I mean Shaq would be a world boxing champion if all it took was being huge.
I'm with you in the fact that a fight like this is a disgrace to boxing, but I can't act like Wlad is the only guy in the history of boxing to do this shit. This kind of garbage is why people don't give a fuck about HW boxing.
Ah, I misunderstood.
Wlad is not the old guy to do it, but his whole style is based around, essentially, cheating, and he does it blatantly and with no consequences. It's incredibly frustrating.
I don't think that's a fair assesment of how he usually fights, hell do shady shit here n there like most other fighters that can get away with it in most his fights but not to this extent in this one he shoulda been dqed or somethin

Re: KLITSCHKO v POVETKIN - HBO/BOXNATION - Saturday Night CHAT THREAD
If Povetkin just cutted the ring properly instead of chasing Klitchko, he might won some rounds
That was a garbage boxing performance and great stamina show by Povetkin
Great pro boxing skills by Wlad.

Oh wlad definitely don't give a fuck he only cares about the w, and usually its justifiable and I don't mind his style normally, but this one a dq would have been justified it was just blatant, hell he should give mma a shot has a good wrestling base couple that with his boxin n he should be champ

This was undeniably an extreme example, but Wlad holds more than anyone in the sport.

That's another way of lookin at it haha, but yeah I guess if your wlad n you get away with the shit he did tonight no need to change it works perfectly well but imo should have had 2pts deducted by fifth, agt which point he would have actually boxed n gotten sasha out of there and sparred us the remainder of the shitfest

Re: KLITSCHKO v POVETKIN - HBO/BOXNATION - Saturday Night CHAT THREAD
Props to Wlad for the win. Povetkin showed big heart was better than I originally thought. HBO's crew was pathetic. Kellerman and Roy were just hating nonstop....that's why everyone is switching to Showtime.
"Wlad's leaning, he's pushing" eat a dick you bastards Povetkin is short and in a crouch of course his head is going under Wlad's arm.
Win #61 and HBO boxing can screw off

Pacing myself, nah I thought he had a run of three that were clear as day and all Wlad did was try to dry hump his shoulders, plus point deduct.

That's half the story Lyle. As I've said before as a defence mechanism no problem. If you cant avoid getting into that position and cant get yourself out that's your look out. But jabbing as a means to get close enough to grab hold and lean on? That's pathetic.
-
Lol
I thought haye had issues in staying up in his fight..Wlad just manhandles guys and throws them over judo style.
Deontay wilder needs to fight Wlad like a 3 round fight in late 2015.

wlad actually deals easier with people his own size or close to it i think

It's not hating to comment on somebody repeatedly cheating and being allowed to get away with it.
-
Shit fight, shit ref, shit attitude from Wlad. If he showed any desire to stop him he would have. Even in the 7th when Povetkin was out on his feet he insisted on grabbing and leaning. It's pathetic. A few small changes would make people think he could be the best heavyweight ever but is far to cautious and is terrified of getting knocked out again

Re: KLITSCHKO v POVETKIN - HBO/BOXNATION - Saturday Night CHAT THREAD
Obviously Wlad knows his shit he's been the champ forever but damn he can be boring to watch. Probably why no one knows who the heavyweight champ is. Fights like that are frustrating to watch. Hopeful Cotto will make up for wasting a chunk of my life watching that snoozefest.

The only other fighter to constantly lean and throw his opponent to the floor is fury and he is nowhere near as regular as Wlad
-
Re: KLITSCHKO v POVETKIN - HBO/BOXNATION - Saturday Night CHAT THREAD
Wlad sucks so bad he had to cheat like a mofo just to win....in a straight up fight with klit not loving on povetkin all night, the russian woulda had a chance, but povetkin was fighting two guys in that ring....

Are you new? Have you ever looked at any thread from one of Hatton, Hopkins, or Fury's fights?
All these fighters get flack for how they fight and deservedly so. Wlad deserves all the shit he is getting for this performance. That was ugly, boring, unnecessary, and it bordered on outright cheating for most of the fight.

Why shouldn't the fans of the sport comment on blatant and obnoxious cheating? Because boxing is known for it's impartial and fair referees?

It's the same in EVERY sport. Don't expect the ref to save you

Not to the same degree as boxing and, regardless, that changes nothing. The ref is there to enforce the rules and when someone cheats as blatantly and regularly as Wlad did in this fight, then the ref absolutely deserves to be criticized for his performance, as does the fighter. Any fan of any sport is going to point out these kinds of things.

Yes to the same degree....you apparently haven't seen a soccer match in a while or a baseball game. Povetkin had 12 rounds to do anything and he did nothing. He lost end of story.

I don't watch boring sports, so no, I have not seen any soccer or baseball games in a LONG time :p.
Regarding Povetkin, I said earlier in this thread that he was complicit in what happened today. By passively accepting what Wlad was doing and not fighting back with his own dirty tactics, he allowed what happened to take place.
I'm not complaining about the result at all, just the way Wlad 'fights' and how it reflects on a sport I still occasionally consider myself a fan of.

Thats what they count on Lyle...just pretend it didn't happen everyone. And Hell no boxing fans should never silence there outrage over the BS we sit through on a weekly basis! Sport needs to count itself lucky it still has enough fans who care enough to complain anymore rather than tell it to piss right off and walk away.

Here's the deal, if there were rules being broken and it wasn't getting called then Povetkin should have deliberately fouled Wlad back in retaliation but he didn't.

Can you not divorce yourself from fanboyism for long enough to have a rational discussion about this?

That's my view regardless of who is fighting man. Sometimes you get the calls sometimes you don't, thems the break buds

Fair enough, I guess. I still strongly disagree with that perspective, especially in a sport as fundementally broken as boxing.
I'm just tired of all the frustrating things that continue drive me away from boxing and today's fight seems like a glaring example of many of the things wrong with the sport.

I never needed my parents to tell me there was no f'kn Santa Claus to know it was a fairy tale and we sure as shate don't need commentators or shady officials to tell us when infractions, half ass efforts or terrible calls happen in boxing to know it when we see it.
-
Lyle stop making stuff up. Povetkin is limited and maybe one step away from chunk of Goonies fame but he gave it all he had. He is not big enough to throw Wlad to the ground or tall enough to lean on him like a lanky Quasimodo. The reff was a dick but Wlad is a cad and a bounder like he always has been, he didn't even bother trying to hide it tonight. Shame on him he bottled it against someone that the God awful Marco Huck was willing to trade with. What a pune Wlad is.
-
Re: KLITSCHKO v POVETKIN - HBO/BOXNATION - Saturday Night CHAT THREAD
Eddie Chambers was big enough to Beanz, he tackled Wlad.
It's a fight for the titles don't whine FIGHT. How many times did Frazier look to the Ref when Ali did just like Wlad? Don't complain just play the hand you're dealt.
