Draw your own conclusions about what side of the political spectrum you find people who are unduly concerned about the morality or values of others.
In answer to your question, the paragraph above describes something that I don't like, however I am not fooled by their use of the term family. They can driop their use of the word, but it wouldn't really change much. And no, I don't choose my leader according to his/her particular morality or religion or belief of what a family should be, and whether it matches mine, and I particularly oppose people who would impose their beliefs in these areas on others.
Just to make sure I am following you...Morality is not an issue you take into consideration when voting for a candidate? Really?
To me the simple act of voting is in essence an effort to impose beliefs on a group. We vote for politicians that we believe share a similar ideology, in hopes they will enact laws/policy favorable to us and our belief system.
My original comment was to express skepticism at politicians who define themselves by their promotion of family values. When you examine closely what they are saying, it's usually something more than just support of family, it ties in with other things. Support of family can mean different things to different people. You will be hard pressed to find a politician who does not support "family". They all do. But they don't all define themselves that way. Which is why I think it is usually bullshit for a politician to attempt to define or differentiate themselves as being pro-family.
Our discussion seems to have morphed into something bigger, which was not what I had wanted, but ok I'll take a shot at it.
We seem to differ a little in our definition of morality. Sure, when I vote I choose a party whose ideology matches mine. That doesn't mean the leader's moral or religious beliefs need to match mine, because typically those are things that do not have a big effect on my life.

From your post I believe you are speaking specifically of issues like creationism, prayer in school, gay marriage, abortion etc closely tied to the religious right. I don't really differentiate between religious or political ideology. To me there is little difference between a bible thumping southern baptist or a tree hugging secular progressive. Only opposite ends of a irrational, ignorant and uncompromising coin.
OK, well I do differentiate between religious and political ideology. Politics shouldn't be about religion. It's a little thing called separation of church and state. As for morality, Pierre Trudeau, who was a very influential Canadian Prime Minister, once said "The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation". I agree. I don't equate environmentalism with religion, concern for the environment should transcend religeous beliefs. Unfortunately environmental concerns do not seem to transcend political ideology, but that's a different story. You haven't given any examples of those you dismiss as tree huggers, so I won't comment, except to say that I would not be surprised if you see more tree-huggers than I do, but that's a different story.

No,
she is stupid because she is lacking in intelligence and makes the most horrendous public goofs. God knows how she is when the cameras are off. It doesn't bear thinking about. This has little to do with my political views.
Not your best work Miles.
Agreed.
It was the type of insightful comment Palin is prone to make really. The press had a field day with Bush, Palin is such an obvious and easy target too. The republicans would be a laughing stock if she ran for President against Obama. Just my perceptions though.

Hilarious if it happened but then again we laughed when the Governator got elected.
Wow - let's have someone who knows nothing about politics who has taken drugs and sexually harassed women and put him in a position of power.:-\

if I'd added, a career drunkard, picked up for disorderly conduct, a DUI, cocaine, car crashing, made his girlfriend get an illegal abortion (at the time in texas) abortion then coming out as prolife we could be talking about Bush.
Re: Truth is stranger than fiction - The Sarah Palin Chronicles
....see I would have guessed Ted Kennedy but then again you left out the way he killed a lady whilst driving drunk
Re: Truth is stranger than fiction - The Sarah Palin Chronicles
I really would like to see limits of 3 terms for senators and congress. I think the political machine simply ruins the good intentions that many people have when they first come into political office.

I love Clinton. I wish he could come up here and run my country. He'd fit right in.

Well it wasn't for lack of trying
CGM, Joe Biden has just started, I'm sure he'll give us more fodder than Dick Cheaney gave the liberals

Don't put too much onto my remark about Cheney. It was as much a remark about Kennedy. People make mistakes, have accidents, bad things happen, You can't define their entire lives by that.
Anyways, I've thought a few things about Cheney, but stupid wasn't one of them. I haven't paid close attention to Biden, so I can't say about him. He does have plenty of experience though. Palin I have paid some attention to. And that is how I have formed my opinions of her.
Re: Truth is stranger than fiction - The Sarah Palin Chronicles
I know a few Republicans who are dead set against her but a guy I used to work with actually said yes when I asked if he'd rather have her as President than Obama, that just boggles my mind. And yes I know obviously Republicans would vote for almost any Republican over Obama but Sarah Palin? Seriously?
Running our country?
It would be funny if it wasn't so horrifically depressing.

Dude would probably vote for Bonzo the chimp before he voted for a democrat.
I like to hear about her foreign policy experience with Russia. I guess being able to see them on a clear day counts for something. But then again, it's all about creating jobs, so I guess we can't complain.
Re: Truth is stranger than fiction - The Sarah Palin Chronicles
....yes creating jobs, how's that working out for Ol' Barry?
