Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Buddy back in the limelight. Good performance by Kovalev, "don't worry about the crowd" resonated with him.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
I thank Buddy. He tell me, don't beat more women. Just go home.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
What's with opponent interviews first? Probably smart though. Kovalev just sounds pretty sharp here ;D. He's definitely turned the page tonight

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Thought Alvarez was going to get him again. Pleasantly surprised.
Didn't see the fight, did Alvarez try to utilize a very stupid game plan where he expected Kovalev to get tired and give him the knockout on a platter?

I think yes and no. Alvarez seemed to look for the same gameplan as the first fight but it didn’t work. But, Kovalev was winning in their first fight before the knockout, so I think that Kovalev already proved to be the better fighter.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Kovalev regains WBO title by winning rematch with Alvarez
Los Angeles (AFP) - Sergey Kovalev made his reputation as the 'Krusher', but on Saturday in a rematch with Eleider Alvarez, the Russian champ regained his light heavyweight title by using his boxing smarts.
The 35-year-old Kovalev won by a 12-round unanimous decision to avenge a stunning loss to Alvarez six months ago and retake the World Boxing Organization 175-pound belt.
The judges had Kovalev controlling the fight with one scoring it 120-108. The other two scored it 116-112.
Kovalev did some of his best boxing in the 10th round, where he hurt Alvarez, and the 12th, where he had a strong finish.
Saturday's victory makes him the first fighter since 1990, and the third all time, to win the light heavyweight title three times.
Kovalev, who improved to 33-3-1 with 28 knockouts, seemed all but invincible in the light heavyweight division until he lost consecutive fights to Andre Ward in 2017 and 2016.
Alvarez seized the WBO belt from Kovalev on August 4. The Colombian was trailing on every scorecard, but knocked Kovalev down three times in the seventh round to win his first world title.
Saturday's fight at the Ford Center in Dallas, Texas started out like the first fight but Kovalev switched the script.
Kovalev appeared to be in better shape, he used his jab more effectively and his defence was much improved.
The Russian threw almost twice as many punches (213-111) and landed 60 jabs compared to just 33 for Alvarez.
Kovalev blamed the first loss on "overtraining" so this time he brought in a new trainer Buddy McGirt and strength coach Teddy Cruz.
Alvarez, 34, suffered the first loss of his career to go with 24 victories. This was his fourth straight fight against a former or current champion.

On the undercard, Richard Commey earned his first world title by stopping Isa Chaniev in the second round of a IBF world lightweight championship fight.
Commey, of Ghana, takes the vacant title and sets up a more lucrative title fight with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Commey knocked Chaniev down three times in the bout before referee Laurence Cole stopped it at 39 seconds of the second.
"I am very happy I won this world title," said Commey. "It is everything for me, this is what I worked so hard for."

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Props to the racist scumbag. I didn’t think he had the mental fortitude. Proved me wrong and I love that even if he is a racist scumbag

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Sergey Kovalev overcame adversity and proved all his haters like Max Kellerman were wrong.
It's been years since I felt this good about the outcome of a fight.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Is this a case of Kovalev proving he is still great or showing that Alvarez was never that good?
I honestly think it’s the latter. I have never been that high on Alvarez. I thought that he wasn’t a great fighter by any means. He was pretty good but never overly impressive. Kovalev was winning the first fight before he got caught. The difference is that this fight he didn’t get caught.
I think that Kovalev did show that he was able to mentally get back into boxing, but I don’t think that at this stage of his career he beats the other belt holders at light heavyweight.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Again is there actually any proof behind Kovalev being a supposed racist?
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Kovalev won because Alvarez did shit.

The only thing I know of is when he had his photo took of a kid wearing a t-shirt with a monkey wearing boxing gloves on it, In the picture I think he pointed at the t-shirt and captioned it with something like "I see the training is going well" and sent it to Adonis via Twitter...or something like that.
If that is all there is then it's hardly crime of the century.
I'd be interested to know what else he has done to get such a strong racist tag.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Kov must have put down the bottle. Because those liver shots Alvarez was throwing was not making him wince as he normally did in the first fights and his last few fights I would say. His liver must have regenerated. ;D

Ive wondered the same thing. Is there more than just stuff he said to Stevenson?

He did call Pascal a monkey as well.
But the thing is, in Russia/Eastern Europe, "monkey" isn't a racial term. A monkey to them is somebody acting silly/somebody they find to be humorous.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Great redemption here for Kovalev, he fought a very well disciplined fight and stuck to the game plan. Lets get some of these unifications made.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Why do we not have multiple Teofimo Lopez threads going?
I think this guy could be a huge threat to anyone around the weight. I've seen a lot of complaining about his after bout antics, but I doesn't faze me. I'd prefer that rather than false beef, cheap shots and press conference brawls.

Bollocks. Tell that to all the black football players showered with banana skins when they play in Russia/Eastern Europe.

I think he’s the real deal. I’ve been wrong before, but he seems to be legit. I think he is ready to really step up.

Me too, it sounds like Pedraza is already trying to make excuses to avoid him. The fight was being talked about previously. Now Pedraza has been saying that Lopez brings nothing to the table. I think Loma better get him soon, before he gets any better.

Dunno plenty of free real estate on a boxing board to make a few :). I see promising things from Lopez, big time. He has some growing up to do and would do well to stay a little bit humble though. Kid has great ring awareness

I think that Pedraza gets beat down pretty easily. Bad style match up. I can see why Pedraza doesn’t want any part of him. Maybe Robert Easter would fight him?

I heard there was talk of Easter vs Barthelemy.
Yea Lopez takes out Pedraza.

May i ask what makes him a scumbag like did he hurt someone or do hate crime. I am just asking because i have not really kept up with the guy outside the ring because scumbag must done something bad.

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Well let us hope we can get another line of fights to unify the title again. Outside of a few fighters i have not really kept up with lhw division for past year hope they get some good fights out of it.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Also does anyone know what the next fight would be or make the most sense. Really have not kept great track of the division for the past year so i am not even sure who are the key players anymore.
-
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs Eleider Alvarez II
Bivol, Gvozdyk, and Beterbiev are the three best at the moment that Kovalev could face.

F’n pathetic we even have to discuss this isn’t it? Let’s pretend we don’t know what’s blatantly racist. Actually no, let’s bold face lie. Scumbag has scumbag fans, shocking, no wait, not shocking in the least.
