Not really the first time. Mayweather sort of hinted at Gatti's past and present problems that no one wanted to talk about but wanted to make him look like the bad guy by spilling his personal business out there.

Anyway Gatti as a boxer entertained me, what he was as a person is something we'll all never know.

If it comes out that this is turned into a justifiable homicide as in she killed him out of self defense then its gonna tear his reputation to shreds anymore.

But these stories were out before about him having substance abuse and drug problems and such but it just wasn't as big of news as if lets say Mayweather had done it. It was there but it sort of went unnoticed, sort of like Kendall Holts issues. If a story doesn't make money then people won't cover it like a big deal. Agree with almost all of that, apart from comparing it with Holt. Gatti's personal life was ignored because he's a likeable guy & because of what an exciting fighter he is. Kendall Holt's get ignored because frankly there's not enough people who give a sh*t. The more popular (not famous) a fighter, the less heat he will get, Mayweather had some allegations against him that weren't even proven that he got way more crap for than any of these guys for whom there were much more solid allegations. It's also related to the profile someone keeps, Hatton contrary to what he likes to portray likes to live a very unhealthy lifestyle in between fights hence it's ignored. Cotto doesn't live that much healthier a lifestyle, however he's smart enough to not be doing it in the glare of the media or inviting people round to watch him get drunk. Obviously none of that is to the extremes of this case, but that's basically why some stuff gets reported & others don't IMO.

A fair amount of posters share that view. I'm not expecting public figures to be crystal clean in their personal life however I will lose respect for them, the same as if I knew someone personally who acted this way.

I understand if people want to refuse to believe this kind of behaviour because it then calls your judgement in to question and no one really like to be in the wrong. For me it will always taint their memory.

The thing about this is speculation, so I'm sort of withholding my judgement on Gatti's character. There are people in this world that can separate what a man does and how his character truly is.

I always felt that Gatti was a great ring warrior, even if it comes out that he abused her. My response isn't going to change on how I view him inside the ring. Like I've said there are people out there that can separate a person's accomplishments and a person's character. To me gatti's personal life has no bearing what he did inside the ring.

And justifiable homicide is something like self defense, not killing a man when he's drunk and laying in his bed, some people can spin it all they want how premeditated murder is alright, but to the majority it doesn't fly that way.

The US legal system is built on litigation. If Tyson paid $$$ to the woman he was convicted of raping & didn't go to jail, people would have used it as evidence of his guilt. I don't believe that MJ did anything with Gavin Arvizo, that woman was clearly out for money. However, the people around him clearly advised him to pay the family of Jordan Chandler the exact figure they demanded, meaning there surely must have been something they wanted to keep out of court. Many consider that evidence of Jackson's inappropriate behaviour with kids.

This was something Floyd alluded to in the build up to their fight.

He said it was hypocritcal that HE was being labelled the villian, when Gatti had so many characters flaws himself.

This is an interesting tidbit from Arturo's friend.

Jeremy Filosa, a broadcaster and friend of Gatti's, told CTV News everyone in Gatti's circle of friends knew there were serious problems in the relationship.
"She vandalized his car, she threw stuff at him. At one point, she gave him a black eye. People were making fun of him, saying, 'Here's a world champ, and his girlfriend is beating him up,'" Filosa said.

Meanwhile, Gatti's sister Anna-Marie discussed the violent nature of the couple's relationship.


"I think she was planning what she had to do, and she kept my brother from us because we would have seen what was going on...She always provoked fights and she always said, 'I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna kill you," said Gatti, recalling that the entire family had warned Arturo to stay away from Rodrigues.
