Im glad wladdy got the k'oed even though it seem like thomspon just wanted out of the fight. I don't think a real punch landed, thomspon just wanted to quit. I like wladdy but it seem like my hope of him being a great exciting heavyweight unified champion, ain't gonna happen. :-\
Lets face it guys, the heavyweight division totally suck!
No, a punch definitely landed.

I just found out the punchstats. Can't believe Thompson landed more, those things are so misleading at times.
lies, damn lies and statistics.
I was totally frustrated with Thompson lack of movement inside the square ring.He seemed to lose heart as the rounds drew longer.I thought he was supposed to be hungry for the challenge:rolleyes:he even seemed to dive to the floor as he got caught breifley with a right hand...as if he just could'nt be arsed.Shame really!!!!!:-\
I took an imediate dislike to Thompson as he looked like a short haired Audley Harrison. Wlads jab n grab tactics didnt impress me much, Im being kind calling it a jab too.
Wlad Haye? Well Wlads obviously the favourite and I'd hand on heart say that he would do nothing for a while but try and fend off, grab, whatever until Haye had shot his bolt and then it would be as many right hands as HAye could manage before falling. Will be great to watch though.
Thompson completely bottled it when he realised he couldnt compete, falling over, pretending to twist an ankle, Im sure he was crying at times.
Wlad did what he did and props to him for that, I wasnt impressed though, this was supposed to be the worlds best heavyweight.
Performance of the night came from the referee in the Banks Rossito fight, he was very good.
Enzo would probably beat Banks.
Uhhhhghhh, After the 4th round I shut the fight off and waited for it to be over so I could fast forward throught the corner talks... It was round after round of Wlad sticking his left glove out straight and winding it in a circular pattern, parrying jabs and holding and Thompson throwing punches from awkward angles(which would have worked in his favor had he had ANY POP) and doing virtually no damage the whole fight... even the KO was just kinda like whatever... I felt like Thompson had pretty much given up anyway. I am so frustrated with the HW div.
I had a few people over my house cuz we had all gone out to dinner together... My friends Sean, Travis and I were watching the fight and the girls we were with all fell asleep.
The HW div is all but disgraceful.
I don't want to even fuckin hear it, Lyle... The fight was garbage and although Wlad is the most dominant HW, being a king among bums still makes you a bum. I wish Lenox Lewis would come out of retirement, age, ringrust and all and fuck this bum up!
Wlad used to be an exciting fighter that I could get behind.
I don't thik we'll have a dominant HW other then him for a while. If I ever hear Wlad's name among the greats I'll throw up all over myself.
Prepare yourself because he will be up there....no one will want to admit it but he's a very good fighter sure he doesn't do what Louis, Marciano, Tyson, and Foreman do but he still KO's guys none the less. He's got a better KO percentage than TYSON...he has more wins than TYSON.
Put Wladimir in with some decent all-time heavyweight competition that gave past greats their tough times and Wlad still wins....for argument's sake we'll conceed Wlad loses to the top greats and we'll just focus on who those guys beat to make them great: Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Frank Bruno, Tim Witherspoon, Michael Moorer, Earnie Shavers, Trevor Berbick, Michael Spinks, Renoldo Snipes, Michael Dokes, Jimmy Ellis, Earnie Terrell.
Sorry but Wlad beats all those dudes....maybe you give Shavers a puncher's chance but #1 he's a righty and #2 he's TINY.
For Wlad to be a great he needs to unify and defend the titles a couple times and he's going to need some actual rivals, so far it's just Sam Peter and he disposed of him pretty easy.....David Haye, Odlainer Solis, and Alexander Povetkin should be good names for his record.
Lyle, I hope Sasha fights better than Sultan did. It would really help Wlad I think, ironically, if he struggled a little with a fighter and came out with a victorious KO.
I think the Thompson fight really opened up Wlad's offense....going to the body, using the uppercut....hopefully he keeps using those tools to start breaking guys down faster like Lewis did
Lyle, you always make good arguments and it's hard to find fault in them cuz Wlad DOES win... and he KOs these guys...
I'd have loved to see Wlad fight Lewis... Not even a prime Lewis. Lenox would light him up and I'm not even a Lewis fan.
I'm hard on Wlad... I know I am, but I expect more from my HW div. Where have our large, fast, quick handed, high output bigmen gone? I just have an issue believing that THIS is the best out there. Look at heaveys of the past that would fucking FIGHT eachother for christ's sake. Granted that many of Tyson's early wins work against tomato cans but I hate watching the slow plodding HWs of today fight.
This is said EVERTIME Wlad has a fight... I wish there was some type of dynamic fighter out there that would dethrone this kid.
Wlad is downright INFURIATING to watch. I watch cuz I feel like I must... This is the most prestigious div isn't it? Not anymore.
Wlad couldn't get a paperview fight is he KOd all his following comp.
We as boxing fans sometimes see fights and say "He did his job"... "He won the fight" and the such.
What the fighters sometimes forget is that above and beyond anything sports is a form of entertainment and if the people go away then there's no point in you being there, fighting alone in a basement.
Every single time Wlad thew ONE PUNCH the crowd in Hamburg would cheer... It was hilarious... It was like, "thank god!"
Those people should find their way to a Katsidis, Vasquez, Marquez, Pavlik, Cotto or Margarito fight to see what it's supposed to look like.
...that engaging is not a BAD THING!
This is boxing and his pattycake style is fuckin rediculous.
He's a cowardly lion among sheep.
Whatever. I want to see if he can win a crowd over outside of Hamburg the "Boxing Meca" of Europe...
I was thinking as the ring walks were happening.....Rocky 4 anyone? Wlad looked real focused and Thompson "looked" ready. Turns out Thompson wasn't ready, he gave a non performance after about 5th or 6th. Don't know if he was trying to survive or what, but I think those rights got him thinking twice. Really Thompson showed he doesn't have knockout power, he was hitting Wlad good but couldn't really hurt him. Wlad looked sharp, but definately needs to expand his offense of jab straight right, ocassionally throw a bodyshot....he needs to work on being more versatile. Now he needs to fight a title holder and move towards unifying.
Didn't you see the Corrie Sanders fight? They showed the highlight pre-fight. ;D
When are you guys going to realize that Wladdy is so good he makes everyone else look so bad? The man has much more talent than you're giving him props for.
I am a very unbias person and I give credit where credit is due. I beat up on Wlad cuz his fights are excruciating to watch but there is no doubt in my mind that he's the man at HW.
None the less, who has Wlad fouught of any substance that you can really say, "Yeah, he just Hopkins'ed his ass..." Who? Botha? A blown up Chris Byrd and then an Old version? Maybe an old Ray Mercer or a plodding Jameel MCcline? How bout a 38 yr old Cory Sanders or an out of shape Lamon Brewster(1st time)? How about possibly an untested Calvin Brock or maybe Ray Austin... Sultan was just damn afraid of the right hand... almost pitifully. Then we come to Tony Thompson who used to spar with Wlad who fell into the sparing partner role just like Steve Forbes did against Oscar...
Who are these powerhouses that Wlad is making look bad that look GOOD normally.
I'm not blaming Wlad for that though. It's not his fault the div has nobody of substance. Anyone they put in front of him he beats for the most part and although he doesn't look good doing it he is KOing these guys...
But PLEASE... PLEASE, don't say that Wlad is so good he makes these guys look bad. Cuz most of them are lack luster shot or overhyped fighters to begin with...
;)
Agree with Pride, Wlad was a much better fighter a couple of years ago. He has not improved at all and in fact is only really hard to beat as opposed to taking the division by storm which he is easily capable of.
Wlad has had some tough fights....Sultan tried to KO Ray Austin and therefore opened himself up to being hit and FLOORED vs Wlad Sultan waited to counter and Wlad being smart wasn't about to let himself get countered.
Thompson was like a gigantic Winky Wright he had his guard up virtually the entire time and yeah Wlad was frustrated to fight him because very few of the punches were landing flush as they usually do BUT Wladimir finished Thompson and so therefore he should get SOME credit for KO-ing a guy #1 with a very good defense and #2 a guy who had never been knocked down much less KO'd.
I don't understand this ....Wlad KO's Ray Austin and has shit talked about him, Wlad gets a UD vs Sam Peter (RIGHT AS PEOPLE SAID WLAD'S CAREER WAS OVER AND SAM PETER IS THE UNDEFEATED POWER PUNCHING HEIR APPARENT) and has shit talked about him, Wlad KO's Tony Thompson and has shit talked about him.
What could Wlad do to make you not talk shit? Who is there out there to fight that will actually FIGHT Wlad and not just stand there and have gigantic punches repeatedly crash off their noggins? Who's left?
Sam Peter: fighting Vitali
Chagaev: injured
Valuev: fighting Ruiz
Arreola: not ready
Haye: not ready
Povetkin: scheduled to fight Wlad next
And if Wlad KO'd all those guys back-to-back-to-back-etc ....people would still post bullshit about how Wlad isn't great and isn't even all that good and how they are wishing for someone to "dethrone him"
Well Pride, you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets filled first :fyou:
Wlad is the greatest heavyweight champion of the modern era. He makes other people look bad. Very bad.
I dislike Wlad with an extreme passion, but I'm indifferent about Saturdays fight, Thompson is so awkward he makes for an ugly fight, so I dont dislike Wlad anymore than I already do based on that fight... He showed some grit by getting in some exchanges and paced himself good while absorbing some decent body shots.... I want the Haye matchup to happen sooner than later..
