I call it mindless because I imagine very few people examine what they are doing or why. You get taught to do as you are told from a very early age and there is a forced community spirit about it which I think is false. All that nonsence, flag pledge, stand up for our national anthem? Would the Queen stand up for me? Bollocks.
To be fair, at her age she can barely stand up at all ;D

But as great as it was to see all those thousands who traveled to see Hatton-Castillo (and to hear their inventive songs about him), many of those same fans displayed disgusting and disrespectful behavior. You didn't see it on HBO's broadcast because it happened just before the telecast began, but they booed throughout the American and Mexican national anthems. That's like school on Saturday: No class.
I'm not overly-patriotic, so normally stuff like this doesn't bother me... but it still shows a lack of class.
A national anthem is irrelevant to a fight anyway. Patriotism and nationalism are vague jingoistic absurdities. It a guy against a guy. No world war.
They can boo as long as they like. They paid for the tickets. Nothing like a bit booing. National anthems are silly.

....Let me see someone boo the American National Anthem.....it'll be the last song they ever hear!
You don't have to sing along or anything but show some respect....I damn sure respect other countries....it's what everyone is taught as an American now, "Americans have to be nice to everyone".....well I draw the line at people who don't respect us back.
:appl: :army:
CC from me on that.....If I was at an event and someone BOOED the Anthem that would be a fight indeed!!!!!!
I would not disreaspect the Anthem of another country....And If I was next to one of my fellow Americans and they booed the Anthem of another country whil playing I sure as HELL!!!....Would Address it!!!!.....
I am all about good fun and a bit of teasing but that is blantant disrespect......
I also do not go with that Racial stuff either....
Same applies.....If I was next to someone and they started calling out Racial Slurs I would Address it....I don't care what Race or Nationality they are......
AS Wacko said there is no room for that in Boxing...ON this Form or anywhere else for that matter.....
And if there is any of it on this Form...Who Ever it is Will Be Banned from this Site ASAP

Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
Being at an international Wales rugby match in Cardiff when the anthem is being sung is one of the most electrifying spectator experiences in sport. Rugby crowds do not boo each others anthems as a sign of respect ........ please don't band all British people together into one nondifferentiated mass. That's the same as saying someone from Arkansas is the same as someone from New York.
There are idiots in all walks of life and Hatton's travelling fans appear to fall into that category unfortunately. They booed the anthem because they are idiots, not because they are British.

CC 100% Agreed.......And Believe me we have some Americans who would do such a disrespctful thing as well....
But as you stated we can not catagorize everyone for it...

Anyone who comes to the UK to fight one of ours is gonna get hammered during the ringwalk and the national anthem regardless of where they are from.
Football mentality probably but people just do it without thinking and it will always go on.
It's all done jokingly anyway and is impossible to stamp out.
I can promise all of you that it's not at all intended with any malice ;)
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
I apologize if anyone has mentioned this (i didn't have the will to look through 5 pages of posts), but during the Manfredo/Calzaghe bout the brits booed the US anthem.. i was amazed at the poor showing of class! I can understand being a fan of your fighter, but god damn, boo when the oppositions name is called.. not when the anthem of his country is being recited. complete disrespect.

Yep..I especially didnt like that particular event too..
Manfredo was man enough to fight the undefeated champ on his very own home turf with a solid packed out arena full of calzaghe fans and they didnt even grant him an undistrurbed respectful national anthem
Ridiculous really

And I'd boo the American national anthem, too. I can't stand those Yanks.
I would be to if my whole country's army got there ass kicked by a colonial militia too.But I'm on the other side of the world. You Brits are classless Eur garbage. Just look at the Calzaghe Manfredo fight. Wales is close enough.

I don't stand for anyones national anthem not yours, not ours, what's the point of it?
I always walk out or sit down and I don't care what people think. At least I am thinking and not being a mindless sheep or just doing it in case I get picked on for not doing it.
i don't stand up to my national anthem and the national anthems of other countries cause i'm a mindless sheep, i stand up to my national anthem because i have pride of my country and i show respect to others and that have the same pride for their respective countries, but well maybe you don't think about that
Re: Hatton fans booing national anthems?
When i was at the Calzaghe/Lacey fight there was some idiots a couple of rows up booing and saying some racial stuff from the min lacey appeared. As a Brit and a boxing fan i was really offended and deeply dishearten at there dishonourable behaviour. I had come to support Joe as much as the next supporter, but i was also looking forward to getting to see Lacey in action. For a minute there i thought i had walked in to a BNP rally.
I am up for a bit of friendly banter an Jibes as the next person but there are lines you dont cross out of respect for a human being never mind which sport its in.
I dont pay much attention to my own national anthem but i dont disrespected those that do. I wish i could feel that patriotic but they would only tax me on that too. ;D Each to there own as some one once said. ;)
