I guess wladimir shoulda retired after being ktfo...look at him now utterly dominated the division after some ko losses at around the samme age as khan is. Stupid remark by froch, khan has the attributes and speed to where he shouldn't be getting taged that often...
he needs to work on his defense and controlling distance and what to do when hurt, he can come back from this.
It's one thing to get knocked out cold like Amir was against Prescott, and another to be knocked down 3 times, bounced all over the ring, and clowned by Garcia. No disrespect to Khan, but you can't train a "chin", and getting the shit beat of you doesn't improve your game. You also can't "train" someone to be a smart fighter, you either are or you aren't, and Khan is about as dumb as a mud fence.
Khan still might be able to do well against lesser competition, possibly even pick up another trinket, but as soon as he steps up the comp, and faces someone with determination and power, his chin and brain will fail him.
I guess wlad was a stupid fighter who became smart??? No you can change your fighting style, hell wlad wasn't ever knocked out cold he'd always get up and do the same flailing over the ring...khan needs to change his style to fit his attributes he's quick enough that he shouldn't be takin the majority of shots he does, he might become a boring fighter but its all about the wins
I've always thought that Wlad's chin issues were more about a lack of stamina and/or heart, plus he has a phobia about "gassing" (gasophobia) and getting KTFO. Fear often times comes from what you know about yourself, and it's not necessarily a fear of what your opponent will do.
I wouldn't say that Wlad has gotten any smarter as a fighter since he got clowned by Brewster, but he adjusted his game, worked on his conditioning (with the help of Manny Steward) and improved his defense. Wlad doesn't get hit often and it's almost impossible to hit him with a clean hard shot.
Khan is a tough kid, has a ton of heart, and some really good boxing skills, but he allows himself to get hit with and/or takes big shots during many of his fights. And when that happens, Plan A flies out the proverbial window and there is no backup or Plan B. Like I said, Khan's chin and lack of ring intelligence will always be his Achilles heel, especially when he's in with tougher competition, such as Danny Garcia.
I guess ill just have to agree to disagree, I really think khan can adapt and change his fighting style he's only 25.
It's all good bro, after what I saw of Khan in the Maidana and Peterson fights and the asswhippin' he took Saturday in the Garcia fight, I just don't see Khan ever being able to hang with the big dogs again.
cheers

It turned out to be not very long at all. With regard to the fight itself, goes to show you that timing can nullify speed. Am I correct in saying that Garcia may be the best current prime Puerto Rican fighter (I know he was not born on the island, but he is of descent)? He's got to be up there. What's next in line for Mr. Garcia? Juan Manuel Marquez? Marcos Maidana? Timothy Bradley has exited the division permanently for welterweight, otherwise, Timothy Bradley?
General Observation: Wasn't yesterday a brilliant day for boxing? Two entertaining fights; two uncontroversial endings. :appl:
Lucas Matthyse is the #1 fight to make.
Barring that, Josesito Lopez if he goes all the way back down to 140, JMM, Peterson (if he can get things back in order). I
I'd favor any of those guys to beat Garcia.
Second-tier possibilities: Maidana, Judah. I'd favor Garcia in either of those fights.
My guess is we get a fight with Zab Judah next. Hopefully we do get a fight with Matthyse within the year. Daddy Garcia says they want 3 fights in the next 12 months.

with how many years of fighting the same way? Some fighters are adaptable and can stick to a game plan others can't. And time and again I've seen fighters swtich to a different style that once under pressure crumbles. You need some level of discipline & smart under pressure to do that.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Just heard Khan comment back on Froch saying that Carl is jealous of his success, that he has more fans and is fighting in a better and more commutative division.

You can bet your life Carl is jealous of his 'success', who wouldn't be? Compare the two records and see who should really be the top earner.

froch gets respect of fight fans.
khan gets KO'd
besides, khan got shy of $1million usd for the garcia fight. i understand froch was getting at least $1milli plus ppv $$$ for the super six fights. sounds pretty even.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
To give Khan credit round 4 should not of happened.
IMHO fight should of been stopped after the first knock down, if you can not put your hands up on a standing 8 count you should not be in the ring.
Entertaining fight throughout.

Froch has clarified it by saying if it happened to him at his age and that at 25 Khan has many years left in the game. Still think there is no love lost between them.

Good to see that Froch has a future career in politics available to him.
It's not a U-turn, it's a "clarification" of his position.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
I don't think Khan gets back. I see the mentality of a warrior, no doubt but that's writing checks your ass can't cash. maybe forged off early doubts but his defense and focus as well as chin are cashed out.
I've got to be in the minority but would really like to see Lopez vs Garcia, battle of the legit upset winners?!

Lopez vs Garcia would make a good fight, i'd love to see it.
As for Khan, i've always thought he was overrated and overhyped, in otherwords, he really wasn't that great to begin with.
I believe Khan is as 'good' now (at 25) as he's ever going to get, and after getting his ass handed to him by Garcia, that ain't saying much.

I'm with you -- my short list for Garcia opponents on another thread was 1) matthyse, 2) lopez, 3) JMM -- all of whom I'd favor. 4 and 5 would be Rios and Judah, both of whom I'd favor Garcia against. Rios would probably be a good fight though (caveat: I still haven't watched the Abrillo fight).

No doubt. I don't see any reason Garcia couldn't duplicate what Abril pulled off and got robbed as a result of vs a Rios who still refuses to listen to his body and move up. Rios needs to reevaluate what he wants to do in there because while he looked like a guy who just phoned it in vs Abril and Murray. It'll be interesting to see where Garcia goes, he's not everyones taste and its early but I think he'll be around a bit. Surely they will strip him of a trinket though.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Khan is not the only champion to have a glass chin and a fragile ego. The best example was Floyd Patterson who went in hiding after the loss to Sonny Liston. It was so devastating that he lost in one round twice. The moral was that he had to get on his feet and he earne a shot against the boxer with the biggest mouth ever, Ali. His back was injured but he called on his skills to survive and he did not foolishly behave like a slugger against a boxer but Ali taunted him and stopped him because there was lots of trash talk. Khan let his 0pponent's father get into his brain. Floyd had genuine emotional problems and came from the same background as Tyson but Floyd wore beards an hats to hide in public dealing with shame but he came back better but older. Khan believed his own press and that my friends is bad. This means more than just going back to the drawing board. This is a heart check because every mistake he made was in anger fear and embarrassment and his game plan ignored.
