Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
IMO Tyson at his prime would have KO'd a prime Lewis! They were both brillant at what they did but my feeling is Tyson's power would be the difference. Lewis would have to fight a perfect fight for 12 rounds as I don't see a prime Tyson getting stopped by Lewis! Whereas Tyson can trail all the way & make many mistakes but one error from Lewis & it would be all over!
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
I think Lewis would be able to take Tyson deep into the fight and eventually win with a 11 round TKO. Even if you think Prime Tyson's defensive skills would have made him a hard target for Lewis I stil think the guy is rather mentally and emotionally fragile. I think Lewis's jab and size would be able to keep Tyson on the outside and tie him up on the inside. Tyson would land some but so would Lewis. And I think eventually Lewis would win the battle of wills.

Lewis has known Mike since high school and I think he would be prepared for what he had to offer. Tyson would have sustained the attack longer though..he would have been throwing combos into and past the 5th round. I just think Lewis was too good for him and the right cross and uppercuts would eventually slow Mike down
Prime has to deal with how old you are but mainly how old you fight...Bowe after fighting Holyfield 3 times fought Golota like he was 82!
BS man. Then the Vitali fight should be stricken from his pro record as well. It never happened. Didn't count. He was far more outta shape for that fight than for the Rahman fight, and any rounds Vitali may have won, should not count. Go stick YOUR head back up both Klitschkos butts yourself!

With Rooney in his corner Tyson was at his best. He was mentally at his strongest. Lewis wouldn't be able to tie Tyson up on the inside. In his youth Tyson was continually moving & throwning punches, down to the body back to the head. Sure Lewis would try to control things with his jab but Tyson would catch him sooner or later!
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
I think saying that Tyson was mentally toughest with Rooney in his corner is a little misleading. First of all Tyson at his most mentally and emotionally sound is still less than what I think necessary for great fighter. Not to mention he was beating up a bunch of average fighters at best. Who doesn't feel on top of the world when they are beating up a bunch of cans?

Spinks is a hall of famer, he took Holmes to two razor close decisions, that's no fluke! Tyson took him out in one round. Look at Lewis' record the only great name is Holyfield. If your trying to say Tysons opposition was limited, Lewis never really fought anyone either until Holyfield!

Good post ice cold CC !
Lewis beat everyone he fought . Quite clearly the best heavyweight of the lst era . Olimpic gold was followed by professional dominance . Bowe and Tyson wanted no part of him . Evander avoided him for as long as he could and in his last fight he stopped the heir apparent in 6 rounds . It had been a great career , just ashame others were reluctant to test themselves against him
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
cc back at you and i agree with ur post

Don't give me Morrison & Ruddock. Morrison was blasted out by Mercer who went on to loss to a Holmes who Tyson cooled in 4 rounds. Tyson fought & beat Ruddock 3 years after his prime! Look @ my previous posts I'm talking up to Spinks. Tyson's prime ended in 88 IMO. Plus Tyson had already taken care of Tucker in 87, 6 years before Lewis. My comment about Lewis comp was only to state that Lewis' opposition was no better than Tyson's on the way up. If anything Tyson's was better.
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
OK in reality there is no way these guys fight in each others' prime because Tyson was cooling in 88 and Lewis was just getting started.
Lewis would still beat him

Tyson's "prime" ended at 22 years old?...you play these "telephone" references with Morrison, Mercer, Spinks and Holmes...but the fact is Tyson beat up a 38 year old Holmes after a two year layoff if you want to count that fight you have to count the Lewis/Tyson massacre as a valid fight...arguing about Spinks is ridiculous, he was a great Light Heavy that capitalized on an opportunity to pocket 13.7 mil and because a fight ends in one round or 12 rounds is generally irrelavant if you believe styles make fights...ask yourself a question, why did Tyson avoid Mercer, Holyfield,Morrison and Foreman? a Tyson/Morrison fight would have been the biggest grossing fight in history..... and why did Mike make such "b" level fighters like Douglas and Ruddock look so good? Answer: because Tyson was/is overrated, face it...

Bro I don't count the Holmes fight not at all, only using it to show how bad Morrison & Mercer were. Someone else brought those two guys up, just saying Tyson had already out done them. Arguing Spinks is ridiculous, what are you on about he went 30 rounds with Holmes who was in no way past his best!!! Fights like Douglas & Ruddock came when Tyson was on the slide, as I said in all my posts here Tyson was going down hill after the Spinks victory. You could see it in his 1st fight with Bruno. Put any of those guys in with a Tyson prior to 88 & he knocks them all on their a**!!!
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
holmes was fading since 82 he wasnt no where near hes best against spinks and still should of won 2nd fight
Re: prime tyson vs prime lewis
If Tyson is so overrated, why did nobody else set the Heavyweight world alight for so many years before or since him. If he was in the same league as the likes of Mercer and Morrison why didn't they dominate like he did, his era was no worse than almost any (apart from 2) in history.
People just remember the slugger he became and no the great fighter he was. If he retired in 89 he would be in everybodies top 5 greatest heavyweights of all time and he still is in mine!!
