My father fought in Vietnam... Didn't just fight but was wounded in action twice. He is my hero. People like him have alowed our freedom for many years.
I served for 4 years in the military and 3 months in Iraq(not in a very hostile area, outside of Mosel... a small town) I din't serve like my father. he got 2 purple hearts in Vietnam... He is a hero. Mine anyway. But I digress. My point is this-

I disagree....
He became a deeply religous man.(not an excuse... keep readin) He did not dodge the draft... He didn't do anything but due what he beleaved in. How can you not respect that. He served jail time. He fought his war here. (this comes from a Vet) I will never fault him for that. Go to war... Or go to jail! He did the latter... He showed that we all have a choice. We do not have to be robots, although I would nt have chosehis path. I think him a hero in 2 ways-1. He stood up for his religion and what he believed in... 2- He was one of the best P4P's of all time... And his life story is one for the books... Live well Ali!

I agree your father. only we should have kicked Ali's country ass outta the U.S on release from jail with complete loss of citzenship the cowardly fuck ! . That my opinion ! ;D

Speaking of Malcom ... I once managed a lodge at a nature preserve type facility that was owned by a college. Different groups would reserve and use the facility. One of them was the Black Student Union which came up for a two-day retreat each fall.
I'd keep the fires going (we heated with wood) in the fireplace inserts at each end of the main hall.
I'd have to do so sometimes in the middle of events; such is the need for heat when there is snow on the ground.
So I quietly let myself in, trying to be as unnoticed as possible so as not to disturb, and there are 60 or 70 black students sitting on the floor, watching a documentary on Malcom X on the movie screen. As I filled the stove, I heard him start talking about 'whitey' in the worst possible terms, how whitey had done this and that and kept the black folk down ...
I had never heard any of his rhetoric that was quite that anti-white.
It was a very uncomfortable "whitey" that stepped out from behind that movie screen and, even more quietly than I had entered the room, but certainly more quickly, found my way to the exit ...
