Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
I like Kenny, if it weren't for Kenny there would be NO mentions of boxing on Sportscenter, bottom line anywhere, he has really been a lead boxing guy and these days those make you thankful.
Anyways, Johnson can get away with that crap he does and you see he has talent but in no way is he putting that talent to great use. He's like an old James Toney, who does exactly what he wants to do in a round but still leaves it close in the mind of the judges.
There are judges out there who would have scored that fight to Terry Smith. There was a 96-94 scorecard right?
Johnson just does barely anything at all. To be honest about it, he's a spot fighter, he fights in spots and to be honest he was picking Smith off pretty well. Accurate punches with speed and he places them nicely. But as a spot fighter, you have to either have power to make your spots stick in the mind of judges or better yet end the fight, or you need to be sure to have lots of spots and place them right. Johnson did a pretty good job at coming back at the end of rounds from doing nothing but he still just gave away rounds off pure inactivity. I hate to see that in a heavyweight, especially one who has as good of handspeed and defense as Johnson appears to have.
So now let's look at the American heavyweight prospects and try to rank them. I'll go ahead and include Chambers. So out of all the American heavyweight prospects, where do they all rank amongst themselves?
Chazz Witherspoon
Jason Estrada
Travis Walker
Malik Scott
Kevin Johnson
Chris Arreola
If I'm missing any let me know but that's the crop as far as I know it. Very average bunch
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Chris Byrd lost a lot of weight.
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Turned it off after four, yawn. Checked in a few times when I couldn't find any good commercials.
Johnson needs to lose some fatty, he needs to be on his toes and off television.
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Johnson is doing his best to be the next guy you would pay to see get KTFO. I almost wish they would give him a shot against Wlad just to see him ktfo. That crap about not showing everything he's got is a straight up lie. He can't show what he doesnt have and thats heavyweight power.
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Actually, I like Brian Kenny for the most part, except when he has guests or is out on "special assignment" like he is now in Vegas. He gets all wired up and acts goofy. Like him though when he is alone in the studio; good voice, good reporting, good analysis. Just irritating at times. Better than Kreepy Kellerman though:p
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Brian Kenny might be my favorite ESPN anchor whatsoever, he's good when they do Sportscenter unlike most of the people they have there these days who think they're so clever. Only a few good ones left really.

Am i the only one who thinks johnson thinks he is way way better than he actually is ! I can't wait till he moves up in comp just a tad, he is gonna get absolutly destroyed one night and not too many people are going to feel bad for the guy. He is really fast for his size though.

You aren't the only one who thinks he see himself as the next Ali:rolleyes:.
Not only will people not feel bad for him if he gets destroyed; people probably won't remember anything else about him but getting destroyed. I know I won't.
Re: Friday Night Fights: Kevin Johnson - Terry Smith
Sounds like my impressions were pretty much the same as others on the forum. I'd never seen this Johnson guy before, but I wasn't too impressed. He's got a good, fast jab and can move some. But he's way too in love with his own skills, and clowns way too much. If I were paying good money to see this fight live, I'd be pissed as hell. Here's hoping someone KTFO's Johnson.
