I hope Joe doesn't start dancing around the ring and get's on a bike. That would really disappoint me :(
I don't think he'll get on his bike as you say, but neither is he going to go and stand squarely in front of Kessler and trade until someone falls over. I think Calzaghe will go in and out lightning quick and pick Kessler off before getting out again. However, if he is well ahead and doing very well going into the last few rounds, I think he might get a rush of blood to the head and his ego will force him to try and KO Kessler, which could make for a tense finish.
Getting on his bike?
Doubtful.
The thing about Calzaghe that befuddles pretty much everyone that's ever climbed through the ropes & into the squared circle with him is the fact that he produces so many angles so quickly in such a small space...& that's the other factor...he turns the entire ring into a phone booth...& that's coming forward or allowing himself to be pushed onto the backfoot.
Joe's volume is going to be the key in this bout...that & Kessler's jab...but I don't think we'll see a lot of that infamous Kessler jab.
He's gonna have to create some serious distance to get his jab working against Joe. While both men have fought some tuff customers...they have solved the puzzles...but splitting hairs...comparing opposition...that's just silly. In Kessler's favor...comparing Joe to Siaca, Mundine, Beyer, or even Andrade is almost as ridiculous as comparing Kessler to Manfredo, Bika, Mkrtchian, or even Lacy. It sounds fun & almost holds a bit of water...but the pool's just not deep enough on either side to induldge a sink or swin option.
Sounding like a broken record at me own expense...neither man has faced the capabilities of the other.
So many variables can spin this fight on it's ear...& that's what makes this one of the most "high-noon" scenarios between the hunter & the hunted...the young lion bumping the old king from the pride. I want answers...prior to the bout!!! You got Joe's speed vs Kessler's power, Joe's experience vs Kessler's lack there of, Joe's angles vs Kessler's jab, & last but not least...Joe's age (which I might add has yet to show 'cept for the mitts) vs Kessler's youth.
Everyone wants to count Joe out...& those that don't agree with Calzaghe's chances or the fact that he is a champion, world class A+ fighter, & his name being tossed around as one of the best in the world are labled maliciously as being a smoke screen by his detractors.
All will be proven on Saturday night...& if Joe were to falter...this is one fan that will not win & cry. I will take my lumps as a Calzaghe fan & I will appalaude the other man in the ring...the true Unified World Champion of 168lbs & I will cheer for him sincerely...because from day one I have been on the Kessler boat...but with doubts...& he has don't nothing more than prove me wrong in my doubts.
Here is the one time that I want him to slide a bit.
Wacko wants a draw. Then a rematch with a Kessler win...then a rematch with a Calzaghe win.
That would be glorious. Of all the bouts that are coming up...I have to admit...being an American boxing fan...Calzaghe vs Kessler is the FOTY for me...& it could suck balls & I would still rate it based on the fact that both men are top notch in my book & both men are gentlemen.
We need more of these in boxing.
Much respect to them both.
