he was miles past his best by the time he fought lacey
so he is a very respected fighter and very definitely world class, if you name britains top super middle weights reid would be up there but I don't think he would be the cream, and I personally think that groves could outbox him, I wouldn't put my house on it tho

Yeah, he was known for being strong and having a good chin and that first knockdown seemed to ruin his punch resistance for good. Never knocked down previously amateur or pro, in sparring or competition. 130 odd amteur bouts against the best in the world. Lacy cheated. The ref was calling stop 3 times, Reid turns to the ref and as hes facing the ref Lacy turns to Reid and lets rip with a huge right hook that smashes in to Reids chin. Reid looks back at Lacy then delayed, goes down on a knee then the ref deducts a pount from Reid for usng the head but says fuck all to Lacy for punching when he had called both to stop.
Mayweather got shit for hitting Ortiz but the ref hadnt called stop.
Reid also gave Magee his first loss in Magees backyard dropping him 4 times.
I say that Groves is being massively over rated now because of Froch looking shit in the first fight. Groves chin will haunt him against any punchers and Reid was a puncher.

In fairness Ross is right on a lot of points. Groves could be very overrated. His problem is he is so biased to fighters that he fails to see any argument for the other side.

Froch struggled with him. He stopped him but Magee caused him problems.

I thought he was brilliant! I loved his attitude and the fact he could take a shot and had power.
He wasn't the greatest but was very good and anyone who wanted to mix it he made for a good fight. Even the Lacy fight he showed glimpses of what he could have done after a few rounds and he warmed up. His problem around this time was inactivity. When he fought Froch, a year or so before he beat Jesse Brinkley after another long lay off. He was then sanctioned or whatever its called to fight the also come backing Glen Catley as an eliminator for the british title that Froch had. Cately didn't want to know and retired rather than face Reid. So Reid missed out on a nice warm up fight. I dont believe he had the resilience and energy to beat Froch at that point but a warm up against Catley would have made him sharper and a lot more interesting fight against Froch.
Reid v Lacy, go to 5.20 in amd watch the blatant cheat by Lacy. Even the American commentators are disgusted by it and the refs actions to Reid. Listen till about a minute after the knockdown as they still mention it.
