Just so I get this straight...in your opinion...other than the Calzaghe fight, a draw with Soliman, & MAYBE the fight against Beyer...what makes him a bum? Because clearly...he isn't.

Also...if you start comparing apples to apples...Ouma stayed on his feet against Taylor...but was knocked out by a legit bum named Silva & beaten by a much lesser man in Karmazin.

The only fights that Warren ever said that he would bring Joe stateside for were against Hopkins & Jones...both of whom outpriced themselves before anything was signed.

Agreed that Joe is a homebody...but then again...so are Roy & Hopkins...the only two fighters that Joe has ever claimed worth coming to the U.S. for.

Honestly...with HBO backing Joe now & them selling the fight this far in advance...I think he'll be here in 2007 unless something stupid happens...like he loses to Manfredo or Taylor loses to Wright (which I believe he will if they rematch) or some lesser foe.

All that being said...it's still a fight I really don't care to see.

I just don't think that Calzaghe's gonna get any respect unless he defeats Kessler...which I believe that he very well could...& that's no slight to Kessler who I also think is a hell of a fighter.

Credit to JT for neutralizing Oumas punching volume by maintaining a distance between them..... And since I'm being honest I'll also metion I was falling asleep... :-\

Hes just not exiciting he hugged Ouma at times where there was no need for him to hugg. He keeps fighting with his hands to the side, I don't know a single throwback fighters who fought like that. Could you imagine JT & JC both in the ring just starring at eachother both with their hands side by side.... What a fwocken snoozer!!! :(

Ouma was game and within seconds of the 1st round you could see the size/body/power advantage he gave/gives up at 160, he needs to take his azz back to 154.... I also gotta mention that JT didn't event stagger and or really hurt Ouma. JT did connect a lot of solid punches on Ouma but one would have thought that JT had enough power to at least drop the smaller Ouma...

Performance IMO was good by JT, I personally don't fancy him but hey! to each it's own....

Agreed. Taylor is definently not a throw back nor is he anything close to the "HBO Super Star Status" that they keep marketing him as.

Again...I think soon enough we'll be seeing a new champ at 160lbs.

Taylor's more pressable than a pair of cotton slacks.

CC, for the DRBR Wacks....I havent seen the fight yet, but im inclined from my knowledge of Taylor to think that Calzaghe can beat Taylor handily....

Credit to Ouma for going the distance....middleweight is not his natural weight and he didnt even have a warm up fight to build into the weight...

Isn't Cliff Couser the dude who thinks he's Mike Tyson's half-brother? I seem to remember I read a write-up about him in ESPN Magazine a few years ago.

HBO was talking about how Jermain was putting a beautiful boxing performance and dominating Ouma. He won every round but he wasn't dominating doing it. And as an Ouma fan I am overjoyed ;D

For some reason...Ouma has never really appealed to me.

I don't know...he's just so sloppy & all over the place...but I do think that he held up pretty well against HBO's Undisputed Middleweight Champion. ;D

Dissappointing performance from JT. He was being backed up by a smaller Ouma,needs lots of space to throw his shots which are slow and telegraphed,rarely throws combos and on top of all of that,was holding Ouma and didn't hurt Kassim so along with the other factors,is JT's power over rated? I was looking for a good performance,I lke the guys attitude but I really don't see what he has been working on with Steward? He is open to counters when he throws his right hand,as he cocks his left hand back so is wide open down the middle!! It was strange to see the small Ouma acking up the much muhc bigger Taylor and if I was Winky Wright,I'd want a rematch asap!!!

Ouma was dissappointing too,known for his work ethic yet I didn't see anything there although he showed heart to keep going forward but he needs to get back to 154!!!

Having seen JT's last few fights,I have to say,Im HUGELY dissappointed in Bernard Hopkins for not beating him..Hopkins is better in almost every aspect,so why the hell did he not win? Especially the second time around!

JC would abslutely wreck Taylor,his activity level would be way way way too much for JT especially as he backs up so much voluntarily,I mean Ouma was just walking after him and JT would just walk backwards! Calzaghe's speed would bedazzle Taylor!

That's the thing I don't get about people defending Taylor here. Everyone keeps saying that this is what was expected...I mean...he just backs up too much & it's almost as if he has no clue what a defence is.

I don't know...I think that Jermain is a great case for that wack ass show Myth Buxters. ;D

I asked if moving up two notches to fight a bigger and good puncher was an act of courage or stupidity, and I answered it was courage. But actually I was being nice to Ouma and thought it was an act of stupidity. I was wrong. He showed lot of courage and heart, and I think Ouma fans should be proud of him. He took that awesome uppercut on the 10th pretty well. All he needs to develop is some power in his shots - easily said than done, though. He should definitely go back to where he belongs and probably will be one of those to reckon
with in that weight class. Just a bit more skill and power should make him great, but I guess that 'bit more' part is the most difficult part.

As for Tayor, he definitely has a pretty big punch and I was, as most of the folks here, leaning towards a KO win for him but just couldn't spit out the word KO here. I've had an impression in his last fight that he lacked a killer's instinct and this fight bore that out. It also strenghtened my impression that in his fight with Winks, at the end rounds, Taylor looked a bit like Tarver couple of rounds before his 'no mas' to Hopkins, though Taylor was not that helpless. I think Emmanuel Stewart chose to turn him into a counterpuncher and he probably had no choice because Taylor naturally is not a charger but a 'backer' and you just can't force him to go on slugging in if he ain't got neither the will nor heart to do so. So I bet he'll be fighting like that for the rest of his career.

Well anyway, congratulations to Ouma and his fans for the show of big heart by taking it to the bigger and stronger punching champion; he's got nothing to be ashamed of. And, a win is a win, and a unanimous one at that, so congratulations also to Taylor and his fan. He did outbox Ouma, didn't he, so what are we complaining about.

Taylor has alot of talent, hes just a lazy fker at times - possibly down to the fact that he doesn't actualy like the sportof boxing... I hate to say it 'coz it means im agreeing with something Jimm watts said, but for someone with the talent taylor has, but doesn't use it enough 'tis the only explanation i can think of.

He will be in for a long hard night if he goes into the ring with calzaghe and doesnt give 100%

Well Kassim tried hard and it wasn't a beatdown. It was dissapointing in a way but he did better than a lot of people thought he would. I swear though his defense seemed better at times when he was coming up. Either way, time to get back down to 154. 160 is all wrong.

you can hold, but when the ref tells you to break you break, you dont just hold and ignore, he should have beeen warned about that more then 3 times, i would have dqd the motherfucker, you hold, fine, but i say let go and you dont... THATS NOT GONNA HAPPEN >:mad

just want to say that you cannot use the karmazin and silva fights as a measure of how good ouma is. he was waaay off against karmazin he looked like he was sick, and i didnt see the silva fight obviously but from what ive read it was a big fluke. ouma was absolutely on there to fight and win against taylor, even though he wasnt able to get his punch output really going because every time he planted his feet and tried to punch, taylor was nailing him with huge power shots. taylor did mess up though, he went for the ko early and spent too much energy, giving ouma a chance to get into the fight late. thats how i saw it.

I wasn't using those fights to grade Ouma...I was saying that Taylor couldn't drop him & the other did.

Hate to bring this thread back to the front of the board again...but I'm just sitting here watching Taylor Ouma & Taylor Wright & comparing those two to Taylor Bunema & Taylor Eduord...it's painfully apparent that Taylor can not cope with someone who is not afraid of his power.

Also...when his power doesn't equal a knockout...he goes into disappointment mode & hops on the bike.

Honestly, IWO, Taylor would get his ass handed to him by the heavy handed Miranda.

The thing that frustrated me about the Ouma fight was after the first three rounds or so, Taylor gassed, and Ouma would outwork him for the majority of the round (wasn't landing big punches but was landing at times-totally ignored by Lampley-and Taylor was doing nothing), and then in the last twenty or thirty seconds Taylor would go all out and steal the round. Ouma should have just worked the first two minutes and thirty seconds of the rounds and then stayed away (Sturm did this to some extent versus ODLH) but he didn't and Taylor would be able to land some big punches and take the rounds.

I tend to think that Taylor's a better overall fighter than Miranda but backing up straight with his hands down is gonna lead to him getting caught and it will just depend on if he can take the power. Best thing for him would be to take Miranda out early if he can.

Here's the thing...Taylor's a better boxer than Miranda...but not a better fighter.

Know what I mean?

Taylor can jab & is more complete...but he's not got the determination that Miranda seems to have, nor does he have the power.

I'd actually love to see the fight. I had no desire in the past...but now...different ball game. I want some defenitiveness & some clarity at 160lbs & I don't think that it lies in Taylor.
