So you think Steele should've cheated and helped Taylor because he was winning ???
May aswell not have the last 14 seconds of a fight (which is when he touched down) if you can't still win the fight at that stage.

What a fuckin loser, you don't deserve to watch boxing if you hold fighters in such low regard. You should stick to watching it the clown or WWE ::**
Time doesn't matter in a stoppage. The fight is stopped when a fighter can't continue. Its not like Steele was wearing a watch. We as viewers saw the 5 seconds left Steele didnt. So why blame him for being compassionate?

if u see what i typed before u will see i said i didnt think steele should of give taylor a favour or as u say cheat but i think he should of asked him again because he see he wasnt concentrating he looked at the corner i think it was bad stoppage but thats my opinion he must of known the round was close to ending just by using common sense plus there was red light at the back of taylors corner saying 10 secs left so surely he must of seen it ??

...But the Red light is irrelevant - time is irrelevant - if the fight should be stopped at 1 minute of rounds 6 or 3 minutes 57 of round 12 should make no difference. Ref's do not have watches so that coruption is avoided.
Nobody would've moaned if the stoppage was in the first 3 seconds, so why the last?

well thats simple really isnt it because chavez has 2:57 to pound taylor at 2 seconds left if steele would of waved it on there would of been 1 second left or the fight would of been over and chavez couldnt get there thats why

..... and that would be cheating, becuase it would be helping Taylor due to the time of the round rather than his condition.
I wanted Taylor to win bigtime, but being objective it was defintely the right decision
Re: Who Thinks Meldrick Taylor Was Screwed
Whether or not he would've knocked him out in 2 seconds is totally irrelevant,it's not the point!!! Time has no factor in a boxing match, you can win at any stage from the first second until that last bell goes , thats the whole point of it!! You are asking the referee do help a fighter based on the time. 178 seconds is just 3 shapes, as is 180 seconds how close there are to each other has no relevance!! And Meldrick was not fit to continue, and even if he was the rules state that you have to respond when questioned and he didn't answer Steele.
Re: Who Thinks Meldrick Taylor Was Screwed
u know mate i noticed something taylor was down at 15 seconds ref started counting at 14 or 13 and by 10 second mark he had already counted to 7 umm he was counting real fast wasnt he ?? if it would of been different ref taylor would of survived and he would of won chavez wouldnt of landed anything
but thats my opinion and youve got urs and we aint going be able to change are opinions so just leave it at that :)
Re: Who Thinks Meldrick Taylor Was Screwed
How can you guys say if a guy is finished in a boxing match, to give him the last 3 seconds since that is all he needs to win. Meldrick was done at that point. The fight is over after 12 rounds in that case in 1990. Whether there is 3 minutes or 3 seconds. Steele did a great job in that fight. When Meldrick could not fight on he stopped it. I thought it was a good stoppage. And in light of how the fighters fought after this, it is even more justified. If you want to blame someone blame Duva for being the idiot that he is and standing on the corner ropes so Meldrick looks over at him and Steele thinks Meldrick is not focused. But to blame Steele who was looking after the welfare of Meldrick is not right. I never had a problem with that fight being stopped.

I do blame Duva. I also think that Steele waived it off early. Again usually a ref wipes the fighters gloves off, asks him to come forward, and then determines it. Steele counted fast, asked him a question then waived it off. No matter if you agree or not Steele didn't take the usual steps in determining a fighters ability to continue. Seriously if he would have wiped off his gloves and asked him to come forward, the bell would have rang.
Watch this one and see if Steele handled it this way, the fight would have been over.

The ref counts
Asks if a fighter is ok to continue
Wipes off the gloves
Then asks the fighter to take 3 steps forward
Steele only got to the second one because Meldrick didn't respond to him.
Steele wasn't looking for Duva on the apron he was looking at Meldrick Taylor. So look at it from Steele's perspective instead of someone outside the ring watching it on TV and you'll see hwy he stopped it

Re: Who Thinks Meldrick Taylor Was Screwed
Ok watching that vid you basically proved that Steele was right ot stop it. Why? Because the ref did exactly what Steele did
1. Counted
2. Asks if a fighter is ok to continue
3. If he gets a response, wipes off the gloves
4. Then asks the fighter to take 3 steps forward
5. If the fighter can then the fight is called back on.
Meldrick never made it past the second one so. All you did was prove that Steele was right. IF Meldrick had responded then Steele would have wiped off the gloves. And Steele asked Meldrick TWICE if he was ok. So that vid proved ref procedure and showed that Steele did it perfectly. YOU HAVE TO ASK THE FIGHTER IF HE IS OK BEFORE YOU WIPE OFF THE GLOVES AND ASK FOR A STEP FORWARD!! Meldrick didn't respond when Steele asked him and Steele waived it off. Right stoppage.

Oh yea Starr just like Kenny Bayless did to Vargas after Mosely crushed him.... ::** Look at that one Vagas fell back over 2x got up swaying Bayless never really looked him in the eyes never got an answer from Vargas but let him continue for at least 5-10 more seconds before stopping it for good...
Re: Who Thinks Meldrick Taylor Was Screwed
Say for example that Meldrick was given the extra seconds and won when he was out on his feet. How would that have looked? He would have had to give Chavez a rematch pretty soon after just because of the clamor for it after this fight, and chances are after all the damage he had with the blood loss and the orbit broken on his eye, he would have had a harder time lasting the distance the second time. He put on a superhuman effort and was 3 seconds short. He never really recoved from that fight emotionally and he always took alot of punches, although I think the loses to Espana and Norris were more because of size than because of being worn out. There would have been criticism of Steele had he not stopped it had Taylor taken more punches. I mean how legit is it to say that because Taylor almost made it by seconds he should win. Had there been 30 seconds left in that fight Taylor would have been stopped brutally it looks like. Chavez would have been relentless.
