I don't think the fans overrate Hopkins, but I think he overrates himself. He thinks he's a massive draw and can make demands that are just plain stupid.

The guy is in no way over rated hes 40+ put on a good show against a rising star twice (Taylor) and beat the man @ lightheavy with ease. He has got a lot of names on his resume (Tito,DLH,Winky,Tarver)
he deserves props for what hes done and JC wouldnt out class him hell if he leaves his chin out like in the Pavlik fight Hopkins could probibly KO him. The only reason i favour JC over Hopkins is workrate.

i'll need to improve my grammar, but CALZAGHE does what needs to be done. people criticise him and say who did he beat? He beat three unbeaten challengers and not just beat them but outclassed them. And these were not fat welterweights they were genuine 168lbers, but when he beats them people say oh they were overhyped. Its like hopkins can beat the likes of Segundo Mercado, Steve Frank, William Bo James (who had lost 3 of his previous 8 bouts and only won two of his next seven bouts before retiring), Simon Brown who was shot, overweight and lost his next 5 bouts, Felix Trinidad ok Trinidad was a great boxer, but that was as a welterweight and light middle and the same can be said about Dela hoya.
Calzaghe never ducked anyone and beat some great opponents. Hopkins couldnt even beat Bika, Bika would destroy him as would most world class boxers at 168 or 175

It's not so much the grammar thing, it's things like your last paragraph. B-Hop has a fair few fans on this forum and by saying that you open yourself up to criticism. I'm not a B-Hop fan, but I respect his achievments. My issue with him is his belief that he firmly believes he has the drawing power to dictate the terms he wants. He's clearly very talented, but nowadays he's fairly boring.

Kessler and Lacy are his two big names. These two guys wanted to prove themselves, therefore they went and sought out the best in their division, even in a foreign country, where the best had home court advantage.
Calzaghe on the other hand during his reign knew that his challenges weren't the up and coming boxers but the established boxers around his weight division. Boxers like Ry Jones, Hopkins, Tarver, Johnson, Hill etc. Calzaghe never was hungry to challenge these fighters to the point of calling them out and going to these fighters home country.
Now that Calzaghe is about to wrap up his career, he still wants the privilege of completing his career without getting off his stool and climbing the mount of direct challenges. This is why I have to ask why should he have the privileged of being hailed as great by not taking up the leadershipi roll of challenging his contemporaries to prove himself, even to the point of going to his contemporaries home and dethroning them.
Heck, even Zab Judah fought Corey Spinks in St. Lious, and Hatton is about to fight Foyd in Vegas (Floyd's home town). These fighters know that true glory comes through sacrifice. Hopkins fought Trinidad in MSG (knowing fully well that NYC is Puerto Rico Jr.)
Now this is not an indictment of the skills of Calzaghe. I believe he will take Hopkins. But I don't believe that he should have home field advantage in this one. He is a cuddled champion and a cuddled fighter.

You could argue that Calzaghe only ruled because Jones, Toney and Mccallum wrent there..... If Jones had fought Joe when Joe first got his belt it would have been all over for Joe there and then.
