The state of modern metal is tragic. Gojira's latest album The Way of All Flesh is ok. The Sleeping Eye by Iron Age is ok too.

Merriweather Pavilion by Animal Collective is an interesting album.

I'll check out that Beach House album. Anything from folky (well I don't know if that's true, I like some low key bands like Fleet Foxes) to whatever alternative means, punk, etc.

Beach House is a "dream pop" band (the most ridiculous name for a genre ever). They sound like a modern Mazzy Star.

I hadn't heard of it until I looked up Beach House after hearing them on the university's radio station. They're on the SubPop label too, which is always a bonus.
