Jacobs would beat Canelo, too big and strong for him.

Alvarez struggles with movers. If Jacobs fought the way he fought GGG he'd win a decision but probably get shafted on the cards.

It's hard to say that Canelo is the best middleweight in the world when he hasn't even fought at the weight. You may think he is better than GGG, but he has to fight at the weight first before you declare him the best at the weight.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
I agree with brother Power puncher. Monzon, Hagler, and Hopkins were big middleweights. These guys would weigh 170 before training camp. That will have a impact on this fight. On the other hand I don't think that GGG has been tested by a real champion like Canelo. I'm buying this fight.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
Great matchup.
GGG is a beast but he is getting on in age and he always looks small to me. Canelo is built like a tank, he looks like a human brick. The boxing establishment wants Canelo to win this in a 'passing of the torch' event as he is young and has been groomed for this for years.
Golovkin is the outsider in this one. A thoroughly decent guy and a great fighter who has never got the paydays he deserved...... that's why I'm pulling for him in this one.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
GGG has the power advantage , Canelo has the speed of hand .
Both have rock chins , this one will be a good fight I think.

Completely agree.
Who has Canelo fought at middleweight apart from Chavez jr?
Canelo better hope GGG gets old in the latter part of the fight.

He could’ve gone to 168 and fought Ward (HBO would’ve paid him)
Even Abraham or Froch would have been career high paydays for him
Personally, I can’t wait to see Canelo beat this guy up and end the hype.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
I'd favour Canelo over Jacobs.
I think Jacob's was flattered a bit by Golovkin. I don't really think it was as close as many do and also think he benefited from Golovkin's forcing style which allowed him to look good in eye-catching bursts. Canelo fights at a much more safety first/sedate pace which would either force Jacobs to be more assertive or get blamed for being too negative.

Canelo has barely beaten the good names on your list with help from hometown judges and cheating at the weight.

The Lara win is comparable to the Jacobs win for GGG. People make the the same complaint about that win for Canelo that they do about GGG's over Jacobs, although I believe that Canelo and GGG beat them in close but comfortable decisions.
The rest of Canelo's wins are no better or worse than GGG's. If anything, Canelo also has stayed away from punchers. GGG has not (see Lemiuex and Stevens); indicative that the Canelo braintrust might have questions about Canelo's durability. Makes sense considering Cotto's brother stunning Canelo at 154 back in the day. GGG hasn't been shook up in any fight.
With that said, the speed of Brook clearly troubled GGG for a bit in their fight. Canelo is faster than Brook. Canelo's reflexes are better than Brook too.
There is a blueprint to beat GGG and it requires size and good footwork. Jacobs was successful at boxing and moving albeit he too hit the canvas. Although an exceptional boxer, Canelo is flat footed, doesn't move exceptionally well, and isn't taller/bigger than GGG.
The caveat here is whether the decline in GGG is genuine or a product of good competition. He's a 35 year old middleweight and drug-tested. At some point, he has to slow down a little bit.
At the end of the day, it is a good, competitive fight. No way to think otherwise.
Everything said, GGG faces Canelo in Vegas in front of a largely pro-Canelo crowd; it is tough to imagine GGG winning a decision. Safe bet therefore seems to be Canelo on the cards hedged with GGG by knockout.

Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
It's my mates 40th birthday next Saturday and I was expected to go.
It's going to be an all day event with plenty of drinking.
Unfortunately it'd cost me about £40 quid to get home in a taxi and there is no one that I can blag an overnight stay with...looks like I'm going to have to miss it which means I'll have to stay in and watch the fucking boxing all night...im absolutely devastated that I can't make it :-)
In all fairness it could have been next door and I still wouldn't have gone, no fucking way am I missing this fight for anyone.

@Fenster is one of the more prolific posters at Saddo and I tend to agree with him. However, Canelo struggled a bit with Lara, and the style Jacobs was able to impose with some success on GGG was the same style Lara used with Canelo, and Jacobs walks into the ring weighing 180 pounds and has 3 inches in hight and more in reach on Lara. I don't see it.

So Kirkland, Cotto, Cintron and Angulo all can’t punch?
They all have very decent knockout percentages.
Curtis Stevens is a big puncher based on what?
I know HBO hyped him up before the GGG fight
But let’s be honest, he’s just an average fighter.
Lemieux is a decent puncher but who has he knocked out?
Three of his last six fights have gone the distance.
Jacobs punches hard than both Lemieux and Stevens IMO

Of course, he’s beaten the better fighters at 160
He’s spent his whole career at middleweight.
However, Alvarez beat Cotto, who beat Martinez
Who was the Middleweight champion of the world.
I don’t think Alvarez has ever cheated or been gifted a win
The Lara fight was close but so was the Jacobs fight for GGG.
-
Re: Golovkin-Canelo OFFICIAL!!!- Sept 16th
Forget the lineal nonsense, GGG is the true champion and Cotto and Saul both avoided fighting GGG for a simple reason that he would beat them.
Now Canelo and GBP think that GGG is getting old and looked slow against Jacobs they feel confident that that they can win in Vegas.
GGG is going to destroy Canelo.

Canelo could not even stop an old, small Cotto or Mosley...I think Canelo and Golden boy know something that we are not aware off...if it goes to points then Canelo wins and sets up the rematch.
This is GGG weightclass and he is used to knocking out middleweights.

Is there a rehydration clause? How big can Alvarez blow up to before stepping thru the ropes? Either way though I have always thought he is very underrated as a boxer he does not have enough to outbox Golovkin, and sure as hell ain't outfighting him. I worry if a huge Alvarez manages to finish on his feet, then however one-sided the beating he may well suffer, that the score cards will gift him an improbable win. I hate to cry robbery even after a wonky decision but to be honest it does seem a worrying possibility going in. No fighter should have to go into a fight thinking 'even if I comprehensively outland and outbox this guy the only way I will be given the decision is by knocking him out.
TKO late for GGG who will grind him down. Canelo will be a sucker for the uppercut and I can see him touching down at least once when Golovkin concentrates on the body. It will be very competitive for the first 4 rounds then GGG takes over.

I just can't see ggg losing. That about it. Took the night off and picked up some Guinness so I'm looking forward to it. As I've said I have a strong dislike for canelo since the trout fight

@Beanz Canelo is Mexican, he can out-fight Golovkin
And he can out-box him too. Wherever this fight goes
There's only one outcome and that's a Canelo win.
Better Boxer, better fighter, better man ;)
@walrus You'll be crying into that Guinness
This will be a glory night for Alvarez.
