I am not sure the Jermaine I saw tonight could beat Miranda, Pavlik, Abraham or Calzaghe, even as bad as Calzaghe looked against Bika.
How did others see the fight??
Jermain hasn't improved much since Hopkins I fight. Still fights relatively the same.
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
He'll need time with Manny to improve....the kid has heart which is his best attribute right now which isn't good considering the depth of the division.
If he fights the way manny wants him to he'll be an all-time great
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Even with the "schooling" and "education" that Bernard and Winky gave him, he still hasn't improved by leaps and bounds. Sharing the ring is supposed to do that right? Jermain certainly doesn't learn as fast as Cintron. The next fight will tell for sure, but as the evidence stands... Taylor can't learn anymore.
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I love JT for his heart and toughness and willingness to fight the best. That being said, he needs to sharpen his defence cause he can't afford to get hit cleanly by guys like Miranda.
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
JT pisses me off when he backs into the ropes. As much as I love the guy, that's about the most retarded strategy a pro boxer can employ.
But for all of you saying that a KO should have been a breeze - take note that Ouma has NEVER been knocked out, and it's doubtful that a man with his heart ever will be.
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Toney and Mayweather Jr. back against the ropes often and they don't suffer because of it

Lyle, you know Taylor doesn't have half the handspeed or technical skill that either of those guys have. He also has NO inside game.

B-Hop did not really even TRY to fight a single round until the 5th or 6th round...sound on or sound off he lost 6 straight rounds dude, in both fights. I've watched again and again and I try to see where B-Hop wins one of the early rounds and he doesn't. But the thing is he ALWAYS waited to start fighting vs Joppy, vs Trinidad, vs De la Hoya....Hopkins was very patient and it finally cost him because someone did the math and went after him to grab up those early rounds and build a cushion
I didn't say anything about the Winky fight other than he deserved a rematch I didn't say he won or lost
You hate on HBO commentators or the judges hating on a fighter because THE JUDGES said he won is ridiculous.
I'm not saying you HAVE to like Jermain but you hate on him for something he had no part of doing which is judging a fight.
be tired of my mouth all you like I'm just saying Jermain has talent but it's very raw and having a trainer like Manny will help him. He's not the kind of fighter who can just go in and throw punches and rely on his power or his punch output like a Ricardo Mayorga not that he's not talented but it's a different kind of talent. JT has physical attributes which help his fight game, and Mayorga has his they are different but I just think you totally discredit Jermain when it's obvious the guy has talent.
Mayorga and fighters like him are able to go full steam ahead, and improvise an attack. Taylor seems like he wants to just go out there and brawl but he doesn't have that in him, when he tries his punches get wide and his misses too often. Being selective on when you throw and being patient with your attack is not a sign of little skill but is just different than what brawlers do. JT doesn't need to do that and yes he did need to hold on the inside or spin out on Ouma because when a guy throws that many punches you cannot let him let his hands go.
Sorry I offended you but I (like yourself) get tired of people hating on boxers I like as well
Fine, you are forgiven, we are cool, for now, till bout 2 days from now when we get into it again, or the next time Wladimir Klitschko's name is brought up. ;D And, honestly I cannot see how anyone, even yourself can actually like Jermain Taylor. I know he's a good fighter, he's the third best MW in the world, and has enuff talent and skills to have pushed and given trouble to #1(B-hop) and #2(Winky). And yes IMO he does have something to do with accepting such bogus gift decisions, a real man, would stand up and say "No, I did not beat Bernard the first time and I know it", like Winky did with Bronco Mckart way back when. Jermain is a decent guy, nice kid, but has just gone along for the ride on HBO's hype machine, and has screwed over Bernard, ending his title reign on a BS decision, and screwed over Wright, which i could care less bout Wright but still. Taylor is a phoney. And he fought a piss poor fight against a smaller guy the other night, he did deserve to win that decision though. Not by those large of margins, but he won the fight.
