Excellent boxing by Bivol in round 9
Better boxing Bivol in 9th. Volume and Beterbiev has a few shots but one at a time and always on the reset this round. He needs to go all in here 6-3 Bivol and I'm sober ;D
Bivol wins the start of the round but Beterbiev ends it better.
Coin flip 10th both with solid moments. Bivol rips 4 straight 1-2s snapping Beterbiev, Beterbiev closes strong and Has Bivol shelled up a bit. Where the hell is his body work! 6-4 Bivol
Appreciate the RBR guys, I can’t watch this live(F fall weddings)
Dominant 11th by Beterbiev.
Most effecting round late on for Beterbiev. Bivol started sharp but Beterbiev finally invests in the body and Bivol feels it! 6-5 Bivol
Beterbiev wins the 12 th Bivol looked exhausted.
Tight contest could be a draw.
i've got artur winning. could be a draw
Beterbiev for me. Based on that motherfucker was not going anywhere . You can judge on points but that's bollocks in this fight... Rematch
I like Bivol in the 12th volume boxing. To me Beterbiev just had a helluva time getting started and sustaining it. Bivol always answered back and positioning. End at 115-113 Bivol...these cards are going to have multiple personalities :wisesmilie:
Majority decision for Beterbiev!!
116-112 is complete garbage. Beterbiev gets the nod.
Fantastic decision . although I would entertain a rematch.
Wow, Beterbiev says he'll be better next and then says Bivol is better skilled than him tonight :-X. Must be a language barrier.
Bivol very gracious in defeat. A class act. Bivol eye swollen from the power of Artur.
I had Beterbiev but it was very close.
The literal words from his mouth were Bivol more skilled than me. Other than maybe the 11th I'm not sure where the domination of Betrbiev was. He fought in gaps with very little sustained. His body work was MIA for the vast majority. Great match up, good fight. They def need to rematch but we all know Bivol will not get the rematch. I'd love to be wrong though because both deserve it.
When I was younger many years ago I would get what I call the bias eye. When you focus so much on the guy you want to win or the guy you are hoping to win or the guy you think will win. You find yourself watching only his movements, his slips, his jabs landed, his flurries, his feints, his combination etc. You become blind to what your hero's opponent is doing. I'm not mocking you but its taken me years to balance the judgment of a fight and watch every angle with a non bias view. Tonight I swayed because I could see the commentary lean towards Bivol noting when bivol landed and not so much when Beterbiev landed. I have no idea why they do tis other than the assumption that they favoured bivol before the fight started.
You really have to be honest with yourself and judge a fight for yourself.
By default I learned to tune Bradley out years ago. Commentary in general always has that one house fighter apple polisher yelling up a certain side. As an esthetic and key feature on a broadcast it can be frustrating, but you learn to tune it out and let YOUR eyes read what is unfolding to you. I don't get caught up in cheerleaders unless they're the ring card gals. My bias eye was heavy when I started scoring fights in the early 90's. Often I would shade rounds 10-10 and look back calling a fight a robbery but then realize I had 4,5 "even" rounds ;D. Which in effect is saying, well I have no idea who won that round(s) thus the fight. Sure, we have the occasional even round, but you learn to observe the subtle differences playing out and gameplan execution. Often however so small in close rounds. Used to also try scoring minute to minute as even rounds are near impossible then. End of the day after 30 years and many wrong, and many right I tend to go with the cleaner busier boxer, effective puncher doing more of what he genuinely want to do. Scoring is indeed very subjective and in this newer era I've seen a lot of fall back on punch stats. Those also can be pretty misleading imo.
Gutted that I missed the fight, but thankful for the great RBR from you guys. Life sometimes gets in the way of the best laid plans. Sounds like the fight lived up to the hype. Nothing but respect for these two. I'll obviously try and catch it on YouTube or a delayed telecast.
@TIC , I couldn’t have been much more wrong than this! ;D;D;D
Sorry if this has already been posted but did anyone else notice the similarities between the Bivol Beterbiev fight and the Trinidad Dela Hoya fights?
I personally thought Bivol did just enough but can see why he lost.
I know it's wrong but Frazer Clarke should be renamed Taser Face.
What an excellent fight that was, with two guys who are the genuine real deal.
Whilst I originally thought Bivol would box his way to a decision against an ageing and recently injured Beterbiev, that decision could easily have gone either way or even to a draw.
What was interesting was that Bivol and his corner thought they had won, while Beterbiev and his corner seemed deflated when the final bell rang.
Both guys showed amazing fitness, technique power and guts. Bivol was at times masterful while Beterbiev fights like he is made of leather. Two tough guys who behaved impeccably afterwards. Bivol, especially, who was absolutely gutted but refused to complain. Beterbiev, a really intimidating fighter was very smiley and jolly!
What I didn’t like was the totally unappreciative dead crowd, sycophantic sucking up to various Saudis and the permanent presence of that sinister little shit, Turki Alsheikh or whatever he is called.
Same. Probably a combination of lack of hometown fans and no alcohol but the atmosphere over there is a bit dead. Remind me of the Vegas Mayweather fights (apart from Hatton fans and Mexican fans).
It didn't effect the quality of the fight but it would be enhanced with an atmosphere.
@TIC , Any more links? Both those 2 have been taken down. I watched the first 6 rounds earlier on the X link , but it’s been blocked.
I thought Bivol would win but watching the fight back again ? It wasn't a robbery, nor was it a "Allah Akbar" decision. Guys, we have pro boxing and amateur boxing.
The pro ranks is the pain game.
If you want to tally up landed up punches and score it based on that then maybe amateur boxing is more your speed. That whole Mayweather stuff only works in the lower weight classes. It's hard to rely totally on your technical boxing skills at 175 plus. If you can't bang a little bit at the higher weights then you are in trouble against the elites of the division. Judges are harsh towards "negative fighters" and will reward who's seeking the fight when nothing is landing. Did Bivol really do enough to take it away from the champ who had 3 belts ? I'm still not sure.
I'm good with a draw, and I wouldnt debate against a 7-5 Bivol win, but personally, I have no problem with AB being being the winner. Bivol definitely seem to be outboxing and outlanding Artur for the majority of the match, but he didn't impose his will on AB and he was nearly no mas’ing in the championship rounds. I got the sense that Bivol did well to survive the championship rounds, but it was a lot of just that, surviving. And AB took control near the end of what were otherwise close rounds
And I want to say something else about AB.
You know I'm a year older than AB. He's 39.
When I was a lot younger and stupid, I tried PEDS (light dosage and light stuffs, like deca, test, oxandrolone, stanozolol and Metandienone) of course not all in 1 cycle. I have like 3-4 cycle in total but I pretty much know most stuffs, and I know how it works. I have to say that I've ALWAYS been suspicious of AB. Nobody can out macho him. He's just a tank. His strength is not normal.
His last two fights were postponed due to "injury"

And then he had his testosrone controversy

I just don't buy that at the 39 years old, you will somehow have "elevated" levels especially for this, and HGH (Human Growth Hormone) is one of the key stuffs for athlete to take. Body naturally can produce a lot of stuffs, but your test is going to be hit when you hit 32-33, and especially at your late 30s. I don't know much about the HGH, as it's dangerous, but the benefits for athletes are huge. This is just ain't a good look. Let's be real he was most likely cycling off,
But it could mean anything. It could very well means Beterbiev is juicing like mad, and he mismanaged his cycle, and that's why he delays fight and they slipped up with the cycle/masking agents etc.
Or it could very well be just an unusual case, and Beterbiev is clean as a whistle.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was roided out of his mind. Any big outlier who fights like a wrecking ball should be suspect.
If a fighter has atypically high levels of endogenous hormones, then you would expect them to continually test at an "abnormal" level. Sudden spikes are only indicative of a mistimed cycle. And somehow magically his next few test, somehow was in the norm
Russia's Olympic teams were doping like nuts when Beterbiev competed for them, so I'd be very, very surprised if he wasn't on the sauce by then. Also unlikely that he went cold turkey as a pro and was unfortunate enough to have an "atypical" result. The only way to have higher than normal Testosterone and HGH levels at 39 years old is by being on Peds. There is no way to have high level of test at 39 years old, and be natural.
Trust me I know.
Innocent until proven guilty. Beterbiev lives the life of a dedicated boxer.
I didn't really score it, but I thought Beterbiev got on top. Bivol not quite the firepower to keep him honest. The commentary from Woodhall, Dempsey (I think) and Carl Frampton in the studio between rounds, was nothing short of disgusting. Frampton wrote Bivol off before half way. I think it was the 9th Bivol cantered. Woodhall and Dempsey didn't have the grace to give him any credit. All they could muster was how Bivol wasn't hurting Beterbiev.
Talking of hurt. Big Fraze getting his canister rearranged like that was a shocker. I thought the nose really hampered Wardley in the first fight. I also think there was a touch of imposter syndrome going on too. Not sure he truly believed he belonged. I expected him to be better second go around. Not that much better though. That injury looked like it might be enough to make Frazer think about jacking it in. That's going to take some coming back from.
Talking of grace. Conor Benn is completely lacking any isn't he? What a repellent cunt. I suppose me mentioning him means he's done his job. I can't believe I'm saying this. But this will be the first time I hope Eubank batters Benn.
Eubank, Opetaia and Nicolson did what they wanted didn't they.
Ben Whittaker. Busted flush. Shame.

A hole in the head ? Due to a broken cheekbone and a detached jaw. Man man man..... You don't play boxing. I wish Frazier all the best in his recovery
Wardley & Wilder need to talk
I'd be surprised if we saw Clarke box again due to the severity of that injury. This is the glass era. Only Hrgovic holding the fort.
Clarke's problem is his physicality. A heavyweight boxer’s neck should be wider than their jaw. Proportionally, Clarke’s is very small. And he carries a lot of bodyfat. He’s just not a great athlete clearly, albeit a competent boxer with good fundamentals.
the youtube one still seems to be up for me
this one is working as of this post

Cheers @TIC, just watched it. Gotta be honest , I may be biased, but I had Bivol winning it by at least 2 rounds.
The problem was that Bivol was on the back foot most of the fight. It’s hard to look like you’re winning the fight like that.
But pro boxing is scored on rounds won. Unless you knock someone down or completely batter someone in a round, it’s 10-9.
And Bivol won more rounds, landed with more combinations, more punches. Just because they didn’t have an effect because Beterbiev is made of stone doesn’t matter. You don’t win rounds by absorbing punches.
I can see why judges gave Beterbiev rounds, but it doesn’t make it right.
