Re: Alycia Baumgardner vs Mikaela Mayer- Shields vs Marshall Espn+
Marshall is teak tough and would be a nightmare for most, but Sheilds is on an entrely different level. Great fight to end the evening.

I think a lot of our friends across the pond misunderstand this. It is part of the culture of trying to get a rise out the opposition. We are actually dissapointed you don't boo ours. Pantomime stuff. It is like at the football fans will resort to sledging a national player they may idolize in an England shirt if it will wake up the opposing fans.
National anthems at the Boxing is daft though anyhoos, outside of team competitions like the Olympics, it is one bloke or woman against the other. Personal one on one war, not the international jingoistic competition they like to pretend it is.

I'll only watch basketball unless it's a USA dream team at the olympics (again Steph Curry walking down the street in UK ? Nothing. LeBron ? That's a tough one. But even he would be largely unoticed in the UK)
Basically I only watch women's boxing unless it's cream of the crop, the very best and to be fair Clarissa and Savannah are the very best. Was a good fight. Sky tried EVERYTHING to make Viewers believe that not only was it a close fight but wanted you to believe that Marshall had a chance of winning on the Cards as if a Robbery for Marshall would've been OK
The shorter rounds and the shorter length of the fight all favor the "boxer" who can avoid the puncher and win the early rounds with speed.
That is true if it was 3 minute rounds and 12 rounds Marshall size and workrate may have made the fight closer.

Big part of why boxing is niche. Boxing fans know how boxing is, but sports fans tune in for a major event and hear something like that, it becomes their opinion. UFC has it figured out, they cheer and yell and everything is the greatest and people go along with it. Tell people 2 guys with 8 losses each are great and watch them talk about best fighting the best. Meanwhile you can look at Colby Covington, been around forever, and has only fought like 2 of the top 15 in his division. One of those 2 having 16 losses coming in having lost 2 in a row. But best fight the best because they say so.
Boxing needs to learn to support boxing

Also forgot to say, congratulations to you all for putting on a show of support for these women. It was well deserved and great to see the ladies sell out O2

It is an interesting contrast good points. They the ufc benefit (maybe suffer to a degree) from coming at everything as one promotion and single company. Whereas boxing gets separated into our tribalism/favoritism between networks and promotions. House fighters get all the stroke and commentator bias can be glaring on the mic. I don't think Bradley was there, but he almost comes off with some macho insecurity bs. He has known his fair share of brutal fights and competitiveness so can be a part too. But it was a solid fight and hate to see a fighters "heart" called into question. Don't get me wrong it's refreshing and needed to have reps and commentators call 'bad' when they see it. Don't try to hoodwink the fans and make out like everything you're seeing is the absolute best 24-7. Goes for fighter performances, judges, bad officiating, shitty match making etc. But to many just fall in line not wanting to upset the apple cart. Guess that's why I miss Teddy ;D. He didn't care and would call it exactly like he saw it be it the good bad or the ugly.
