Re: Just another Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Taylor Spinks/Miranda Pavlik
The eyes of the world will be watching Taylor to see if he can stop Spinks . Its teh 3rd light middleweight in a row he is facing and if he fails to stop or drop this one too , his rep could take a nose dive .
Spinks cant K.O Taylor so he is guna have to do something Hopkins and Winky couldnt which is outpoint Jermain . Those guys were possibly the top 2 p4p technical fighters of the last decade and if they cant do it , Spinks stands little chance , but I do think he is good enough to go 12 .

IWO, his rep has already taken a bit of a hit.
Personally, I think he lost to Winky & I'm shocked that Ouma was able to push Taylor back all night long.
I wouldn't be shocked if Spinks makes Taylor look silly based on footwork alone...but Taylor should be able to stop Spinks in the end.

In the end Taylor was handed the first decision against Hopkins & drew with Wright...but I can't say that he honestly deserved either vote...cept for the second Hopkins fight...which he did win.
I agree that Spinks does stand very little chance...but I can see it going the stretch if Spinks puts on his running shoes.

Pavlik-Miranda Preview
03.04.07 - By Jim Amato: On May 19th in Memphis, on the under card of the Jermain Taylor - Cory Spinks middleweight boxing title fight there will be a battle to see who is next in line for a title shot. Undefeated Kelly Pavlik of Youngstown, Ohio will take on once beaten Edison Miranda of Columbia. The survivor should be the next opponent for the winner of Taylor - Spinks. If you're looking for fireworks, Pavlik - Miranda should provide them.
Kelly Pavlik will be 25 years old the night of the fight. He will bring in a record of 30-0 with 27 knockouts. He stands a little over 6' 2," and has a 75" reach. Edison Miranda is 26-years-old. He sports an impressive 28-1 boxing ledger, with 24 KO's. He will be at a disadvantage in height standing 5' 11" but he listed with a reach of over 76". His only loss was in an attempt to win the IBF middleweight title last year losing a decision to dead game defending champion Arthur Abraham. Although he fought the majority of the fight with a broken jaw Abraham won by scores of 114-109, 115-109 and 116-109.
In the Abraham fight Miranda proved that he is a rough customer. Since the loss Edison has won two bouts to put himself right back in the thick of the middleweight boxing picture. A lot of people are predicting a toe to toe slug fest between Pavlik and Miranda.
I see it unfolding a little bit differently. I believe a lot of people are overlooking Kelly's solid amateur background. He was a highly regarded national amateur when he was eighteen and would mix with top notch competition like Jermain Taylor and Anthony Hanshaw. He is not just a punch winging KO artist. In reality he is a very well schooled fighter. Although it was Miranda who has fought for a world title and has defeated a boxer who challenged for the title, I feel Pavlik has met better overall boxing opposition.
Miranda's first key victory was a twelve round decision over Jose Varela. A seventh round KO over aging contender Howard Eastman led to the Abraham fight. Since that loss Edison has scored a sensational one round demolition of Willie Gibbs and a well deserved decision over Allan Green.
Pavlik has a knockout over "Contender" winner Grady Brewer. He outscored stubborn Ross Thompson. He then scored knockouts over Dorian Beaupierre, Fulgencio Zuniga, former world title boxing holder Bronco McKart, Lenord Pierre and rugged Jose Luis Zertuche.
How will the fight go? I see Kelly coming out with the intention of keeping Miranda on the outside. Edison is a dangerous hitter but he is a sub par boxer. Kelly is no Larry Holmes but he does have a decent jab with some pop on it. This might discourage Miranda's wild rushes. Pavlik also has a snappy uppercut that may force Edison think twice before charging forward. Miranda will learn early that he will have to take some punishment to get inside and believe me, Pavlik can punish.
This by no means will be a walk in the park for Kelly. Miranda will connect on occasion and test Kelly's chin. If fact I can see both men hitting the canvas during the course of the battle. As the fight reaches round eight, nine and ten I see a desperate Miranda who is behind on points winging his shots hoping to land a hay maker. At this point, Edison may be leaving himself open to a powerful Pavlik counter. I'm going to pick Pavlik by a comfortable decision or possibly a late round kayo.

Kelly needs to adapt, keep his hands higher. However,I can see him coming in,hands low,on the inside, throwing punches and he is going to get hacked by Edison. If Pantera wins this fight,he is probably a strong contender for fighter of the year already! I want him to rematch Arthur Abrhama! Man I'm excited about this fight!"
I agree. Everyone acts like Pavlik is a one trick poney with no chance...& personally...I think that it's Pantera that is the more limited of the two.
I was a bit disappointed in Miranda's showing against Green. If Pavlik can box, ala Abraham, then he might have a shot at escaping Miranda's power which is the best aspect of his game.
Miranda is a bit to wide on his shots for me & a fighter with game & defense can capitalize on the barn door that he leaves open when he throws. Pavlik's chin is a bit of a question mark for me though...& that's the end game if he get's clocked.

I like Miranda's drive & I like his power...but I don't like the overall picture. As I have stated in the past...he has grown on me & his Eastman fight is what did the most for me in the end. I highly rate Eastman on experience...but age has caught up with him & thus Edison had the advantage...there & in raw power.
If Miranda were to tighten up his game...he'd be someone that I'd get behind (not in an a** bandit way either) in the future...but he's got to work it out.
If anyone remembers or has seen Hopkins in the opening bouts of his career...when he went by the tag of the Philadelphia Terror...there are a lot of similarities. I'd love to see Miranda work on his A game instead of sticking to the power plan...he could be similar to Hopkins of 1990-1993 range. Not so much the tactical wizard that he became...but the 1 round combination puncher...the Terror.
Good thoughts me bwoyo's... :coolclick: s to ya's bof!
I agree, I wasn't that impressed with the Green fight and Gibbs is the definition of chinny. I don't really like to watch Miranda fight, and I don't rate him as highly as a lot of people, but one thing I have to give him respect for is he's not scared of taking any kind of fight. Eastman, Abraham in Germany, then Green, now Pavlik. That's not bad.
I think Pavlik's a bit more skilled but I just get the feeling that Miranda will be sturdier and that will be the difference. I don't really have any idea what kind of chin Pavlik has, it might be good, but I know Miranda's got a pretty good one and he should just catch up to Pavlik at some point though.
Interesting fight though, definitely best of the night. I don't really like Taylor or Spinks much, and I just find it hard to believe that Cory will get a decision even if he fights the fight of his life.

Re: Just another Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Taylor Spinks/Miranda Pavlik
Yeah...Miranda just don't look human. ;D
I was pretty pleased with the reaction that he brought out of Taylor. If I aint mistaken...won't the winner of Miranda vs Pavlik have the right to face Taylor? Mandatory maybe?
Either way...it should be a nice cracker of a match IF it comes off.
Re: Just another Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Taylor Spinks/Miranda Pavlik
I'm thinking we may all be pleasantly surprised at how good this Miranda-Pavlik fight could be. Too bad the world outside us hardcore boxing fans only think of Oscar-Floyd as "the fight to save boxing." There are so many other good matchups coming up.

It did, no doubt about that. Matter of fact, I was pretty shocked when I saw the full page Sports Illustrated cover on the upcoming Oscar-Floyd fight a week before the fight. Happy, but shocked. As with other media, SI has a lot of clout. If they decided to put the upcoming fight on the front cover, all the better for us boxing fans. The fight was good. Not the best fight I've ever seen, but good. If in some way, this makes boxing more popular, fantastic.
By the way, the SI article following the fight was what I would call "mixed reviews." The writer seemed to have the same opinion. Good enough fight...... good for boxing...... could've been better. For pure boxing action, I'm kinda hoping the Pavlik-Miranda and Cotto-Judah fights are much more entertaining, tho.
Good to see you around again, wack. CC back.
