Hatton fought an atrocious fight. I have no idea what was going through his mind. He didn't seem to have a gameplan whatsoever, and his chin has seemingly deserted him. :-\
He had no idea how to deal with punches thrown in bunches besides initiating the clinch. The concept of having a guard for self protection was seemingly not there. He was almost inviting himself to be sparked out.
I'm still having issues coming to terms with what happened exactly. Manny was great, but I'm struggling to believe that was really Ricky Hatton out there. Mindblowing. :o
Haha your havin the same problems as me i see on tryin to get your replies loaded.
Hatton DEFINATLY had the power to really hurt Pacman and he did land a couple, if only hed of moved like you say instead of being so dam easy to hit we would of had a proper fight.
But sayin that i had no idea Pacquiao could hit that hard, i knew hed catch Hatton plenty but i just didnt think hed make is so easy for him and i didnt think hed smash Hatton in so much so early.
Hatton would have never been able to close the gap if he tried to come in at an angle, he didn't commit to coming in like he used to and Pacquiao was able to catch him coming in, even if he did , Pacquiao is skilled enough now to almost fully nullify any offensive Hatton could produce.
He was totally outclassed, and only Marquez and Mayweather IMO stand a chance agianst Manny. Cotto is too slow, Mosley isn't good enough with distance against anyone with talent.
Im strugglin too, after a fight what ever the result i accept it for what it is, i dont want to take anything away from Pacquiao at all cuz he is what he is and did what he and i dont wana sound like theres excuses comin but i just dont know what the hell happened, though im sure i have more of an idea than Hatton does right now.
Pacman is by far the best boxer Hattons faced, my question is this, Was that really the best Hatton could of done against him?
It's a strange one, isn't it?
I don't want to discredit Manny because he couldn't be expected to do any more than what he did. But questions have to be asked of Hatton. Hatton has always been so resiliant and even in defeat caused problems for his opponent. And yet here he is being blown away in two when lesser fighters have lasted far longer against Manny.
Manny has no doubt improved a great deal, but I would never expect Hatton to be a fighter you can just go in there and blast out without even working up a sweat. It peculiar. We could all see that Hatton was doing things wrong and we are just armchair pundits....how was Hatton not prepared to face a fighter who throws in flurries? He didn't use any of the basics and left his chin open repeatedly.
It's almost as though Ricky had lost his mind. I'm sure we will hear things in due course, but that wasn't any Ricky Hatton that I have ever seen before. And like I say, I don't want to take credit away from Manny, because just maybe he is that good. :-\

Pacman destroyed him
I just hope Hatton is OK...
It's all about recovering now and just taking a long vacation with his son and girl.
Cheers for the link Smashup. My first look with English commentary.
I will say it again. WTF was Ricky doing out there? Manny looked great but Hatton played right into his hands there. Very, very frustrating. Stopped in 2...still in shock...
Well IMO even if hatton fought the fight we all thought would be best against a guy like pacman, it was going to be an up hill battle. You gotta remember that in boxing a ko loss can wreck your chin...it does happen and maybe thats the case here. Maybe the floyd loss gave hatton doubt in his chin or maybe it has weakened him, sounds stupid but it happens in these sports. Hatton really did his best to help manny in this fight, heres my chin..take a shot. Body shots were key to victory here and i really believe that what hatton needed to do was smother him. Hattons power is on the inside but from a distance hes very open. Pacmans power is mostly on the outside, dont get me wrong..he can fight inside but his real knock out power comes from full extension of that straight left and left hook..its not a confined left hook he throws, he does need room. And all hatton did was clinch on the inside. But you know this happens, chances are pacman would of hit him with those punches sooner or later no matter what, it just happened sooner in this case.
Just finished watching fight online and it was just what I thought it would be. Ricky charging in with his hands down recklessly and Pac, boxing him and landing hooks and straight lefts. So, can all the Hatton-ites please shut the hell up about him!!! Just think of it this way, he will save a lot of people airfare and hotel $$$ if he just fades away.
A boxer will always beat a fighter. Now let's get two fighters together, so we can see some real artists at their craft. Floyd, are you there?
I,ve always had Pac to win BUT I still underestimated him by a long shot. 7 rounds off to be exact.
I over estimated Ricky as well by looking to far into his past and hoping he could bring the whole lot to the table today.
That said Ricky could of brought the lot and I think he still would of got caught early and still it would be an early night
He got dropped by both of Mannys hands in two different situations with two different shots that says it all, Manny is beyond great.
Call me crazy I would like see Pac /Mosley.
Knockout of the Year. Hatton was out before he hit the canvas. I don't think many Hatton fans are gonna be so anxious to fly overseas if he keeps getting his ass kicked like that. He really had no head movement and Pac was just going to town.
I honestly think Hatton thought he could take Pac's power, and wanted to just get in there and put some hurt on him early.. Even when he'd been caught with some really sharp shots early, he didn't bide any time at all.. Just kept rushing in and was desperate to land at least one punch on Pac that was going to make him think.. But it was just a total destruction.. It was lucky to last even the first round...
It's clear Pac's speed carried a tonne of power as well, and i'm not sure how many guys at 140 or even 147 are going to be able to handle his speed... He slips incredibly well also even on attack.. One of the most dangerous guys at any weight he can make now.. simple as that..
That reminded me abit of when Honeyghan got blown away by Mark Breland in two rounds. Out of the ring lifestyle caught up with him - though Honeyghan was more of a party animal that Ricky.
PacMan couldn't miss with the right hand but finished with the left. Floyd Snr obviuosly didn't make any difference to Rickys defensive skills - he was face first and open as usual.
Manny was just too fast and accurate. I posthought Ricky would get a hiding but expected it over a fair few rounds - last night was a demolition.
Gotta totally agree with you Miles, I've never found myself shouting so much at a boxer form the opening bell, his decisions, head movement, choice of punches, was just totally bizarre.
I can only think it might have something to do with the apparent rift with Floyd Snr, cos' I saw no visible gameplan at all. It's almost like his mind was on something completey different.
Well done to Pacquiao though, looked sharp, strong and totally outclassed a boxer who just doesn't seem to be able to cut it with the big big dogs.
That was a great display of controlled mayhem Pacquiao put on Ricky....similiar to a pin point fencer using a two machetes. They should of never tried to restructure Hatton at this stage between new found boxer and tried & true pressure fighter.....Altough I honestly dont think it would have mattered in the end.....Coming in I just feel Mayweather may have been as much a distraction as a plus all things considered. Its too late in the game and too high a level and you could literally see Hatton stuck in between styles, once he was nailed and jolted he was visibly over thinking things.Pacquiao was just too fast, too crisp, and what accuracy...hell of a finisher and just devastating last night.A very impressive game plan and execution of skills.
Hatton should hold his head up.He did everything he could at the highest of levels and has never pretended to be boxing beautiful, but a hard charger who went all out, heart on sleeve.A free spirited, charismatic guy who gave the sport a shot in the arm frankly. He has nothing to be ashamed off! One thing Id say as it happens often after a huge fight, when some detract, dismiss the fallens merits and past accomplishments, you equally diminish your favorite guy,You just cannot have it both ways!
I had predicted Pacquiao would have control of the fight by the 5th and take Ricky out by the 7th or 8th round once Ricky reverted his style but it was over before much of anything.
Wow! did ever under estimated Pacquiao's speed.... and it looked like that is exactly what happened to Ricky. He obviously didn't respect Pacquiao's power at all. I knew Ricky would just revert to the style of fighting that got him to the top of the 140 class but I at least, I would have expected him to try the jab and follow a game plan. I guess he felt he needed to smother Pacquiao to nullify his speed and be in the inside. It was as if Ricky wanted to intimidate Pacquiao with his strength... at least that's what it felt like Ricky was trying to do but I guess Pacquiao was ready and too fast for that.
It also looks like Ricky won't have to drop Mayweather Sr. as a trainer, I serious doubt he will stick around with Ricky even if Ricky wants him to. There is too much "I" in Mayweather for that even to be the question. Mayweather Sr. needs to retire from boxing all together.
The only question I have for Ricky, is he has anything left for him to pursue at this point?
I'm Canadian-Filipino and here's
My observation's on last night's fight: (BTW I'm a Pacman fan but I don't bias.)
1.) Hatton charging in w/ Chin UP and hands DOWN. Maybe he got mixed up w/ the directions?
2.) Hatton landing some decent shots that gave Manny PAUSE sometimes and THAT's something to be proud of Brits! I honestly thought that if Hatton could connect with 3-4 shots, that he'd have a chance of knocking Manny down.
3.) Hatton launching his usual barrage of punches, regardless of accuracy. EDIT: Kenny Bayless separating both fighters constantly. (This, as some ppl here predicted, is a bit of a factor in the fight; but it still wouldn't have affected the winner of the bout...Hatton might've just be able to reach the end of the fight.)
4.) Pacquiao, obviously more >>READY<< than Hatton, KNOWING when Hatton's vulnerable and WAITING for his arms to drop as he KNEW they will.
5.) Hatton looking very well for a guy knocked down twice in the 1st.
6.) SOLID, FLUSH, WOUND UP shot that would've rocked a guy 30 lbs. over Hatton. (That punch looked like Little Mac's START button uppercut...except Southpaw)
Conclusion: Hatton could've lasted longer and could've had the chance to knock Manny down/out but was definitely not PREPARED for the fight. This is clearly shown by how Manny almost telepathically predicts Hatton's next punch/move. Floyd Mayweather Sr. should've prepared his fighter better.
Well, kudos to Manny and I hope you Brit fans hang on because I don't think you'll see the last of Hatton. It was a bad KO BUT IMHO I think Hatton had a really bad or at least, overconfident (to put it mildly,) trainer.
Next fight for
Pacquiao - Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Who else is left?) - IF Floyd survives JMMarquez which is a BIG IF. People underestimate that guy but that guy is Slick and is a real badass that has a heart of a Lion like Manny.
Hatton - OSCAR DE LA HOYA - Gonna be an awesome fight if ODLH can drop down to 147 or more OR tune-up w/ a better trainer (like ROACH) and get a belt or two THEN fight ODLH. By that time he should be well recovered and Ready.

I told ya..Little Mac's START punch button.
Quote:
And the 3rd was a full blown left hook right on Hatton's chin.
Hey guys - I was avoiding the site yesterday as I had to see the fight on replay not live. All I can say is WOW!!! What a display by the Pacman, I just heard on foxsports news that it has been declared a public holiday in The Phillipines today after Pacs victory. That was a scary KO for Hatton, he was OUT! Hope he recovers ok, he looked ok on his stool after the fight tho.
Good win for Manny, Hatton just can't walk through shots like that anymore. As soon as he took a shot he went straight at Manny like a wally and got tagged at Mannys will. Manny looked in shock that he was hurting Ricky so easily.
Awful fight for me to watch but gotta give my props to Manny.
He's banned is he? I didn't realise. ;D
That's the thing, I have no qualms with people being proud of their fighter. Manny fought great, but it's posters like that ruin it for everybody. "Hatton is such a loser...blah, blah, blah!". What's the point in that? :-\
The fight itself was message enough really.
Was i correct in saying HATTON was not following instructions from his corner?here is the link below...
LONDON -- Ricky Hatton's father says his son won't hurry a decision on whether to retire after being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in the second round of their 140-pound title fight.
After being knocked down twice in the opening round, the 30-year-old Briton was flattened in the second by Pacquiao's left cross in Las Vegas on Saturday night for his second defeat in 47 fights.
After spending several minutes on his back in the ring, the two-time light-welterweight world champion had to be taken to a hospital for a precautionary brain scan, which the father said revealed no damage.
"He's perfectly all right," Ray Hatton told BBC Radio Five on Sunday. "They've checked him out. He's had all the tests and everything. He's not got a mark on him."
However, the loss may leave a lasting mark on Ricky Hatton's confidence, with his flimsy defense making him an easy target.
Ray Hatton said his son, whose other loss was a 10th-round knockout defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in December 2007, would now have to consider whether to carry on.
"Obviously, we will support him in whatever he does and we'll leave that with him," Hatton said. "At this moment in time, he's probably got a few mixed feelings about it. He'll make that decision whichever way he wants to and the family will support him."
Ray Hatton said his son did not need to continue boxing for the money, and that the fighter was convinced he had caught Pacquiao with some good punches.
"He just said, 'The old heart ruled the head again, Dad; steaming in, got my warning signs in the first round. Set off OK at the start of the second round, caught Manny with a few shots. Really worried Manny a little bit. Manny was just throwing wild shots.' He said, 'Then the heart ruled the head again and I went steaming in.' "
Hatton's trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr., called on him to quit.
"I would suggest he retire. At the end of the day, it's his decision," Mayweather Sr. said. "He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring. He made a good profit. Sometimes you have to go when your prime is still there."
Carl Froch, who knocked out Jermain Taylor a week ago to defend his WBC super-middleweight title, also hopes Hatton retires.
"I have to say, if I was in his position after last night's performance, I would definitely retire," Froch said. "But I can't speak for another fighter. He will decide what he's going to do."

Hatton = bad choice of trainor.
Pacquiao = Prepared very well for the fight that leads him to victory
Mayweather Sr. = talks to much. He would already have been forgotten if not only for his Son's name.
Loosers should just say congratulations to the winner, accept defeat and move on. On the other hand winners should rejoice as to what pinoys are doing.
