This in my opinion is one of the biggest jokes a sport has ever seen. The worst part about it is it's my favorite fighter and I'm going to have to watch it.
BS, utter BS!!
I'll never understand why some people are so against this fight.
Pea, I honestly feel this fight is a huge mismatch. Like it's been said, Pac started at 106 and De La Hoya has been as high as 160. Pac fought at 130 at the beginning of 2008 and will fight at the end of the year at 147? I think he's messing around too much with his weight.
I see how people say Oscar is going to struggle to make 147 but Pac took 9 rounds to knockout a natural 135 pounder who he hit at will. How much will it take from him to hurt someone MUCH bigger than that. He isn't outboxing Oscar, so power would have to be Pac's edge which I don't think he has either. Pac will have to rely on speed and speed only.
Also, after this fight, he has to move back to 135 to fight one of the real lightweights or maybe to 140 to fight Hatton. Fighting at 147 and having to lose that much weight for his next fight won't help Pacquiao. I think of what happened to Roy Jones after beating Ruiz may possibly happen to Pacquiao.
I think winning this fight for Oscar means exactly as he said of avenging all the Mexican fighters who lost to Manny. I don't think he really thinks Manny is the biggest challenge out there. It is a somewhat safe fight for him that will make him some serious cheddar. Manny is just too small of a fighter for me to give De La Hoya credit for beating.
If Pacquiao wins, it will be an upset in my eyes due to the physical advantages De La Hoya possesses over him. But then, I honestly feel this, people would think if Manny can beat Oscar, then that means he can fight Floyd. That is the absolute last person I would want Manny to share the ring with.
Sorry I started to rant a little bit, but that's what I feel about this fight.
Re: Sources: De La Hoya, Pacquiao agree to Dec. 6 fight in Vegas
Pacquiao really is going to get beat. Hell he's fought Lightweight once against a bum and now he's jumping 2 divisions to face a naturally bigger guy. Oscar late KO IMO.
Re: Sources: De La Hoya, Pacquiao agree to Dec. 6 fight in Vegas
I had not come to the forum in long time and this is the first topic I watch... I am really disappointed with De La Hoya. I see him trying to take advantage fighting the biggest name, but the smallest opponent. I am not sure what is in head at this moment, but in my opinion he is trying to get recognition as the best p4p fighting Manny. But, even if he wins, as he should fighting such as small opponent compared to De La Hoya size, he will be far from that recognition in my opinion. If De La Hoya wins, he beats a small fighter that is moving very rapidly in weight, and he losses... my friends... shame on him. For me De La Hoya losses even winning the fight...
Although De La Hoya should win, I do not discard that he may suffer a dangerous overconfidence fighting the Mexican "Macho" style due to his size advantage and fall to the canvas...
De La Hoya no tuviste los cojones de pelear con un Cotto o Margarito...

Very wise and on-target post from my friend, PRP.

Who do you think these boxers will cheer for? PAC or Hoya?
Who do you think these boxers will cheer for? PAC or Hoya? (Vote in the poll, you can choose several boxers.)
1. PBF - he was wildly cheering for PAC (even jumping at ringside) during the 2nd Morales fight. I think he will be cheering for PAC again in this fight...
2. JCC Sr. - I think Chavez Sr. doesn't like Oscar and might be cheering for PAC...
3. MAB - Barrera recently broke his ties with Golden Boy Promotions. He might side with PAC in this fight.
4. Vargas - Fernando Vargas walked and cheered for David Diaz in his fight with Pacquiao but after PAC convincingly beat his boy in a fair clean fight, Vargas might cheer for PAC this time around.
5. Margarito - His challenge was totally ignored by Oscar and by being a Top Rank boxer, I think Margarito will be cheering for Pacquiao.

i think you're forgetting the stamina factor. diaz has that which oscar don't.
Re: Who do you think these boxers will cheer for? PAC or Hoya?
Chavez Sr. said Mexicans will root for Pacquiao...
"a poco cree que los mexicanos lo van a querer; al contrario, le van ir a Pacquiao."
Translation:
"cree little that Mexicans are going to want the contrary, they will go to Pacquiao."

That's highly probable... PAC has the rights to call out PBF if he wins this fight... Specially if he wins it convincingly...

Good call. I don't know why I didn't think of that...

Pacquiao enjoys a lot of advantages over Oscar... Oscar only has the size advantages over Pac... All others going Pac's way?
