Puerto Rico is a US protectorate, however both PR and Manhattan are incorrect.
OK, surprised X didn't jump on this one. It has got to be the Big Island, Hawaii.

Correct
Re: A little history/geography quiz
A question for non-Canadians. Most Canadians know this. Not sure about the rest of the world.
What happened at the École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989? What was the name of the prominent person?

Yeah man, perhaps Canada's worst day in my lifetime. Some nutbar with an axe to grind against feminists took an assault rifle into the school, separated men from women, and killed 14 female students before taking his own life. That really fucked a lot of people up. The name Marc Lepine lives forever in infamy for Canadians.

I was relatively young (relatively old compared to a lot of the other members of this board) when this happened it did get some pretty big coverage stateside. I mean, I'm sure when Columbine happened it was all over the news there as well right?

Oh yeah, absolutely on Columbine. OK point taken. It's big news anywhere. But very rare this sort of incident in Canada, compared to the States. So it stands out more here maybe. What was bizarre about Columbine is that the perps were basically just kids.

Re: A little history/geography quiz
Re: A little history/geography quiz
OK, I'l get a second question going...
What was the Potsdam conference?
Re: A little history/geography quiz
The post WWII meeting between Churchill, Stalin and Truman to agree how to treat Germany.
here are some of Uncle Joe's best lines .......
"Death solves all problems - no man, no problem" JOSEPH STALIN
"If you are afraid of wolves, keep out of the woods" JOSEPH STALIN
"To choose one's victims, to prepare one's plans minutely, to slake an implacable vengeance, and then to go to bed ... there is nothing sweeter in the world" STALIN
"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic" STALIN
"Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don't allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?" STALIN
"The people who cast the votes do not decide who wins an election. The people who count them do" STALIN (perhaps George W had seen this one)
Re: A little history/geography quiz
