Time to see if Taylor's chin is decent enough to carry him at 168. Pavlik swats like a hard hitting light heavy weight. I cant wait for this one. Pavlik by tko. Go buckeyes

After Taylor feels Pavlik's power and pressure he will surely fold, Hopkins and Wright are great and they back up Taylor, but neither possessed Pavliks power, Pavlik will knock this guy out.

Taylor's last 3 opponents were all left handers. So Taylor had a hard time making his jab a factor. That won't be a problem against Pavlik. Taylor's jab will be in his face all night. Taylor by stoppage around the 7th or 8th round

I could see Pavlik having trouble with the jab, But Taylor has never fought a boxer of Pavlik's size, power and pressure. And the same can be said about Pavlik never fighting a guy like Taylor, It honestly could go either way, But I'm rooting for Pavlik to stop him.

Im really looking forward to this fight. A HUGE fight for both men.
Pavlik is exciting and hopefully Taylor will come out of his shell.
Pavlik has every chance of pulling this off. Taylor has underwhelmed all too often and hasnt performed since BHop (if you can call that a performance). Pavlik isnt shy and will force a fight.
Pavlik is the hungry man, he will win.

TAYLOR-PAVLIK: THE PRE PRE-FIGHT FEATURE... by Jim Amato
September 29th, 2007...Will this be the day that puts Youngstown, Ohio back on the fistic map? Undefeated knockout artist Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik of Youngstown meets world's middleweight champion Jermain Taylor who is also unbeaten. This is the fight at 160 pounds that the fans wanted to see. Kudos to the management of the fighters and the promoters for putting this together. It reminds me of the old days where a true champion meets the real #1 challenger.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAYLOR, PAVLIK PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES...
Pavlik: Emanuel, I can’t get mad at your prediction, you’re supposed to say that. I will take no chances, there is no playing around in this fight. I always put my best into it and I can’t wait until September 29th, and there will be many more after that.
I’m 25, I’ve got the experience also. If he wants to come to fight, that is better for me. This is a great fight for boxing. Styles make fights. I predict a win. I predict pain.
Taylor: All of the talk motivates me. It motivates me when I get up early in the morning to run. That’s all I think about. I am going to train for 12-rounds and I am going to win this fight. When all is said and done, I am going to win. Then after I whip this boy, we’ll see what happens.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last Page
Jermain Taylor "I'm expecting a lot of fireworks in the ring with Kelly Pavlik. This is my kind of fight."
SCOTRUN, Pennsylvania, September 4 - With just a little over 3 weeks remaining World Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor has been enjoying the peace and quiet he's finding in the mountains of Pennsylvania, where he's training for his September 29th title defense against Kelly Pavlik at Borardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. But what has Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KO's) most excited is the prospect of a slugfest with hard-hitting Kelly Pavlik. Taylor relishes the opportunity to swap power shots with the top-ranked contender in his showdown..
The bout which is being billed as "Throwback" is being promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Top Rank Inc. "From a style standpoint, my last couple of fights were wrong for me, but they were fighters who stepped up to the plate," Taylor said.
"Kelly Pavlik is a fighter , just like me. He comes to fight, no running, no holding. It's about time. People are going to be surprised by what they see on September 29th. I'm expecting a lot of fireworks in the ring with Kelly Pavlik. This is my kind of fight."
Taylor has been training in the Pocono Mountain resort that trainer Emanuel Steward has used to prepare so many fighters. Taylor has trained for many of his fights in Miami, Florida and recently Memphis, Tennessee which is only a few hours from his home in Little Rock, Arkansas. It's quiet and peaceful in the Poconos and that's to Taylor's liking.
"Miami and Memphis were OK, but this is the kind of place where you can really train, focus and prepare yourself," Taylor said. "I like this atmosphere for training. There is nothing to do here but train, think boxing, go fishing and train some more. That's it. And that's good."
Kelly Pavlik who was in a brutal slugfest with Edison Miranda on May 19th in Memphis, has earned a shot at Jermain's title. It's the type of fight Taylor hopes he'll get when the two face off in Atlantic City on September 29th.
"I hope he chooses to fight me that way, but whatever he does, I know I'm going to win," Taylor said. "Slug, box. It don't make no difference. The outcome will be the same. Miranda didn't have all the talent people thought he had. I knew he was just all mouth. I know Pavlik is strong, but I know I am stronger than him."
Tickets, priced at $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50, are now on sale and can be purchased at the Boardwalk Hall box office, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420 or by visiting

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last Page
Goin for taylor by stoppage.
Undoubtedly Pavlik is more powerful, but he is also a great deal slower than JT (and all of his previous opponents.)
I think this will provide him with the opportunity he needs to stiffly box Pavlik with a strong jab hook right straight system, take him into deep water and stop him between 8 and 10

Pavilki is about a foot taller than JT's last two opponents. I'm very curious to see how Taylor reacts to being the smaller man for a change.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last Page
I think a lot of people here are jumping in the Pavlik wagon just too fast! JT is the more experienced one and the btter boxer, a big fight like this is going to motivate JT. I think Pavlik is good fighter but he come's forward and that will make JT look great! Spinks made JT look bad because JT didn't use his size because he was afraid of looking bad.
I say JT by a surprisingly wide UD. But I admit he might have som truble if he trys to trade with Pavlik.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last
JT's more experienced, but then again he's been in against nothing that's like Pavlik. That's what makes this fight so good, we're goin to find out so much about both fighters.
I see it as being close and competitive for the first few rounds before Pavlik starts finding his range and wear JT down. Going for Pavlik bby late KO or close decision, though close decision's do tend to go Taylor's way.

Good Point! cc
But almost everytime someone says "he's been in against nothing that's like him" they tend to be wrong. ;D
Just watch ODLH vs PBF, Pavlik vs Miranda, Lacy vs Calzaghe and so on..

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last Page
I was torn here. For me it's either Taylor by decision, because if we go to the cards, Taylor will likely get it no matter what happens in the fight. In fact, I think if he got knocked down in every round but lasted the distance, the judges would still find a way to gift him a decision...or Pavlik by KO/TKO.
I think Taylor is worried about the outcome of this fight, with rematch clause being at Super-Middle etc. Taylor is a tough man to break down, but I think his lazy attitude will catch up with him, Pavlik will keep coming at him and will wear him down with bombs around the 9th.
Pavlik by TKO in round 9 ;D

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last Page
I'm still going with taylor. I will continue to pick taylor unless i'm proven wrong by somebody that faces him. Taylor has fought bernard hopkins, who the hell has pavlik fought for this to be a no question pick for him?

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (News On Pavlik's Training Camp for JT, Last
We all know that Pavlik is a very adaptive boxer. He can adapt to alot of diffrent styles to almost every opponent. But how do you adapt to this. Pavlik is so long and rangy so its very hard to get in close. Even if you do he dose alot of damage. With his legnth and power he is very hard to cut off the ring. Pavlik also has to deal with a quick fighter. He needs to throw more jabs and fake alot of punches to try to get his man to commit. The word in Youngstown is that Pavlik is using very good sparing partners. Which is something that he dose alot. He goes through the, like a baby goes through pampers. I think that Taylors chin will be tested. Pavliks has already been tested and passed with flying colors. I think Pavlik by a mid-late KO or TKO. Taylor will not want to use the rematch clause.

I wouldnt say Miranda was untested. Who do you call Arthur Abraham. Miranda minus pionts taken won that clearly. Taylor one the other hand robbed two fights. In my opinion Taylor is 26-2-0.

you are referring to one of the B-Hop fights and Winky correct?
As a note: Winky was on the wrong end of his fight against JT AND B-Hop.

If you look at my post, i said he's fought bernard hopkins I didn't say beat. He's also fought wright. Whether you believe he won those fights or not isn't the point, the fact of the matter is he has the experience of fighting those guys and thats more important than a spotless record.

By your logic, Emmanual Augustus would have gone undefeated....

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (Keys to Victory Video for Both fighters Page 13)
First of all, nothing i've said on this thread has anything to do with that guy period. Whether you believe taylor stole the decision in those fights doesn't really matter because they were close and he made it to the decision in the first place. If he didn't win them, they were close losses.

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (Keys to Victory Video for Both fighters Page 13)
What I meant was jsut because you have faced top notch opponents doesn't mean you can beat them. Although experience does help, alone it is not enough.

I never said it was.
If I was to reword it, I guess it would say this: The confidence from knowing you've fought and beaten (or robbed in some people's eyes ::**) the best out there is better have than the confidence that you've never been beaten.

Whilst that is certainly a valid theory,I disagree somewhat. Taylor will know he faced big names before and "won" and Pavlik certainly hasn't faced anyone of B Hop or Winky's stature but styles make fights.
JT could have fought B Hop and WInky 10 times each and be ultra confident but it still won't prepare him for variables like Pavlik's power, strength and stamina which are far superior to B Hop's and WInky's. Experience helps but I don't think it helps as much as some say.
Perfect example is JT facing southpaws. People say he looked bad because he faced 3 southpaws in a row but surely in the combined training camps he could have adapted using his experience from having faced them.Just an example.
BTW,I'm really really getting hyped for this fight!!! If Taylor wins,he could still be the star everyone thought he could be at some point and would lay to rest his past poor performances but if Pavlik wins I think we have a new star in the making!
And a side note,if JT has problems with southpaws, when he moves to 168 after this fight, keep him away from Calzaghe! He would get slaughtered!

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (Keys to Victory Video for Both fighters Page 13)
This might be a bit of a ridiculous post and I just thought of this, but it seems to me that knowing that Pavlik is completely ambidextrous, and that (arguably) Jermaine Taylor's best weapon is his jab, AND that Taylor has struggled against southpaws - would it be expected that Pavlik would train to fight at least a small part of the fight as a lefty? Kind of the reverse of what Hagler did against Leonard. I think it would confuse JT and possibly throw a bit of his gameplan out the window, which could be pivotal as he doesn't seem to adapt very well during fights?
Just thought about this while I was sitting in class daydreaming and I thought I'd throw it out there for you guys to rip apart ;D

Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (Commercial for the Fight & New Pavlik Audio
I think Jermaine Taylor is just a far better boxer than anyone Pavlik has faced, is comfortable in that he has been in several big name fights for the title and dont forget, JT can still punch, probably just as hard as Kelly Pavlik does. Taylor's defense is much better than Miranda's was, so I dont think Pavlik's pressure will bother him much. Rather it will give him opportunities to counter. The few counters Edison Miranda threw in close landed pretty cleanly on Pavlik's face. Taylor is a much sharper and more accurate puncher than Miranda and could do big damage by counterpunching against Pavlik's straight ahead onslaught. Pavlik never really goes any direction but straight forward and I doubt he can fight too well going back. If JT takes the momentum and gets Pavlik in trouble enough to get him to back up, he could be in real trouble. Taylor by UD or late round TKO.
-
Re: Official Taylor Vs Pavlik Poll (Commercial for the Fight & New Pavlik Audio LP)
Sucks that they are both about to move up, I hope the winner can at least try to unify against Abraham. The winner is the man at 160 no doubt. We will find out if Kelly can box with the top guys, and I think we all know he packs a punch. Still stabding by my prediction of a mid round KO for Pavlik maybe around 6-8th.
