Is GGG to big for Canelo?
Ignoring Chavez Jr...is GGG just too big for Canelo?
There both great in their different weight classes but I just don't see how Canelo can win this fight.
Let's ask this question as well..would Canelo beat all of GGG opponents and vice versa for GGG.
After GGG beats Canelo I'm more interested in how he will fair at 168 mixing it up with the Degale, Eubanks and Groves of the division..I think it will be interesting..if it happens.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
Most people are going to have a very difficult time against GGG if they aren't backing up, side stepping, and countering. Canelo has looked better recently, but he won't win by standing in front of him and trying to box. He will have to get very creative to pull this off IMO.
I think this is GGGs fight to lose. He may be losing it a bit with age, but I still thinks he wins comfortably.

Re: Is GGG to big for Canelo?
No. I'm guessing that Canelo walks around heavier than GGG
-
Re: Is GGG to big for Canelo?
No, Alvarez is too good for GGG

I don't see Canelo having KO power at 160...just don't see it.

I believe he would beat Jacobs
-
Re: Is GGG to big for Canelo?
Main positive I see for Canelo is that GGG is not a mayweather type fighter.
-
Re: Is GGG to big for Canelo?
Both struggle with movers as they have slow feet
I just think Canelo's hand speed is so superior.

I don't think so. Jacobs is a really good fighter and his biggest perceived weakness was his chin. He lasted against GGG and by many opinions won the fight. I think that Jacobs is a bit too good of a boxer for Canelo and I don't think Canelo will have near the power at 160

Precisely. Canelo's a cruiserweight hiding out at junior middleweight, now having to fight at middleweight.
GGG's gonna rip him a new one, and I'm gonna record the fight and play it every now and then.
-
Re: Is GGG to big for Canelo?
Feels odd giving either size advantage as they've both fed off a smaller guy to help build this. If we're talking size disadvantage, Golovkin beat a motivated cruiserweight Jacobs..though I had him losing by 1..and Alvarez beat a catchweight and not motivated Chavez. But how long has Canelo been edging his way and 'fighting' as the heavier guy, comfortable BS catchweights be damned while Golovkin has always been trimmed down and on the numbers. I'm really beginning to see Golovkin needing near twice the work rate that he has shown. I see no scenario where Canelo stands in and plays macho and he has the movement. I give Golovkin the passion and hurtful short jab and better hooks to the body. This fight could really boil down to body work by either.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
This fight looks close on paper. In reality I see GGG beating Canelo up as the fight progresses. GGG is one of the best at cutting off the ring & Canelo should think wisely before willing going to the ropes. I see GGG feeling Alvarez out for a round or 2 before starting to turn up the pace. Canelo's pride will be his downfall and I wouldn't be surprised if his corner/ ref saves him.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
I don't get the hype behind GGG, he barely got past Jacobs
He's easy to hit and painfully slow with both his hands and feet.

Canelo is no Sinatra with the foot work. Alvarez maybe quicker with hands but GGG's timing is on point. GGG can take what Canelo throws, I don't think Canelo can stand up to what GGG throws back at him.

Canelo's power really isn't that bad
And there's nothing to suggest his chin is bad.
Golovkin isn't a huge puncher in my opinion,
He's just accurate and consistent (he grinds people down)

Alvarez has been wobbled before. Nothing of note recently but only Kirkland & Angulo were punchers and they were past their best. GGG definitely does grind opponents down and the accumulation of punchers finally catches up. Canelo's power is debatable, every time he has fought a decent opponent the fight has gone the distance. I have seen GGG get hit but I have also seen some of his defensive nuances.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
I can't envisage Canelo being knocked out, he's such a stocky built tank and certain he has the power to stop Golovkin taking liberties.
Now if Jacobs was able to convince many people he outboxed Golovkin (lost narrowly on official judges cards) after spending the entire fight on the backfoot, suffering a knockdown and being overall out-punched, including the significant stat of being out-jabbed in 11 of 12 rounds (throwing 200 less overall), then Canelo has the counterpunch - steal rounds in bursts/spots - style to get a decision.
I like Golovkin to win on PTS - from a betting perspective 7/2 - but concerned he wont get the decision (whether it's deserved or not).

GGG is awesome fighter, very heavy handed, powerful jab, great ring generalship and comes to fight all the time. GGG brings excitement and should be appreciated.

He’s had 51 fights and he has been boxing since he was a teenager
I can’t remember him ever touching down in a fight?
Canelo scored highlight reel one punch knockouts against Khan, Kirkland
And Baldomir! Who has Golovkin knocked out like that?
Most of his stoppages are TKO’s around the 8th round.
I think Canelo’s power is underrated, Golovkin’s power is overrated
But I’d agree GGG is the bigger puncher of the two (slightly)
Canelo has far better defence. His head movement is underrated
Golovkin Isn’t difficult to find as he’s straight up and straight forward.

He seems one paced, one dimensional and there’s no special effects (as Floyd said)
I don’t find his slow plodding around the ring to be all that exciting
He has power but he’s not explosive. There’s plenty of fighters I’d rather watch.

Little Floyd only said that because GGG would smash him to pieces.
GGG is effective and destructive who has beaten good fighters with ease.

Now he would (probably) but prime for prime I'll take Mayweather in that fight
Golovkin was struggle with the speed and movement of Mayweather.
It's a shame we didn't see Martinez fight Golovkin
When Sergio was at his best. Jacobs is the only top fighter GGG has beaten
And that fight was really close. Guys like Rubio, Macklin and Stevens aren't anything special.

Beating Lemieux was a good victory and people had avoided GGG for years.

Who said he was down? Was anyone surprised at Khan being KO'd? Kirkland had already shown worth with inactivity and the Ishida fight. The Baldomir KO was nice as were the rest but there were a lot of miles on the clock and that was about 4 years after his little run at 147. I would have expected GGG to do the same to all 3.

On top of which Alvarez has the entire Vegas establishment behind him. He can be a massive draw/moneyspinner for Vegas in big events for years to come, Golovkin not so much and he's heading towards 40. Even if Alvarez loses by a few rounds he'll win on the cards. Best Golovkin can hope for if it goes to the cards is a rematch. Golovkin has to KO him to win and I don't think he will.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
There will be no knockdowns in this fight
Canelo will win it nine rounds to three.
Younger, quicker and more talented
People will be suprised how easy this is fight Alvarez.

It may well be a tough fight for GGG but he'll do it.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
Golovkin v Alvarez - Everything you need to know ahead of the fight
Now that the hype over Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor has come and gone, the boxing world has turned its focus to what should be one of the best fights in recent memory; Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez. In a clash being billed as the ‘Supremacy’, the WBA, WBC, IBF and The Ring middleweight belts will all be on the line. We’ve taken a look at everything you need to know ahead of the super fight.
The fight will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on Saturday, September 16th. UK viewers will either need to have a late night or early morning as the fight isn’t set to take place until 3am on Sunday morning.
The fight is available for UK viewers on PPV channel Box Nation for £16.95. ???
Anyone who’d like to see these two go at it again in the future should hope for a Golovkin win. In an interview with the LA Times, Eric Gomez, the president of Golden Boy Promotions revealed that Alvarez had an immediate rematch clause in place on his contract, whereas Golovkin, if he loses, won’t be guaranteed a rematch.
Golovkin is undefeated in his 37 fights and he’s won 33 of those by knockout. Alvarez has only lost one of his 51 fights and that was to Floyd Mayweather, and there’s no shame losing to him! With all the belts on the line, something has to give.
The undefeated, and now retired, Floyd Mayweather thinks that Alvarez will hand Golovkin his first loss. He said: “Do I think Triple G can beat Canelo? Absolutely not. I think there’s a few guys that can beat Triple G, and Canelo is on the top of the list. I believe that he’ll beat him. He’s got good punching power, but he’s flat-footed.”
Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is good friends with Canelo and as such, he’s picking him to win too. He said: “So I have been riding with Canelo for a long time but it’s going to be a tough fight because Triple G is from Kazakhstan, he has the good foundations of a boxer. But so has Canelo, so I’ll put my money on him.”
Amir Khan, who lost to Alvarez in 2016, is also picking the upset. He said: “I honestly think he beats Triple G. A lot of people underestimate him, I don’t know why. I’ve been in the ring with Canelo. I’ve never been in the ring with Triple G, but I’ve been in the ring with Canelo and he’s hard to hit. He’s quite tricky and like I said he hits very hard, so you have to give him that respect. I think that he gives a lot of people problems.”
The bookmakers currently have Golovkin as the 4/6 favourite. Alvarez is 6/5 with the draw available at 25/1.
Such is the power of the two fighters, it’s quite surprising to that the bookies have the fight going the distance. They have a points decision available at 8/11 with a stoppage priced at Evens.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
Britain's Nicola Adams will fight on the Saul Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin undercard in Las Vegas on 16 September.
The double Olympic champion, who turned professional in January, is making her debut in the United States and takes on Hungarian Alexandra Vlajk.
She beat Virginia Carcamo and Mexico's Maryan Salazar in her first two bouts.
"Every boxer dreams of fighting in Vegas and to be doing so as part of the biggest fight of the year is incredible," said 34-year-old Adams.
Unbeaten WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight champion Golovkin takes on 'Canelo' Alvarez in what Adams' promoter Frank Warren has called "among the best fights to be made in the last decade".
In confirming Adams' fight on social media on Thursday, Warren added: "This is without doubt the boxing event of 2017, and I am delighted that Nicola has the chance to showcase her skills on such a huge bill.
"For Nicola to be part of it is brilliant for her and women's boxing.
"I have every confidence that Nicola will become a world champion in the professional ranks."
Leeds' Adams has set her sights on winning a world title following victories in her first two professional fights.
The flyweight began in Manchester with a comfortable points win over Argentinian Virginia Carcamo before forcing a stoppage against game Mexican Maryan Salazar in her home city of Leeds.
Her next opponent Vlajk, 37, has won 11 of her 17 contests and stopped two opponents since turning professional in 2013. She has banked over 114 rounds, compared to Adams' seven.
