And as for rubbing it in your faces, surely we were just celebrating a deserved win and comprehensive performance by Calzaghe. And if there is a case of overhyping in recent months, then it has to be Hasim Rahman, who everyone was saying would beat Maskaev, yet fell short of the mark, despite having no bigger victories on his record than Monte Barrett in recent years.
The overhyping issue is one that may work both ways, and that is why we always hgave to take any american boxers reputation with a pinch of salt, simply there are just so many bums who just get beaten to boost records and make others look good doing the rounds in America. And yes, I am a snobbish bastard....but not when it comes to my boxing ;)
And if anyone does a comprehensive survey of boxers....I bet there is a higher percentage of Brits who have fought on other shores compared to Americans who have left their homeland to fight.

Yeah just pretend that you Brits didn't hype the hell outta Robin Reid before Lacy thrashed him and KO'd him. Or that you didn't all hype NAZ before he fought a real fighter in Barrera and got dominated. Also why the hell should Americans fight overseas unless it is necessary? The U.S. is where the Money is, the U.S. is where the big fights are, NOT the UK. Lacy went overseas, Calzaghe sure as hell didn't come over here did he? Sucra Ray Olivera, and Vince Phillips went over to the UK to fight the British Troll didn't they? BS that UK fighters travel more than American fighters, they should though. Lets be real here.

Yeah cause Kosta and Lacy came over here for the scenery. If you say that the home fighter has so much advantage i.e. Hatton and JC, then that would work against them if they went to the US. Why should their opponent get the advantage? As for Rein, I know who gave Joe a tougher fight out of Reid and Lacy. The reason people went on about the Lacy fight so much was that Lacy and the US media hyped him so much and gave "NO" credit to Joe. I saw an interview with LAcy here before the fight and how he said he didn't care where the fight was because he was just gonna take the belt and Joe couldn't do anything about it, how Joe was just a slapper, how Joe was scared to fight him. This was despite him not really having done anything. Then the fight happens and the rest is history.
On a side note, while I agree that nationality and color have nothing to do with boxing, if I was a world champ, I would never fight in Germany. Not because I hate german fighters, just their judges and refs.

CC sanj, Calzaghe is the one with a few belts around his waist, so it doesn't make sense for him to go to the states for a fight at the moment, especially when the other two straps of the big 4 in the division are also in Europe. It's up to the challenger to come and beat him, not for him to put his neck on the line....unless there is massive $$$$$ in it for him.

I don't think it's so much that Americans hate British fighters, but rather that most of us simply don't know about British fighters. If you're not fighting on HBO these days, you simply have almost no shot at any sort of mainstream recognition here in the states. Calzaghe is coming to the end of his career, and only now is he going to fight on HBO. Hatton's 'American coming out party' has pretty much turned into a complete disaster. They thought his blood and guts style would be instantly admired here, and instead for his first HBO fight he put on a less-than-exciting performance against a no-name, thus losing any chance of pulling in a large amount of American fans who hadn't seen him yet.

I have read this post with interest and have similar views that the american public seem to think that unless you fight in the States you are a bum.
However being a massive football (Soccer ;)) fan i can honestly say that us Brits have the same views regarding Stateside footie players!! :o
Americans are spoilt with the best that Boxing can offer and as a result they base there opinions on what they see on TV, in magazines etc In the UK we are blitzed with football 24/7 and our views seem very similar to the people from the USA of America! :-\

to be honest though when i was in SE London and sparred w/ brittish boxers they showed me nothing but respect asa boxer so personaly its who brings what to the ring, not where brought who to the ring ;)

I didn't say ALL fights should be in the US either, but about 80% of all big fights take place in the United States. I wonder why NAZ and Hatton decided to finally come over here huh? I wonder why Winky mande peanuts fightin in Europe, but the big bucks and the big fights over here? Because the vast majority of super fights are over here. Aside from Hatton and Calzaghe who do you have? Woods and Harrison, maybe, but thats it.
