I think the Pens match up well against both teams. Boston has a deep, dynamic forward core and the superior defense, but even though he's had a great season I'm not 100% sold on Thomas in goal. The only advantage I'd give Carolina is in net, but I think the Pens can perforate Ward. If I'm you, I'm cheering for the 'Canes.
Boston is my 2nd favorite team, so I'm hoping they can win the cup now that the Canucks are dead.

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Well we pushed a game 7.
I'm happy but wow! does the "d" suck.
We almost blew it there at the end.
Some brilliant saves which had me jumping everytime.
Was getting pissed because the Ducks totally were defending the 2-0 lead in the 3rd and I can somewhat understand but I hate when teams do that in sports.
Really good game, I just hope the Ducks can somehow regroup and play a good game.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Sorry to hear about your Ducks Mick. They fought the good fight tho, and almost pulled it off.
Well, the semis are all set. The Pens and Carolina series is going to be a good one for our house. I go for the Pens, becuz they aren't Toronto and are my team. Crosby is clearly awesome and showing his mettal as a true superstar by elevating his game post season. If Malkin decides to come to work, it could be interesting. The goaltending has been solid also.
My dad is going for Carolina becuz Paul Maurice and Ron Francis are locals and are friends of his and says I should too. Wut? As if..
Red Wings and Hawks. I'd just like to see the Wings lose. They never seem to do enough of that. I don't hate them or anything, but just gettin tired of seeing them win all the damn time. Plus the finals would be an easier place for my Pens without the Red Wings, should they make it.
So in short, Go Pens! Fuck all the rest.
That's it. Game on.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Canucks and Bruins are done. Go Wings. I guess.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
That was one of the MOST edge of your seat game I've seen in while.
Shit! we almost pulled it off.
The Ducks were good but the injuries def. played a toll and we were physically done.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
I dont' usually follow hockey but one of my buddies is a big Pens fan so he had me watching the Capitals vs Pens series. I was pretty impressed. Looks like the Pens will play the Canes now.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
The Pens are going to roll the Canes. At least half of my SCF prediction will come to pass, though it's small consolation. :p

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
After the first games of the semi-finals, Conference Championships, it now stands at:
Pens 1-0 With a 3-2 win over Carolina. Fleury played an amazing game coming up huge on numerous occasions to secure the opening win. Crosby is still on top of his game, but the team will need to work on giving up the puck and stupid mistakes if they want this drive to be successful. Bit boring to watch after the Caps series, but again, it is only game 1.
Det 1-0 With a 5-2 opening win over the Hawks. Detroit looks strong and should easily be favored in not only this series, but to take it all. This is the playoffs tho, so who knows, anything can happen.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
I was watching the Pens religiously until I signed up for a class to learn to hablo some espanol that meets M-W-Th nights, so I havent seen a game for two weeks or so.
Even though the Capitals lost, Ovechkin is awesome and am glad that the pens-capitals series got me to see him in action, what an exciting player to watch.
Apparently the penguins won tonite as well but I was busy estudie espanol en mi clase.

I'm still not sold on Fleury (maybe it's his dirty-frenchman style facial hair, I dunno), but he's slowly winning me over. He reminds me a bit of Grant Fuhr in that his numbers may not be spectacular and he may let in some bad goals, but when the game is on the line he makes the save the needs to be made.

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
WTF guys ???
I go away for a weekend and you turds can't keep up with all things NHL?
I'll keep it short. PENS - steamrolling!
That is all. :)

The Canucks loss has me feeling apathetic regarding hockey. Go Wings. I want to see a rematch. I wonder if Hossa will sign with the Pens if they win this time.

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
The Pens are through to the finals after sweeping Lyle's beloved Hurricanes. I hope Detroit smokes them again in the rematch.

I have to say, if the Pens can keep up the tempo and work together as a team, as they are...they have a real shot at taking the wings down. They are underdogs, no question, but are firing on all cylinders. Should be a great final!
Go PENS! :)
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
For some reason, CFH isn't keeping this thread updated. :headscratch:
Oh well, I suppose I must then.
The series is currently 2-1 in favor of the Red Wings, with the PENS pulling out a 4-2 win 2 nights ago. Game is about to start here in a few minutes. This is an absolute must win game for Pittsburg in this best of 7 finals. Detroit is just too strong of a team for me to see them making a comeback after a loss tonite. So it is pretty much all on the line I believe.
Go PENS! :)

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
What Theeee Fuck is Bill Geurin doing? Bench that stupid old fart! Standing in front of his own net screening his own goalie, like he's supposed to be doing at the other end? Gotfukkindammit.
Det 2 Pens 1 after the Pens opened the scoring...
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
In spite of El fugtard, and a couple of back to back penalties (questionable) to the PENS, 2 goals includng one short-handed!
Pens 3 Wings 2 - 9 mins remaining in 2nd.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
End of 2nd period.
Pens 4 Wings 2.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Yay! :)
Pens hold on to their lead and series now all tied up at 2-2.
Hope is alive...
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Datsyuk will start the next game in Detroit.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Looks like it's been a good series. I haven't been able to watch any of it so far, but I thought at the outset that Pits would win this time around though I loathe them (I have since the Lemeaux - Jagr days) and I am quite fond of Det.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
I laugh every time Mike Babcock speaks ;D Great accent. CFH and Youngblood, do you sound like that when you talk?
I like hockey actually, I just never get around to watching it.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
I don't watch a whole lot of hockey but this year my buddies a huge Pens fan so I have been following them in the playoffs.
Watched game 4 last night. All I have to say is the 2nd period was one of the best periods of hockey I have ever seen.
The Pens might just have the Momentum to go into Detroit and steal one there.

I imagine Youngblood and I would sound fairly different considering we live about 2,000 miles from each other.
I don't think I have much of a Canadian accent, but I've been told I have a slight one.

I've been told I sound like a Yooper. WTF? :shakehead:
A yooper? Like I even make fun of how those dorks sound. It is the goofy, almost Fargo-ish tone of speech of the people of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A lot like the movie Fargo..."Ohhh ya, eh...ya see, Mike he's a good guy yaaa, he is. You be careful eh bout his brother, real trouble, dontcha know, yaaa."
So yea, first time I heard them I laughed so god damn hard, whilst jumping about pointing and laughing at the circus freaks they are, only to have all sorts of people I talk to now who live any where else, giggle and say, "You're a yooper aren't you?"
Yaaa, fell Fuk you too OumaFag, yaaaa, don't even know where ya from ehh, but 4 sure you sound lika goofball too, dontcha know.

Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Oh, and if you wonder what CFH sounds like, I found this clip of him, and his, ummm...room mate. You guess which one he is.

Was an amazing period of hockey, for sure Ben. Especially as a Pens fan. Basically all the stars aligned, the puck bounced right, and they did that they had to, to make this a contest.
Going to be tough in Detroit. But I am not without hope now...

I'm sure Youngblood would've kicked my ass by now if that was the case.

If the Pens win tomorrow night they should have it in the bag. GO DETROIT! Fucking Hossa hasn't shown up these playoffs at all but Det. should have Datsuyk (sp?) back for game 5.

It could be all over for the Pens tonight. However, I think they win it and send the series back to Detroit for game 7.

I can barely look at a tv and sports channel without throwing it out the window, after that embarassment otherwise known as game 5. But I'll be tuned in...

Detroit is a great team and I think they're in the Penguins' heads at this point. If it had been the Blackhawks (or even the Canucks or Ducks) coming out of the West, I think Pitts would've been much more confident. However, I felt it was a very close series to call at the outset and I thought the Pens would pull it out in 6 or 7 and I still think they can.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Welp. Osgoode is freakin hot in net, or this game would be nearly over by now. 1-0 Pens still in the 2nd period...
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Datsyuk hits the goddamn post.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
OMFG I can barely watch. 9 mins left, 2-1 Pens w/Detroit on the power play.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
WTFFFF!!!
They kill the penalty and that stupid old fuker Guerin pulls another penalty. Maybe even a dbl? I swear, if this game and series ends because of it, and Bill Geurin dies a mysterious death, you could safely call me a suspect.
-
Re: The NHL Playoff Thread
Wowee! What a game.
Final score, Pens 2 - Wings 1.
Game 7 it is then.
Now, truly anything can happen. I'm a believer. :)
