All time, it's got to include (in no particular order)
Sonny Liston
Harry Greb
Mike Tyson
Marvin Hagler
James J Jeffries
Dwight Qawi
Jack Dempsey
George Foreman
But my all time favourite wild man and general uncontrollable hardcase:
Stanley Ketchell
What no Roberto Duran?

Shit, I can't believe I forgot Cholo .......... yeah he'd definitely be in there.
Good call!

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
To be honest any pro boxer would be good to have in your corner. I work with an old welterweight called Steve Hogg he only ever won 3 but trust me he's in his 40s now but I'd pretty much put him against anyone on a street.
Steve Hogg

With respect, many boxers stay away from street fighters. They (SF's) fight differently and under a different mind set. They do things that boxers have never been trained to do--like grab or kick your cojones or rabbit punch or elbow you in the nose or head butt you intentionally. The boxer that backs one up better know what he is in for if the street fighter is expperienced, Point: having a boxer back you up in an alley is not a slam dunk for protection--unless it is the Beast from The East who would scare the crap out of any one.

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Great idea for a thread..
I would go with James Toney for sure.
How about Andre Berto's dad. I would say one look at him and you wouldn't have to fight at all. LOL

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Ricardo Mayorga, Young George Foreman, Young Tyson, Tex Cobbs(Need someone that can take a bat to the cheek and still keep scraping) and Ike Ibeabuchi

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Larry Holmes he has a MMA backgroud i believe, and he looked pretty useful jumping over a car and drop kicking Trevor Berbick in a street fight.
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
I don't think Larry Holmes had a MMA background? I recall that he went pro quite young and was Ali's sparring partner for a while ....... he did look good drop-kicking Berbick, but I didn;t think MMA even existed back then in the West?

Well I've a read about a young George Foreman, and I mean young as in age 13 beating up trained streetfighters for money. Thats a full grown man getting battered off a child basically. Pro boxers are a different breed trust me!

No argument on Foreman--young or old. :foruml10gc5:

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Not to beat a dead horse, but Urango may have earned his place in the alley. His sweeping hooks would take out 3 or 4 muggers at a time.

You might be thinking of Tex Cobb who was a kick boxer before and during his boxing career.

I'm pretty sure this is a desperate cry for help. Spicoli is about to go shoot up the local 7-11 and he hopes someone will see through him and convince him to stop. I say give in to those urges Spicoli, kill some motherfuckers.

David Haye
Ricardo Mayorga

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
I'll go with Kirkland and his female trainer. Just looking at them would instill fear in whoever I have a beef with.
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Joshua Clottey and Paul Williams
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
For me its my old buddy.......
Randall Tex Cobb
Bernard Hopkins
Tony Margarito
I guarantee safety with those 3 with me

Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
James Toney for me. I actually witnessed him beating some guy up at Briarwood mall in Ann Arbor.
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
A couple of guys already said him, but David Tua would go apeshit on some people and it would be over in less than a minute when he starts throwing that left hook and laying people out
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Kabary Salem-maybe the dirtiest I have ever seen.
-
Re: Which Current Fighter Would You Want Backing You Up in a Street Fight?
Vitali Klishko would definitely and by far be my first choice: Titan power, Stainless jaw, ludicrous reach and the size that would scare anybody.
If we could vote for MMA fighters too, I would Add Fedor Emilianenko to the bunch; Steel jaw, mean power, full submission arsenal and always cold as a block of nice no matter what happens.
