I am not saying that I think they would beat Jones, its just they all would have been big fights so why did he not seem keen to make them happen instead of fighting some of they guys he did.
I ask again,"WHAT PUNCHER HAS JONES EVER FACED"?
Bernard Hopkins, James "Lights Out" Toney, Richard "Destroyer" Hall, and John Ruiz actually has KO'd a few legit HW's before, like Fres Oquendo, so theres 4 right there.
Hopkins and Toney will go down as great boxers NOT PUNCHERS.
Yeah and Mike Tyson will go down as the man who bit that guy's ear off. But guess what, Toney, and damn sure Hopkins were both considered punchers when Jones faced them. Also Thomas Tate and Merqui Sosa, as I mentioned before, were both KO'd in 2 rounds by Jones, and both were defineately considered punchers. Hell James Toney recently said after the first Peter fight, that Sosa hit him harder than Sam Peter.

:coolclick: Yep. Hopkins had knocked out either 15 or 16 men by the time that he & Jones faced each other & a mess of those knockouts came in the first round.
Not so sure about Toney's drops...as I just don't keep up with the fat man's career anymore.
Jones does deserve respect...anyway that you slice it.

Thats true. But his devastating KO's over Michal Nunn, and Prince Charles Williams were not BullShit. They were legit.

Dont get me wrong,Toney can dig a bit but,you wont find him on any list of hardest punchers of the 90's.

He'd make the top 20 at least I imagine. They didn't call him "lights out" for nothing. Jones himself was a very hard puncher. And like I've said, he for sure took on some big punchers, that could crack. I don't know what you are lookin for man, a Tyson? A Tito? Benn? Other than them, he fought a lot of power punchers.

Whatever, you know you are wrong, I proved you wrong, and you are grasping for straws, trying to maintain your ignorant contention that Roy Jones Jr. in his 10 year stay as P4P best in the world never faced a puncher, when clearly he faced at least 5 of them, which I named.
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???

Ok then let me put it this way.
Jones avoided certian boxers that were reguarded as harder punchers than the blokes you have named even though they would have been much bigger fights in terms of money and fights that fans wanted to see.
IMO Jones against Benn for example would have been an easy fight for Jones on paper, but Jones did not want the fight. He fought fighters who for the most part nobody had heard of or cared about watching.
The only reason I can think of was that Jones was scared of the punch power of Benn.
Cant think of any other reason!!!!!!!!!!
Can you???????????????????????
Re: Is Roy Jones an all time great or just 1 of the best of his era???
The whole "i dont want to participate in a revenge fight" issue comes to mind.
Dont really wanna argue with that.

Yeah, maybe Roy didn't want to literally KILL Benn in revenger for his friend. Which he would have been quite capable of doing against the very amatuerish and technically unsound Nigel Benn, great of puncher as he might have been.
