Excellent last round for both.
7-5 Fury but another close fight. It was a better than the first fight. Higher pace and more exciting.
Usyk set a high pace and Fury landed the better punches for me.
Everyone else has Usyk winning it.
Didn’t see that coming. All 3 judges gave it 116-112. I thought it was closer than that.
116-112 X 3 to Usyk 8 and 4 for the still undisputed champion.
Won't argue but four rounds? No way
I had Usyk by a round. That was too wide and Fury will feel hard done by, but then after claiming he was going to destroy Usyk he only has himself to blame.
The AI had it 10 rounds to 2 to Usyk.
If the Saudis aren't careful they'll ruin their reputation for corruption. Well done to them for not putting their finger on the scale.
Looks like the set up was on for the Dubois fight
Great result! Sounds like a very competitive fight, maybe they'll shoot for a 3rd regardless of 2-zip. Also sounds like the AI has gone full HAL-2001 space odyssey.
Dubois is thick as pig shit , fair play.
I'm sure the Saudis all enjoyed it. It's the early hours of Sunday in Riyadh. They can all have a few beers in the bars and then head off to church.
Don't think fury will fight again. And he'll feel robbed there and rightly so. Not of a win but short changed by the judges as that looks so decisive
I understand Naz won the car they were giving away ???
Dubois and Frank Warren pissing on Usyk parade. Show some respect and give Oleksandr the credit he deserves.
Fury has walked off. Babies.
Eddie Hearn trying to set up Fury v AJ. Cunts should have more respect for Usyk.
I'm glad Usyk got the nod. The right man won the fight. I didn't want there to be that 'I told you so' from Fury if he got the win. I didn't want how incredible Usyk is to be buried by Fury under a veil of 'messing about' in the first fight. It was a fairly even fight. I thought Usyk punctuated more rounds or had more moments than Fury and whilst close, was a clear winner. We tend to want a close fight to be reflected in close scores. That doesn't have to be the case. If you win a round, you win a round. It's as simple as that. It could be by the slimmest of margins. Do that 12 times over and on paper, you've waltzed a fight that's very close. Now neither man did that. But this idea that Usyk winning 8-4, or the other way around by the way, being a nonsense. I just don't get it.
I understand there was an AI scoring system and it scored it wide for Usyk. I also understand that Fury and his supporters think it's a joke. Of course they do. Maybe they're right? But maybe the AI scoring is bang on the money. Maybe it just scores a round on it's merits. Maybe it doesn't care if you did better than in fight one. Or better than you did in a previous round. It certainly doesn't score with sentiment, it isn't biased. It doesn't see a close fight and subconsciously begin to share out the rounds in an act of fairness.
The take away from this shouldn't be the scoring or Fury or Warren crying. It should be how utterly brilliant Usyk is. How supremely skilled he is and how hard as fucking nails he is. Those two things combined makes for a truly remarkable fighter, who it has been our absolute pleasure to watch throughout his incredible career as an amateur and a pro.
Part of me doesn't want him to fight Dubois. No offence to Daniel. Despite being annoying as fuck with this new vocal approach, he's got decent form and probably deserves it. But how many fights does Usyk have left in him? I don't see a Daniel Dubois fight as a worthy book end to such a great career.
This is the price you pay for when self belief loses all perspective and turns into arrogance. Fury did what he could and played his part in an absorbing fight but Usyk threw and landed more. Not only that but the Ukrainian's shots were far more accurate and effective, clear concussive punches rocking Fury's head back and combinations that made it clear who was doing the better work. Fury was far too content to think he was winning rounds simply because he was not being backed up and battered for all three minutes. He started well and had the champion pushed in pockets with some tricky moments but never really capitalised on any of the successful work he did. When switching to southpaw it was the smaller man who took that opportunity to repeatedly catch Fury with lefts to the head.
It is no mean feat to get past Fury's jab and pop up on the inside to land shots from some crazy angles but that is exactly what Usyk did all night long. Fury was landing double jabs and body shots early on but as soon as Usyk adjusted and created angles that allowed him to work Fury had no answer, the uppercut Fury threw in the Fifth was something I was expecting to trouble Usyk with all night but that threat never materialised. Usyk landed a lot of overhand rights that Fury could not avoid and seemed to hurt Fury more with body shots, supposedly Usyk's own Achilles heel. It was Fury's weight in the end that proved to be a weakness rather than a strength, slowing him down and ultimately leading to his downfall.
It is no good having all the power in the world if you sacrifice the speed that will allow you to land with it. Fair play to the big man even with all that blubber his stamina puts many smaller and younger heavyweights to shame but Usyk is on another level and the consistency and accuracy of clever combinations and hurtful single shots from the smaller man added up over twelve rounds to become an insurmountable avalanche. Fury could not smother or nullify that kind of quality work and ran out of spite and ideas half way through.
Usyk has nothing to prove and Fury has nowhere to go. 'Found out' is a bit strong for two fights in which Fury surely pushed his opponent closer to defeat than he has ever been, but 'found wanting' is I think fair given all the hyperbolic nonsense we have had to put up with from Fury for years now.
Fury came in fat. End of!
I had it 116-112 for Usyk. @Master can you now see how Usyk does as a heavyweight? This makes Usyk my fighter of the year. It's still early although it's a great start for Fighter of the decade.
So I've just watched it again. The right guy probably won but I wouldn't have been surprised if Fury got the nod. I can see why he's unhappy with the decision. I'm just glad we got round nine in the first fight as its given us something semi decisive. Do I want to see a third fight. Not really as I've no doubt it would go the same way with two technicians being cagey. How many decent punches were landed in the fight?
I guess I miss the days of heavies slugging it out. Usyk is an awesome fighter for sure but his size means he can't really blow people away and that's what a lot want to see with the heavies. What a fighter though.
Interesting observation from a friend of mine who's not really into boxing when he said fury didn't really look like he was doing anything most of the fight yet usyk was always on his toes moving so deserved it. I mean I know what he was saying but....
I can see fury fighting aj and usyk facing dubois. If they both win the trilogy will probably happen though fury sounds like he doesn't want to fight in Saudi again.
Usyk is a special talent. That is true. But we should not absolve Fury from coming into the fight fatter than a seal. His team thought girth would be able to have him maul Usyk, but all it did was make him a bigger, slower target for Usyk to hit. After about 5 rounds it was clear Fury could not get out of the way fast enough from Usyk's punches. That is why I felt as if Fury would have come down to 255lbs, at least, he would have been more mobile for much of the fight.
I thought fury won :)
Bad strategy by Fury. He clearly realised he couldn’t outbox or live with Usyks 12 round engine after the first fight, so he rolled the dice that he could come in and steamroll him like he did with Wilder.
He soon realised that Usyk is much too cagey a customer for that. His footwork was so good that he hardly allowed Fury and opportunity to maul and lean on him.
I think Usyk just has Fury’s number. They could fight ten times and Usyk would win 10 close decisions.
I didn’t think the scoring as too off. I’ve seen much stranger decisions (GGG/Canelo!). As has been mentioned before, if you shade lots of close rounds you end up winning a wide points decision.
I reckon that Usyk takes this by unanimous decision, something like 116-112 or similar. I see a much less dramatic fight than last time, but with Usyk clearly outboxing an overweight Fury over the latter half of the fight.
Keep following me for more great tips.
Nothing left for Usyk now is there really?
Not really. Dubois the only option that makes a bit of sense.
Do that and walk away
Usyk could have a case for winning all 3 awards for 2024.
Fighter of the year
Fight of the year (Fury I)
Round of the year (Fury I RD9).
If there is one knock I can give Usyk it's this
He has never gave any elite fighter a beatdown or a total schooling.
Yes he's beat AJ x2, Gypsy King x2 and Triple D but he didn't run them outta the ring. All the fights against those guys were very competitive. He has yet to do what Spence to did to Crwaford, what RJJ did to Toney, what Mayweather did to Canelo, what Ray Leonard done to Duran in their 2nd fight. What Hagler done to Hearns. What Ali did to Liston.
Every great fighter needs a few ass whoopings at elite level or super dominant victories in their pocket. Usyk does not have any.
His accomplishments are much greater than his ability, and that's proven by the fact he's never given an elite fighter a beatdown or a total schooling.
Usyk isn't incredibly skilled in any area. He's good in all areas. He's the "finds a way to win" guy.
Which is awesome.
But just imagine for a second that you didn't know who Usyk was, and you watched him fight.
I think, if ppl were being honest, you'd be underwhelmed with his power, his speed....you'd see he has good defence and feet but isn't a shockingly talented fighter. He just frustrates guys with his toughness.
Fury, as a big super heavyweight, should of just stuck his jab out. Done some work at mid-range and then tied Usyk on the inside' Over and over again, that is what Lennox Lewis would have done, and so would of Wladimir Kiltschko'.
It was Fury’s (and AJ's) inability to fight like a good big man, which lost them the fight.
A prime Mike Tyson obliterates Usyk.
I know this is kinda off topic but prime Mike is probably the worst match up (stylewise) for an Usyk type and I rate Usyk highly within this era of Heavyweights, he is the most accomplished active fighter in the sport of boxing.
Hell, Even post-prison Tyson spanks the Ukrainian. Too much power, too much aggression.
Usyk likes to control distance and Tyson has quick feet and closes the distance very fast, while not coming straight in but bobbing and weaving changing levels. Usyk won't have the control that he likes to have and Usyk's use of angles will be negated by Tyson's squared up almost ambidextrous stance. Tysons style and speed/agility/athleticism would be too much for Usyk. Usyk is better off with someone who will try to box him conventionally.
Micheal Spinks was essentially the Usyk of the 80's 'Mike Tyson blasted him out in 91 seconds'. Prime Mike was a force of nature
I do get what you are saying. A few friends who watched the fights - casual fans - have said the same. They want to see explosive kos and beatings but we've not seen that from usyk because of his size and the way he has to fight. He does what he has to do to win and is one of the most skilful fighters we've ever seen. His heavy fights have all been close agreed. Dubois went down with fatigue after being outclassed but he's just not a fighter that's going to come in and blow someone away.
Let's see your predictions on masters other thread with him against the greats.
