Was talking about that last month with a few. A massive EMP or grids, easily. On the fiber optic I had that twice late last year. It was cut blocks away with construction. We were down down for 30 days and then 9 second time. Of course still had phones in spots. Still convinced the old heads aka geezers do have a better time of it if need be as we grew up without.
