the gym.
"Depending on when they get the fight scheduled, maybe in a month, if it's quicker than expected, maybe three weeks," he would tell Maxboxing. "But as of now, I'll sit with my daughter, play with her, work around the house, golf. Things like that. Break my golf clubs because I stink."
Wow, this white guy can't golf. How 'bout that?
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY
Did anyone notice the big blood stain left on Arum's blazer as he hugged Pavlik after his win on Saturday night?
"The maid’s going to take it out," said Arum, who didn't seem to mind the blemish. "Maybe I'll keep it for a souvenir."
He looked almost as joyful as he did when Michael Carbajal dramatically stopped Humberto 'Chiquita' Gonzalez in their 1993 classic. But Arum says, "The last fight I was this happy was when George Foreman beat Moorer."
SMOGER
I thought Larry Merchant was a bit unfair to referee Steve Smoger in his handling of the Miranda knockdowns and the subsequent delays after he spit out the mouthpiece.
I agree with Merchant, it's a terrible rule, there should be no timeouts in boxing and it gives an unfair advantage to the fighter who does this. However, that is way the rule is currently implemented and Smoger's job is to play by the rules, not make up his own as he goes along.
But they do need to change the rule, in my opinion, so that when this happens, a fighter must go the rest of the round without his gumshield and the point is taken away after the round.
But Merchant's post-fight interview with Taylor is exactly why he shouldn't be going anywhere but to his next fight for HBO.
SUPER GHOST
I'm sure by now everyone read the press release where Miranda would talk of his problems getting down to 160 and how he will be moving up to super middleweight. I think those reasons are very valid and 'Pantera' should still be a fan-favorite because of his fun style and willingness to take on all-comers.
However, it has to be mentioned that making the middleweight limit is no picnic for Pavlik, who went through the usual gamut in cutting weight during the final days in Memphis prior to the weigh-in. I think one of the reasons he doesn't use his legs to box from the outside is that making 160 takes out some of the vitality and stoutness in his legs. So he simply stays inside a bit more and bangs it out.
I think his best days are at super middleweight, when he can really fill out his tall frame and get his legs back fully. Pavlik, in my opinion, will be a fighter that will carry his punching power up in the future.
BUZZKILL
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago after the postponement of the May 26th 'Boxing After Dark' telecast in Anaheim because of the pullout of Joan Guzman that the only Dominican that folks around that area would come to see is the Texas Rangers’ Sammy Sosa.
It was pointed out to me by reader Juan Carlos that the Angels themselves have two Dominican standouts in Vlad Guerrero and Bartolo Colon.
Point taken.

PAVLIK VS. TAYLOR SUPER BOUT SET FOR END OF SEPTEMBER
UNDISPUTED AND UNDEFEATED WORLD MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION JERMAIN “BAD INTENTIONS” TAYLOR TO DEFEND TITLE AGAINST UNBEATEN NO. 1 CONTENDER KELLY PAVLIK ON SAT., SEPT. 29, AT BOARDWALK HALL IN ATLANTIC CITY
***DiBella Entertainment to present boxing extravaganza; Title Bout to Be Televised on HBO Sports World Championship Boxing***
New York, July 24—Undisputed and Undefeated World Middleweight Champion Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor will make the fifth defense of his two-year title reign when he faces the stiff test of number 1 contender (WBC, WBO) Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik on Saturday night, September 29, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, it was announced today by Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment.
“Taylor/Pavlik is a classic middleweight showdown, a true throwback fight,” said DiBella. “The tickets are reasonably priced and are already in high demand with a significant casino presale. Any fight fan wanting to see this historic battle should act fast and purchase their tickets as soon as possible.”
“This is going to be a terrific fight, something that boxing really needs. The eyes of the sporting world will be watching these two great fighters in Atlantic City on Sept. 29,” said Bob Arum, CEO, Top Rank.
Taylor, the favorite son of Arkansas , has successfully defended his middleweight crown against legendary Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Kassim Ouma, and Cory Spinks since first taking the title from Hopkins in 2005.
HBO Sports World Championship Boxing will televise the world championship bout live at 10:15 p.m. ET/ 7:15 p.m. PT.
Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KO’s) has yet to taste defeat since turning professional in 2000. Pavlik, likewise undefeated, gets his first chance at a championship on the heels of a spectacular knockout victory over Edison Miranda. No. 1 rated by both the WBC and WBO, Youngstown , Ohio ’s undefeated Pavlik is a bona fide knockout artist, registering 28 KO’s in 31 career triumphs as a professional.
Taylor first captured the undisputed middleweight championship against the legendary Bernard Hopkins on July 17, 2005 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas , NV , with a 12 round split decision triumph, and defended the title for the first time against Hopkins on December 3, 2005 at Mandalay Bay in Vegas with a unanimous decision victory. Taylor has since defended his title twice in 2006, first in Memphis in a controversial draw against Winky Wright on June 9, and last December 9 defeating former champion Kassim Ouma in Little Rock. Cory Spinks was next on the Taylor checklist, and Jermain was up to the challenge once again with a unanimous decision triumph in Memphis on May 19.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll
This poll hits it right on the money either you think tayor by decision or pavlik by K.O. and i think we're right but one is gonna happen and i still have to lean towards taylor going back to what got him the belt in the first place...... a ridiculously good jab, out boxing pavlik, and not just wailing away with the right instead setting the right up well and making it more effective then we've seen recently....

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll
Taylor will have to step up his game to win this one ,and that might niot be enough. I never saw Jermain fight until B-Hop so other than the 2 B-hop fights I have not been impressed. I have seen Kelly fight twice now and have been very impressed both times.
-
Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll
the few people who never saw taylor fight before b-hop would be correct in thinking pavlik would kill taylor. Pavlik is a pretty impressive fighter given the limited quality of the opponets he faced so far. Even some who have seen taylor since the begging pick pavlik to win and i can see that as well, i just have a feeling that old taylor would be to much for pavlik. But if he comes out as the taylor you've seen and the one we've all had to sit through lately he'll get blown up real quick.

The boxers are saving most of the jabs for the ring.
Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik held a joint news conference Tuesday at the Tavern on the Green restaurant in New York City’s Central Park. It was the first time the two have been together in public since they exchanged barbs through the media, but both remained calm at a low-key event that served as the formal announcement of the boxers’ Sept. 29 middleweight title fight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N. J.
“I give him respect. He is the No. 1 contender. He has proven to be a great fighter, and I respect him for that,” Taylor said. “I expect him to come forward and try to overpower me. He will not run; he is not a southpaw, he is coming to fight. I know he hits hard, and I am going to be aggressive.
“ I finally got a man that is not a left-hander, and I am excited about that. I’m a fighter, and I fight until the end of the fight. I will not be defeated.”
Officials said 1, 500 tickets were sold before the fight was formally announced, and the entire floor is sold out.
Taylor (27-0-1, 17 knockouts ) and Pavlik (31-0, 28 KOs ) are universally recognized as the two top middleweights in the world.
“This fight reminds us of the 1980 s, when we had all of those great middleweight championship fights,” said Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank and Pavlik’s promoter. “This is a great, competitive fight between the best two middleweights in the world.
“ This fight is what boxing deserves, and this is what boxing will get on Sept. 29.”
Emanuel Steward, who again will be Taylor’s lead trainer, said the team will train in the Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. But even in that remote location, designed to keep Taylor isolated and focused on training camp, Steward said they won’t be able to avoid the prefight buildup that is sure to be significant for one of the most anticipated fights of 2007.
“These are the two middleweights that everyone talks about,” Steward said. “This is the fight that people are talking about. Jermain Taylor has the faster hand speed and better coordination, and Kelly is going to be right there the whole time — right in front of him.
“ I predict a knockout. This fight will not go six rounds.”
After Steward spoke, Pavlik approached the microphone and threw out the first hint of aggression at the news conference.
“Emanuel, I can’t get mad at your prediction. You’re supposed to say that,” Pavlik said. “I will take no chances. There is no playing around in this fight. If he wants to come to fight, that is better for me. This is a great fight for boxing. I predict a win. I predict pain.”
Taylor said he wasn’t wincing at the thought.
“All of the talk motivates me,” Taylor said. “It motivates me when I get up early in the morning to run. That’s all I think about. I am going to train for 12 rounds, and I am going to win this fight. When all is said and done, I am going to win. Then after I whip this boy, we’ll see what happens.”

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll ( New Vid On Page 10)
I just don't see any other way than a Pavlik win. Jermanie has too many controversal wins under his belt. I dont think he will be able to handle a guy who goes through sparring partners like a baby goes through diapers.
-
Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll ( New Vid On Page 10)
Taylor's no slouch. He might not have looked outstanding lately, but he's been in with top quality opposition, consistently, since the first Hopkins fight. I still hope Pavlik beats him, though - I like his attitude. I say this one turns out to be more exciting than the Spinks snoozer.
-
Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll ( New Vid On Page 10)
Oh it won't be a snoozefest, that's for sure. Kelly will make Jermaine fight and I think Taylor will be more than up for it. I think conditioning will be the main factor in this fight, and whoever can still be strong in the late rounds will pull out the victory. I can't wait!! Win or lose, either fighter will come out a different fighter after this war. Great, great fights this year.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll ( New Vid On Page 10)
Thought id revive this thread cuz after rewatching their most recent fights , I am now convinced that Pavlik will beat Taylor whether it be on points or by stoppage .
I saw hoe Taylor doesnt like getting involved even if its just flicking jabs coming his way . I also saw how Kelly is prepared to walk through walls to get his power shots off . If Mirandas power landing full force doesnt discourage him then I cant see how Taylor will . It will be a good mix of styles and we will see just how good both men are. In a battle of who wants it more though you have gotta back Kelly
Taylor does stand a chance as he is more talented but he is going to have to box at pace for 12 rounds against a big guy throwing big punches and I dont think he is up to it . An old Hopkins and a defensive light middle in Wright gave him all the trouble he could handle . Ouma walked him down and Spinks IMO skolled him . Here he meets a full blown middle and he is gouna have a massive struggle to keep Pvlik off . He may see out 12 rounds but theres only guna be 1 winner . . . . Kelly Pavlik.

I agree 100%, Kelly by UD or maybe a late stoppage.

CC at ya. Couldn't agree more. Kelly is a animal. He has the same drive as hagler with hearns's fists. Hell he may hit harder than hearns. All I know is I was at the bar and we were talkin about him and how great he is for the community and how much more hope he has given to such a beaten hard as steel city. People around here hold him very high. Black , White whatever. He is a great person and a true force to be reckoned with here. I dint see how Taylor is going to fight this guy. Maybe in the middle of the ring but then I see Jermaine runnin from him allot and that doesn't win points. I really do not see this going to the cards at all. Kelly has only been to the cards three times and that was in short round bouts. I also believe that he could move up to 168 and still be a top contender and still might have a stronger punch and chin than Mikkel Kessler. This kid is a bright young star and will be a dominate force for years to come.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll ( New Vid On Page 10)
I really think Jermaine might keep away and use the ring for the better part of the fight; try to make Pavlik run himself out and look to win the last rounds decisively. He may try and go to war with Kelly, who knows, but I see him trying to win using the ring and hoping conditioning comes into play down the stretch, coming on strong at Kelly in the last 3 or 4 rounds, if Pavlik doesn't k.o. him 1st. FOTY possibly; hopefully.

Yeah I havent decided whether im going with a points win or late stoppage yet . We'll see fight week but the judges wont be able to save Taylor this time. It wont be close. Im sure it will be a clear victory this time for the challenger and if they give it to the champion again , there will be uproar .

Yeah I was wondering what would happen if Pavlik met Kessler but nobody else seems to be talking about that one yet . Who knows if they win their next fighst that one could become a natural . It may be the fight everyone is talking about or it could be Joe vs Taylor .
The thing that impressed me most about Kelly is that he isnt afriad to get invloved and he fights his fight regardless . Taylor wasnt even prepared to take chances vs Spinks. Kessler is a little more defensive than Pavlik and doesnt go for it as much but I like both guys and think they are both soon to be top 10 p4p fighters . Kelly can avoid punches if he chooses to as they call him the ghost but vs Miranda he had no intention of playing it safe and nuff props go out to him for doing that .

*Actually I'm not sure ecause I haven't seen enough of them, but from what I've seen of both of them Taylor wins this fight comfortably.

HBO was in town several days for a one-hour special it will air before the Sept. 29 fight.
By JOE SCALZO
VINDICATOR SPORTS STAFF
Last Thursday, Kelly Pavlik spent seven hours going through brutal training to prepare himself for his upcoming championship fight, then immediately left the gym for a three-hour autograph signing session at the Canfield Fair.
That's when his day got tough.
"I can't eat out there," said Pavlik, whose training diet doesn't include Elephant Ears, stromboli or deep fried Snickers. "I wanted to. It smelled really good."
After knocking out Edison Miranda in May, Pavlik spent much of June and July on the golf course (including the, ahem, 19th hole) in between a litany of public appearances. He also spent time with his family, including his 1-year-old daughter, as his managers solidified plans for a WBC middleweight title fight with Jermain Taylor, which will be held Sept. 29 in Atlantic City.
Training smooth
Last month, he started training again. And, according to Pavlik and his trainer Jack Loew, things are going very well.
"Extremely well," said Loew. "We're actually a little ahead of schedule."
Added Pavlik, "I didn't think I could be in better shape than I was for my last fight, but I am. It's unbelievable.
"It's pretty tiring. I'm training my [rear end] off."
Pavlik and Loew have made two changes since the spring. One, he began working out at a new gym with Paul "Dunner" Dunleavy, an well-known personal trainer in the Valley. (If you've ever run at an area race and seen a guy running with part of a wooden cross across his back, that's Dunner.)
Two, Loew has brought in different sparring partners than the last few fighters, looking for taller, more athletic "boxers" than straight-ahead sluggers. Taylor is known for being an excellent technician and a good defensive boxer.
Emphasis changed
"The last four guys we fought were all bangers who would stay in front of us," said Loew, who brought in New Jersey native Richard Pierson and Tyrone Watson of Reading, Pa., and has plans to bring in others. "Those two kids are very fast, athletic-type boxers.
"That's what we need."
Pavlik has done more sparring than strength work, working on his hand speed and his defense. Although some observers question whether Pavlik has good boxing skills — Pavlik is better known for being one of the most powerful punchers in the sport — Loew insists his fighter is more than just a slugger.
"He's actually a great boxer," said Loew. "The problem is, all the way up Kelly knocked so many people out so early, we didn't get a chance to show it."
It took a few sessions for Pavlik to get used to the different sparring style but he's grown more comfortable.
"Everything's coming back to me," said Pavlik. "It just took a little time."
HBO films segment
Pavlik will continue training in Youngstown right up until the week of the fight. HBO, which will televise this month's fight, has been in town several days for an one-hour special it will air before the fight.
Pavlik has cut back on personal appearances in recent weeks — he finally got back on the golf course last week but had to cut his round short after five holes — and has put all his energy into preparation.
"There's no breaks," he said. "Even when I'm done boxing and training, I'll come home and my dad and my family and friends will call or talk about the fight.
"The first thing I think about every day is the fight."
Pavlik has had one minor distraction. His lawyers recently filed a lawsuit against one of his former managers, Anthony Scandy, over a three-year contract that expired in May, a move that drew headlines.
Claim
Scandy insists the contract should be extended due to a hand injury Pavlik suffered midway through the deal. Pavlik's people insist there was no injury.
Pavlik has declined comment for the most part, but when asked about it late last week, he said, "It's not a surprise. I haven't had one dispute with a promoter or an agent in my career and now I have a big fight coming up and all of a sudden there's a controversy coming up."
Pavlik is set to make $1 million for this month's fight. If the contract were extended, he would owe Scandy as much as 13 percent of the purse.
"It's frustrating," said Pavlik, "The contract has been over for four months but it comes up now.
"But this happens to a lot of fighters. I'm the one sweating, bleeding, training and starving myself but everyone wants a part of the deal."
