Berto - Rodriguez
Round 2: Glad to see Berto again. He's working with that quick jab here in the early going, pressing forward on Rodriguez and they are at a fairly close distance. Berto scores with a good overhand right that really hurts Rodriguez. Rodriguez tries to hold on, Berto trying to sharp shoot. Berto makes some space and then scores with a lead left hook that once again hurts Rodriguez. Berto really scoring with the right hand, Rodriguez has no answer thus far. Rodriguez works off the ropes with a right hand of his own that landed but it's right back to attack for Berto as he continues with the jab and right hand. The speed on Berto is just amazing.
Round 3: Berto now opening up while Rodriguez tries to plow forward. Rodriguez is the taller guy, and now he's trying to come forward with his height. To his credit he has Berto on the ropes but isn't landing much. Rodriguez has one of the more hilarious hair dos I've ever seen. Berto has one of the fastest jabs I've ever seen, but isn't using it much and is giving away distance. He's working on the inside using a lot of uppercuts. Rodriguez has his hands down leaning on Berto doing literally noothing. They get broken up and Berto goes to work with a left uppercut followed by a chopping right hand. Berto's hand speed is dazzling, but doesn't use it effectively all that often.
I think Berto's power is over rated...much better handspeed than one punch power. He poses too much...........They are doing "open scoring" for this one, what a waiste of time
Round 4: Rodriguez pushing a lazy jab early, one of them gets answered over the top with a big right hand. Rodriguez puts it back on the inside where the punching is all Berto, ripping to the body with hooks and then going back outside and working with straight punches. Fast hands and they always work in combination for Berto, lots and lots of combinations. Rodriguez trying to stick a jab to the chest now, lands a couple and goes over the top with a right right hand that lands. Berto though just has to much for him it seems and is landing pretty much at will with as many punches as he wants. Hard to call them because they come so fast.
Couldn't they find a live opponent for Berto:confused:
Round 5: Berto comes out with a stiff jab, puts a right hand on top of it. Rodriguez really just has to keep this going and try to slow Berto down or at least make him work less. Rodriguez moving back a bit now after these flurries from Berto. Not only is he fast but he's accurate is Berto. Rodriguez isn't going inside, he's staying outside as the taller guy. Now he eats a right hand and now he goes inside. Berto seems comfortable on the ropes and again is the one with the better of these exchanges. Berto lands a jarring uppercut at the bell. This is a one sided affair early but Rodriguez is still in there and hasn't appeared to hurt yet.
Got to give credit to Rodriguez he is game..
Dont see much of a competition in this though...
outmatched game fighter taking a beating...not very entertaining
For some reason these two posts duplicated each other so I need to fill this with something.
What can I say?
Ah yes.
Beware of the turncoat, leftylee.
I've stopped watching now as Berto just plain bores me.
I'm watching the Blinky Eyed kids latest videos instead.
On the one hand he annoys me, on the other I think he has the perfect hobbit features to be in my clan.
OK well I'm off to Applebees then looks like I can't avoid it sorry all but I really doubt the tide turns in this Berto bout.
Nice uppercut drops Fonzie Rodriquez
Does Rodriguez ride the short bus? Dude gets a goofy smile on his face after he gets knocked around. Reminds me of that guy in Platoon that Bunny beat silly;D
Berto drops Rodriquez again on ropes, hits him when he was down.Fonzie up and Lawrence "your winning the fight" cole stops It........Berto is a studied work in progress, but why in the world do alot of up & coming prospects think they are the next pin point Reincarnation of Mayweather....less sizzle, more steak!
This was very sad 'Championship" match making....They have become so diluted it is sad.
I'm not that impressed with Berto at all. DaBully needs to quit having him fight bums!!
The WBC should have made Berto fight a decent fighter for that belt. :furious2:
Berto does not call anyone out....Good prospect but he knows the real deal with the top teir guys.....not ready from what Ive seen,Not fighting the test's that will get him ready for them Imo will be fun to watch though
Sorry to interrupt the Berto talk, but AA just did another interview in german tv...And admitted that he went into the fight with a rib injuryhe got in sparring...Miranda did hit him once there and Abraham said he was hurt a bit then...tough guy...
An a semi related note, Kellerman was talking about Arreolas and said something about sleep paralysis and how it happens to him once a year.
I had no idea what it was and googled it, turns out I had sleep paralysis once. It was last summer and I was convinced there was a ghost or evil spirit next to me and I literally couldnt move, like I was paralyzed with fear.
I was freaked out by it and still remember it well.
Turns out there is a logical explanation for it. Though according to wikipedia most cultures around the world do believe it has to do with a ghost or evil spirit.
Arthur Abraham: "I am a true champion. And a true champion has confidence. So I was here to defend the title here. There is no difference (from the last fight). Every ring is the same. In this fight, I was more cautious. The last time, I didn't pay as much attention to that. I tired him out then knocked him down.....I want to thank America for this big chance. Thank you, America. I wish for a chance to fight Oscar De La Hoya and a chance to fight Kelly Pavlik. I like America. The American people are very nice people and I'll come again.
Edison Miranda: He prepared very well. I have no quarrels tonight. He was prepared and he was very strong. I don't know what happened. I was 100% coming into this fight. I don't know. He was too strong today. He's a great champion."
I think Abraham is too strong for Dela Hoya...
.
Berto far from sucks, he is a very good prospect with maybe the fastest hands I ever seen. Matched pretty poor tonight but they have to realize that anyone who is that slow and fights from the outside with that low output has absolutely no chance against Berto. So yeah it was a bad match up. But Berto doesn't suck and he's not boring.
Just got back from the fight. Whole crowd was stunned when Miranda first got decked. Props to Abraham though because Miranda was sharp and on his game, just got ktfo!
abraham - de la hoya doesn't seem like it would happen.. no way does Oscar take this fight against a hard hitter like AA, when he could fight a smaller Cotto and make more money on it..
pavlik/AA would be great though..
how do you guys feel about Pascal? AA/Pascal.. i know Pascal didn't have a great fight his last time out, but he has looked good int he past..
Didn't get to see the fight... :(
Arthur looks in tremendous shape though in those shots.... He obviously came in 110% for the fight...
I had to choose between HBO and Showtime, so I decided to go with the Abraham-Miranda fight in Showtime. I'm glad I did. First, I was impressed with Raul Marquez's guts and courage in the ring, and how he expresses himself after the fight. Classy guy. As for the main event, I was thoroughly impressed by Abraham, and how easily he dispatched Miranda. But somehow, I don't think he'd beat Pavlik. It'd be a great fight, tho.
