Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
2002 Oscar @ 154 was miles ahead of Canelo at this point.
Replace Cotto with 2002 Oscar vs Canelo, Oscar wins convincingly.

I probably agree with that, but what can you base it on? Vargas was the only impressive win Oscar had at 154... Not saying he wasn't a better boxer than CAnelo(though even then you have to give it time), but he started his careeer at 130. I highly doubt alvarez could have made anything under welter since he was a teenager. He is naturally a bigger man.

I like it.
But I'd separate GGG from both Canelo and Ward. GGG has stayed at 160 unwaveringly. I'm sure he'd be willing to take on all comers at 160, regardless of pedigree. If Canelo wants to fight GGG, let him go up to 160, which is after more his natural weight. Canelo, by fighting Khan, confirms what we've always known (ie: Josesito Lopez, et al). That he thrives on beating up on much smaller men. Ward's not nearby busy enough to pin down. He needs to up his activity to at least once a year before we can get a good fix on him.

Khan's speed is his only shot. He will need to run and box all night. He is just as small as josesito Lopez but doesn't possess the same beard. Canelo tore Lopez apart.
Red headed fuck is being a bully yet again and picking on a little guy. A greedy mouthy lil guy who will do anything for a big money fight lol

Khan also has really good foot work the only problem Khan has is he has no head movement and he likes to stay in the pocket too long and likes to trade. If he can stick to boxing it's a very easy nights work for Khan am surprised how every one thinks Canelo is going to kill him. Canelo has very slow foot speed and his hand speed is average at best I think Canelo is going to struggle to land clean and might have to count on the judges giving him yet another gift decision

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Khan is dillusional but he may need that arrogance and single bloody mindiness to pull this off.
Amir Khan sees himself as being on the verge of replacing Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao as the top fighter in the sport of boxing. Khan says that someone has to replace Mayweather and Pacquiao as the top, and he believes it’ll be him that takes over once he beats WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on May 7 on HBO PPV.
Khan isn’t worried about all about fighting at the 155lb catch-weight for the fight, because he plans on bulking up by training hard rather than eating his way to 155. Khan says he’s going to bulk up and then hand Canelo another loss on his resume.
I hate to break this to Khan, but someone already has taken over for Mayweather and Pacquiao as the sport’s biggest star. That person is the 25-year-old Canelo. I don’t think Khan is going to be able to nudge Canelo aside to take over the stop spot.
Even if Khan beats Canelo, I still see him as the number box office and PPV attraction in the United States. Canelo is backed by a huge and growing fan base in the U.S. Those fans will continue to follow Canelo’s fights no matter what. Canelo is more of a celebrity with his fans than an athlete. He doesn’t need to win on order to keep his fans and continue to pick up new fans. Canelo isn’t like Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., who won his fans by fighting frequently and winning. Canelo is more of a movie star type of celebrity, and he can afford to absorb losses without losing fans.
“Someone has to take that spot and once I beat Canelo Alvarez I will be the top guy in the world boxing,” Khan said to Ringtv.com. “This is my time and this my year. I’m in my prime in my career, I’m at my peak, at my best, mentally and physically. This is my time to shock the world.”
Khan will need to prove that he can beat Canelo a second time if he defeats him. There’s a rematch clause in the contract, so Khan won’t be able to just move on and do what he pleases if he wins. He’ll need to prove that he can beat Canelo again. That might prove to be impossible because Canelo will make adjustments in the rematch and will be highly motivated.
If Khan beats Canelo on May 7, he’ll pick up a lot of new fans in America and will be on his way to becoming a Gennady Golovkin type of attraction. However, Khan will still have a long, long ways to go before he can become the No.1 star in the sport. That would take years, and it would require that Khan fight on a more frequent basis than he’s been doing in the last couple of years.
Khan would also need to face better opposition than he’s been fighting in the last four years. Khan can’t become the No.1 star if he’s going to be wasting his career fighting guys like Luis Collazo, Chris Algieri, Julio Diaz, Carlos Molina and Devon Alexander. Khan will need to start fighting guys like Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman and Tim Bradley.
Khan: Once I beat Canelo, I’ll be the top guy in the world

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Stop posting shit articles that say absolutely nothing from that rubbish site. Do you guys even read them? They are so agenda driven it's ridiculous.
There's one quote from Khan - "I'll be the top guy in boxing when I beat Canelo." The rest of the article is arguing "no you won't, you're a shit cunt." It's like the thickest worst of the worst posters on here write them.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Chavez Jr. thinks fighting lighter fighters is an embarrassment.... but using diuretics to get down and the bloating 25 lbs overnight is ok as long as they're in your division. Hello pot, meet kettle.... ;D
Sounds like geographical rivalry. Maybe Jr's mad that Khan wont be able to box circles around Canelo and blank him on the scoreboard before slugging it out with him on a torn acl for half a round like Martinez did to Jr.

PPV. Just still cannot believe that nerve. Wonder what direction they'll go with undercard, nothing as of yet
on a side HBO is not exactly putting out good product so far...Kovalev card was two complete mismatches really. Upcoming Crawford v Lundy should go the same way. Then Manny v Bradley on PPV in a fight few seem to care about and this in May.

The quote alone needs no embellishment. Typical Khan, claiming top p4p status for something he hasn't done yet, and ignoring the scores of boxers who would be ahead of him for that spot. Shit site or not..... Khan has shown time and again his penchant for running at the mouth, and for once I'll be rooting for Canelo to knock his opponent's head clean off.

Why would Khan care about any other boxers? He's promoting himself, that's the way it works.

You can promote yourself without coming across as a fool. Or you can do it Khan's way.

No rehydration clause for this so Canello can come in as heavy as he likes which means Khan could be fighting a light heavyweight or cruiserweight if he goes up to 180-185 lbs.
Amazed Khan didn't demand a clause at 170 lbs seeing as the heaviest he has weighed was 160 lbs.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Middleweight Championship bouts are contested at 160lbs limit!
Any federation that doesn't adhere to the weight classes established is not representing boxing tradition.
How a fighter can adjust the rules to suit his own agenda is beyond me. It's a joke this match up was even made, Khan hasn't even fought in the division and the weight is at 154+1 a "junior" limit not Middleweight.
Being a fan of one man or the other has nothing to do with standing by the rules concerning weight limitations. Just another mark against boxing not being able to police itself.
Khan needs to fight Garcia and Canelo vs GGG is THE fight now at 160lbs! Disappointed in Alvarez!

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
"I don’t think it’s a great move for Khan in having the fight at 155,” said Hearn to IFL TV. “Canelo is probably going to be 175 on the night. There’s no rehydration clause, which is mad. That’s the biggest thing."

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Right, the weight difference could be crazy. Khan won't be able to dent him and will be reeling everytime gets touched. Strange fight this one.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
I really don't think Khan knows what he got himself into with the weight and just jumped at 'being included'. stardom. Wouldn't be shocked if this gets pushed back with some injury or scraped all together. Hopefully.

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Khan is going to get blasted. Horrible just horrible and the worst thing is that he thinks all he has to do is fight like Floyd.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
The millions Khan gets will console him. Khan's nuts should never be questioned, the fearless funker will believe he'll beat Canelo until he's surrounded by corner men and doctors

Regardless of what weight Cannelo comes in at if he lands a flush bomb on Amir he's gonna fuck him.
But the heavier he comes in the slower he's gonna be and he's slow anyway.
Could be a mistake coming in too heavy as Khan is super fast and a great athlete.
Khans gonna have to fight in machine gun bursts then leg it and repeat for 12 seriously disciplined rounds.
Huge ask against a guy who will just walk through your punches.
Possible ... yes but one mistake and he's gonna get brutally banged out.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
All the fighters who have had Khan in trouble were slow, yet he has he has beaten a good few solid speedy guys without being hurt. Khan has super fast hands, but he's not especially clever defensively and doesn't move laterally very well. He's also not nearly strong enough to tie up on the inside and buy himself time and space, Alvarez will just rag doll him.
-
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
canelo just handled cotto fairly easily, one of the scorecards was a bit wide but he was pretty much in control of the whole fight, cotto is a great fighter and amir khan isn't on his level, this looks to be an easy work out for alvarez, I guess khan has a longer reach than cotto but that's about it :S.

Canelo had a distinct size advantage over Cotto. That will now only be magnified versus Khan. Which is what bothers me about Canelo. But hell.... if I could make money beating fighters who can't possibly put a dent in me.... I'd probably do it too. Cotto hit Canelo flush and didn't budge him. Khan has absolutely no chance other than running all night and staying away from Canelo.

Good sum up, Canelo can afford to make twenty times the mistakes compared to Khan. Just the pressure of knowing it will probably make Khan even more tense than he already is. Walking on egg shells. Fatty Canelo has also experienced carrying the weight and moving vs faster guys quite a bit. Everything is new for Khan, and a soggy 155 or more will negate that speed big time.

If you actually look at him, he makes amateur mistakes.

Mma is my default if there is zero boxing on since Griffin v Bonnar 1 but they increasingly have some duds as well, or maybe its just seeing more of it. There number one poster child being groomed and hyped as some Tyson like arm bender only to be schooled and stopped by an former professional boxer will never get old for me.
Thought about it the other night listening to the Fox ufc card....nearly every announce during a match refers to a guy or gal "working on, improving or using solid boxing game", at times using boxing coaches in camp. How many times during a fight do you hear a boxer needing to work on mma skills??? mma will always be the red headed step child to professional boxing.

Khan wins rounds because of his fast hands and work rate, not because of his ring IQ.

Some of those speedy didn't have pop and the others never sat down on their punches. Canelo even sits down on his feints. What concerns me is that Virgil thinks khans got enough pop to keep Canelo honest after the rehydrating is done. If he made it sound like they planned on sticking and moving or the andre ward slug and hug, I might have seen the logic in it (you only have to score and clinch/run) but sounding like they think he's going to stop canelo in his tracks kind of sounds delusional. Sure there's an added 7lbs on his punches (to canelos 25) but there's also an added 7 to carry and drag down the stretch making khan slower.
