I have spent some time reading about Tiger as there is little footage of him in action, his record is certainly impressive with big wins over Torres and Benvenuti, I have seen more of Ike and i like watching his fights, I think he was given a raw deal in the DLH and Forrest fights. You are probably right that Tiger is number 2 though. Tiger fought all the big names in that era and sometimes twice. Shame he died so young.

I have read excerpts from The life and times of a boxing immortal, what a movie his story would make.! I didn't know about the robbery against Griffith, worst decision in boxing history says the Ring at the time. Dick Tiger is a legend and was a great man.

Dick Tiger - The Life And Times Of A Boxing Immortal by Adeyinka Makinde is only a recent release and is still available, check this out, Tiger was outspoken and a proud African and the book covers his story thoroughly both inside and outside the Ring.

Thanks Mick for the tip on Tiger, i knew he was good but not that good, i think i was clouded by his KO loss to Foster, ( how good was Foster to have stopped Tiger in 4?) I still rank Nelson as the number 1 African fighter but i have no problems with Tiger being ranked equally alongside him .

I did some research for the greatest African fighter here's what I came up with...

Fair enough but what exactly vaults Mugabi into top P4P status.
Mitchell,Put all of the politics and F!!!!d up policies of South Africa at the time aside,Mitchell made a record (at the time) 12 defenses."Draw" in unification with Tony Lopez in 1st meeting was a great classic war and Mitchell took him in the rematch...both in Lopez's hometown.
To each his own but aside from being a murderous puncher and giving Hagler some tough spots that was really Mugabi's peak.He turned his back and lost with a busted eye against Duane Thomas after Hagler fight.He did win title ko1 Jacquuot but lost it shortly there after. Mugabi VERY exciting,Huge banger and good story but I dont see him over Mitchell as P4P,no way.
Some can argue the Quartey placement vs. Mugabi..I wont.Quartey Way to inconsistent and inactive for me.But that jab could give anyone hell.

I don't see how you could because except, for Mugabi giving Hagler a tough fight he never beat one single good opponent in his entire career.
