If the opponent and his team are happy to go ahead with the added risk, then fine. Do it.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
All that story is utterly funny and sad at the same time;
I can buy the idea that in Mexico, they have a problem with the beef, because those who own cattles did give that or this to their beefs. That, to me, sounds very plausible. HOWEVER, when you are a top boxer and training in Mexico, aren't you supposed to be aware of that? Isn't it your responsability to know what you're throwing in your plate? If I would be a guy, young and filthy rich like Canelo, I would test the provenance of my meat to make sure that everything is legit and every supplement I would buy would be tested the same way. When you win a couple of millions for a fight, paying a few K's to make sure that you don't have any problems down the line just seem like the proper thing to do.

Looking less and less likely to go ahead with even José Sulaimán saying "It has Died". One year ban for Alvarez on the way?

My apologies. Mauricio.

Not at all. I thought you were trying to make a joke, that even Jose in the afterlife says about the fight "It has died", complete with a pun thrown in. :)

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
Well, well, well....... when Mauricio Sulaiman himself has lost hope that the fight will go on.... that seems to be the final nail on the fight's coffin.
Everyone knows that Mauricio, like his dad before him, will bend the rules (or make his own) to give his own fighters a break. The Sulaiman dynasty has been kind to the likes of Canelo, JCC Jr., and other anointed fighters born with the silver spoon. But you can only f*ck up so often and so much... before "the Don" himself will turn his back on you. After all, some semblance of objectivity needs to be preserved for appearances sake.
GGG needs to get Ginger out of his head and move forward. Ginger's legacy is permanently tarnished, even as his legions of groupie fans follow him into the vast cheaters wasteland. GGG is still one of the most exciting fighters out there today, and even more important...... he's CLEAN. So f*ck Ginger, and full speed ahead. The huge PPV payday is gone, but there's a lot more, even better fights to be made.

Ahhh.... there's the Sulaiman we all know and love. Canelo "CANNOT" be found guilty of doping. Never mind due process and/or any evidence that may surface to the contrary. Canelo "CANNOT" be found guilty.
I knew good ol' Mauricio couldn't just leave well enough alone, and let the process take care of itself.
All the alphabet orgs have their share of corruption, but the Sulaiman-led WBC is the granddaddy of them all.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
I can't believe Vegas are going to stop this fight happening. Golovkin must be devastated as well. That's a huge chunk of money he isn't going to make and he's not getting any younger.

Canelo has withdrawn fight the May-5th fight.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
"I am truly shocked by what has happened and I lament that this has caused people to have doubts about my integrity. I have always been a clean fighter," Alvarez said in a statement released by Golden Boy Promotions.
Addressing the press, Canelo added: "I first got the call from Eric Gomez - 'you tested positive. My first reaction was, 'there has to be a mistake.'
"I am sad and feel powerless that this fight can not happen now. I have nothing to hide. I want to be transparent.
"I will do whatever I need to do to demonstrate I have never (intentionally) taken this substance. I have always operated as a clean fighter. I have always taken clean substances.
"I respect the sport unconditionally and would never do anything to tarnish something I have given so many sacrifices for. It saddens me that people are accusing me of doing something improper.
"From here on out, I will take increased precautions to ensure this will never happen again. This hit me hard. If it helps other athletes to clear their name. I wish it hadn't been me."
On Golovkin's damning media conference on the situation, the two-weight world champion said: "What Golovkin or his team say does not bother me at all. They're not experts, doctors."

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
Same reaction from every single drug cheat...as far as I’m concerned Canelo is a POS and GGG needs a massive name to take his place on May the 5th.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
There are multiple fighters willing to step up and fight GGG in a month. He needs to get things negotiated now so that his opponent has decent time to train. I really hope he doesn’t pick a nobody. At the very least pick Andrade who is willing to fight. Preferably someone better but he is the least I expect.

Thing is... Canelo left GGG in a bad spot. GGG understandably wants to go ahead with the May date, and it's a tall order to choose an opponent... go through with the necessary negotiations... and give the opponent sufficient time to train. As the previous post said.... Canelo is a gigantic POS.... and I hope his stock takes a corresponding hit. Unfortunately, it probably won't.

Can make it simple and choose Charlo, Charlo is willing to drop his scheduled fight. Jacobs is also set to fight right about the same time. I bet he’d be willing to drop his fight. There are options that can be ready

Agreed. I guarantee he can fight most top guys in the division if he wants. Most will drop whatever they are doing to fight GGG. I just have a bad feeling that he will pick some stuff.

It’s a joke. It was supposed to be a year but because he cooperated it’s only 6 months. And it’s 6 months from the positive test so he can still fight in September.
So basically nothing happened to him. The GGG fight just got pushed back to September.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
canelo-alvarez-suspended-six-months-nevada-state-athletic-commission
Quote:
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has reached an agreement with Canelo Alvarez that will result in the Mexican fighter being suspended for six months.
The commission and Canelo's team reached an adjudication agreement before Wednesday's scheduled hearing and it was adopted unanimously (5-0) by the commission.
Alvarez received a one-year suspension, but because he has cooperated it is suspended to six months, as the commission rules allow.
Alvarez was training for his mega rematch with unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin when he tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol from samples provided in February.
The fight was scheduled for May 5th in Las Vegas. Now Golovkin will fight Vanes Martirosyan on that date in Carson, Calif.
Alvarez will be eligible to fight Aug. 17, six months from the date of his first positive test. This means Alvarez and Golovkin could potentially stage their highly-anticipated rematch in September assuming Golovkin wins his fight with Martirosyan.
It's worked out perfectly for him then, GGG will be even older and they can reschedule the 'well marinated' rematch for September when Canelo will no doubt say he will 'prove all his doubters wrong' or some shit like that
-

this all about???
You broke the rules, you were found guilty of cheating however we will negotiate your punishment, and we will go easy on you for cooperating, sorry but he should have cooperated with the rules in the first place.
He's got off lightly if you ask me.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
Fat Dan has always been pro Canelo. Probably because he works for ESPN and they tell him to. Anyways, he wrote an article about that it was a good punishment because it loses him money because he only gets to fight once this year instead of twice. Fat Dan is the worst.

Re: Canelo fails drugs test
Disgrace.
This is wrong on so many levels.
-
Re: Canelo fails drugs test
No matter. Canelo, he of the carefully cultivated choirboy image, is a convicted cheater. He joins the ranks of Margarito, JCC Jr., Salido and Fernando Vargas as convicted cheaters who have irreparably soiled their own reputations. Now he can continue to eat his contaminated meat. His stock has gone way down, and he matters only to blind Canelo fans.
