I just watched the fight again sober (i really need to be sober more often).
Barrera wasn't getting beaten as bad as I drunkenly thought. I missed the lefthook at the end of the 2nd that shook Khan and had him grabbing on for dear life :o. Barrera done Khans legs in the 4th too (which i had originally seen).
I never realised how badly the cut HURT Barrera. His back peddling to the ropes allowed Khan to pressure him for a good minute and completely swing the round.
This is a silly thing to say but - without the cut and the premature forced ending we could be talking about a different result. Khan is only ever one punch away from kipping.
Thank you Fenster. See. We weren't just nuthugging.
I take back the venom I was going to pour on you;)
Shame
I'd have enjoyed it. ;D
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
I think eric morales vs khan could be a possible next fight. Morales is washed up, is a huge name like barrera, wants to make a comeback and still has enough left the tank as seen by the diaz fight. Should sell well aswell PPV.
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
khan has ducked most of the good domestic fighters, he needs to fight them before even thinking about a world title, maybe murray or alex arthur, even thaxton, hes been avoiding them for years,
But id also like to see a prescot khan rematch
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
I wouldn't want to see a rematch. I don't really feel like having to watch Barerra get beaten all the way to a decision. At the very least this cut made his career continue on. But if he rematches Khan then Khan will win again but with no excuses this time and that will be it for Barerra's career. I don't want to see Oscar vs Chavez II
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
Line the boy up to face Joan Guzman. ;D
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
I would put him in with Prescott, then we will see if he has learned from his mistakes he made last time.Plus Prescott is a young hungry fighter wanting to prove that first time it wasnt a fluke against Khan.
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
I am surprised that people want to see Khan fight Prescott again, when in boxing history has a fighter been given a rematch after being knocked out in less than 60 seconds previously? I say throw Khan in the deep end with Katsidis and see how he goes. Might as well learn the hard way and then tackle Prescott again in 12 months time.

Katsidis is exactly the kind of guy I think Warren will keep Khan away from. Khan would beat him easily on points if the fight lasted twelve rounds or KO him but Katsidis can punch his weight and is bound to land something big at some point. I just don't see Khan in the ring with a proper lightweight who can punch unless it's a huge money world title fight, so I reckon another one or two past-it superfeathers or feathers with a marketable name before they take a real risk with him. I love to see Khan-Katsidis though.
Re: Amir Kahn Opinions & Who Should Be Up Next?
David Diaz or come backing Eric Morales would be a good start. But fighting Palus Moses, Breidis Prescott or Edwin Valero would determine if he is the next big star at the lightweights.

Valero would be way too small for khan at 135
Katsidis keeps getting a mention as it makes a hell of a lot of sense for khan to both take the learning curve he`ll get from michael and establish himself furthermore within the division.
For once Warren has got it right in that he is keeping khan active with the promise of a world title shot at the end of the year. So a summer showdown at the MEN, london arena etc against someone like katsidis would be a good outing for khan and a great name to put on his CV.

If Valero is too small for Khan, then what the hell is he doing facing Antonio Pitalua. 140lbs would be stretch for Valero but 135lbs is about right. And lets not forget the rummer from when he was sparring De Lar Hoya. Valero has good power... If Khan does face him, it will be hard fight and we might possibly see a venue on the big Island.

I could give you the simple answer and tell you that Antonio Pitalua is not Amir Khan ;D
At 135pounds khan would have a far superior reach advantage and be way stronger than valero
