Re: Elbows are blatant fouls and yet Floyd was allowed to use it all night long.
I don't see the big deal with Cortez. It was a very rough fight on both sides. Cortez pointed Hatton for almost hitting behind the head. Big deal- was it the last time Hatton hit behind the head? No? Well then it amounts to the same thing, doesn't it? Cortez warned Mayweather for using the elbow but for the most part Floyd was using his forearms to push Hatton off or hold him at bay because Hatton was crowding him. Floyd knew he needed a certain amount of distance and he created that by pushing Hatton away. It's funny how people are bedeviling Floyd for his fouling but have little to nothing to say about Hatton's. Oh and absolutely nothing to say about Cortez's poor refereeing of Hatton's bout with Castillo. He punched him in the nuts no fewer than 3 times but everyone celebrated the huge KO over a faded fighter (who probably quit because he had no hope at a fair fight).

The Floyd hate is so thick here that it clouds men's minds. How does one duck a fighter when there's been no talk of the two fighting by EITHER camp?
When Cotto attended Gatti-Mayweather he had zilch to say after Arturro got his beating. He's never said anythign publicly about fighting Floyd but all of a sudden it's a known fact that PBF avoided him. Pull your head out of Cotto's @$$ and see the situation for what it is. Mayweather is only about fighters who can create a huge payday. Until THIS year Cotto has not been one of them. Cotto still isn't on par with what he can make with a De La Hoya or a Hatton. A mere competitive fight isn't enough for him. Hey, sad for boxing, but I wouldn't do it for any less than I could get.

I actually did reference this on another thread. I said i felt Cortez in each fight severly protected the fighter whom HBO would make the most money out of.

Then why not protect Hatton more? Hatton's got a huge following and is going to be more active than Mayweather in the coming year. He already has an opponent lined up while Mayweather, before the fight, announced he won't be doing anything inside a ring for the next 2 years. I don't think HBO put a bug in Cortez's ear; I think they do value integrity even though they do have bias. But in the case of December 8, their bias was toward Hatton.

oooh controversial :)
Re: Elbows are blatant fouls and yet Floyd was allowed to use it all night long.
Yeh Hatton draws the big following but the british fans aint paying HBO to watch the fight.
I'm pretty sure HBO didn't put a bug in Cortez's ear and while the commentators may have shown bias towards hatton (not even sure if they did) it's a bit difficult to suggest anything else was in hatton's favour. The commentators do not solely represent HBO. It's higher up than that.
To be honest this goes into a debate that i don't even want to go into because a) it cannot be proven b) it's quite controversial and c) hatton wouldn't have won even if his dad was the ref
Re: Elbows are blatant fouls and yet Floyd was allowed to use it all night long.
It aint no ticklin contest.....hatton didn't bitch so why is anyone else. He knew what floyd was gonna do, and floyd knew what hatton is known to do. Hatton doesn't need any excuses made for him.
