Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
SORRY MATE BUT YOUR WRONG ;)
ALL OVER THE BACKPAGES OF THE PAPERS THIS MORNING AND OSCAR WANTS THIS SO THEY COULD EASILY DO THIS AT A CATCHWEIGHT 8)
www.mirror.co.uk
RICKY HATTON will be offered a £30million super-fight against Oscar De La Hoya at the new Wembley Stadium if he beats Jose Luis Castillo here tonight.
De La Hoya, known as The Golden Boy, has told friends it is one of his last ambitions to fight Hatton at Wembley before he retires. And Hatton, who is being supported in Las Vegas by pal Wayne Rooney and a host of Premiership stars, is desperate to add another big name to his list of conquests.
Manchester City fan Hatton, who received a message of support from the club's potential new owner Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday, is quickly becoming one of boxing's most sought-after opponents.
Negotiations have not yet begun but it is thought that the fight would take place in September or October at welterweight, with Hatton moving up a division and De La Hoya moving down one.
Hatton's all-action style has already turned him into the leading boxing attraction in Britain and he is an outstanding ambassador for the sport.
But if he beats Castillo tonight and then inks a deal to face De La Hoya, it will turn him into one of the country's sporting superstars. Hatton is already one of the biggest draws in world boxing and nearly 10,000 British fight fans, including Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Wes Brown, have travelled to Las Vegas to see tonight's fight at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Rooney visited Hatton at his gym off the Las Vegas strip here on Wednesday and will carry Hatton's IBO world title belt into the ring.
"I'm really buzzing about it all because Ricky has become a great pal," said Rooney. "It's the first time in Vegas for me and Coleen and we are looking forward to the fight immensely.
"I'm incredibly proud of what Ricky has done and also to carry his belt into the ring. I know it will be one of the most fabulous experiences of my life."
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
News like this will make me root for Castillo even more. Hatton has no business getting into the ring with De La Hoya. Oscar would not go down to 140. Hell, he'd be hard pressed to go down to 147. Hatton has not proven SQUAT at 147. So what the hell's the point? I'd rather see someone like Floyd go down to some catch weight and fight Hatton. Either way, it's a sure loss for Hatton. I'd just rather not see it happen against the "Golden Boy."
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
If oscar wer to go down to 147 id favour most fighters to beat him. The weight loss would be far to gruelling on his aging body.
With hatton, a horrible weight drop like that and ricky's high pace, Oscar would wilt. It would be near a physical impossibility for him to go the distance, IMO

If you're right about Oscar wilting at 147, and I'm not quite so sure, then be assured that Oscar will not fight at 147. The fight would then be made at a higher weight...... say, 150-151. My point? That ol' Oscar NEVER gets himself in a position where he can lose. He made Floyd fight him at 154, way above Floyd's optimum fighting weight. Somehow it backfired, however, and Oscar still lost. Oscar is a calculating, smart, savvy guy. He will not fight Hatton at a weight where he is weight drained and set up for the kill. And if he did, it would be only the second miscalculation of his career. (Fighting Hopkins at 160 was his first).
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
I am a fan of Hatton and like watching his fights but I am sorry.....
For Hatton to meet DLH at 147 would be bad news for the hitman who was lucky to win his last visit to 147...at 154 DLH would slaughter him....Ricky is not exactly defensive minded and love him or hate him DLH can bang in close and WILL go to to toe if you want to...Too much power for Hatton to handle especially if DLH unloads on him

Gotta love that song in the background with the Rocky workout music in it
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
CC tito fan...But likewise i think its rickys responsibility to avoid taking a fight at a weight ie 154, wher he will be ridiculously outgunned.
Good analysis of Oscar tho!!
daxx-I dont think ricky would go toe to toe with him....Probably adopting a strategy similar to that against Philips or Tackie...However, DLH is far superior to either of these so it would be a fight in an entirely different dimension of boxing.
But ya no what, and i no its just blind faith, but i Giv ricky a chance.
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
CC back, hitman. Mind you, my thoughts on Hatton-Oscar have more to do with Oscar than with Hatton. In other words, I'm not underestimating Hatton's skills or desire. I'm just saying what I've said since Day One in this forum. Oscar De La Hoya is a great fighter, who nonetheless has always been extremely careful (maybe too much so) with his "legacy." He is not about to enter into a fight unless he's got (in his mind) at least a 80% or higher chance of winning. His only risk was Hopkins, and it ended badly. Beyond that, every fight has been calculated backwards and forwards.

I agree with you on the fact going into the fight toe to toe would not be hattons plan but I don't think he could outbox DLH and I think his best chance would be to outwork him....I would like to see Hatton VS Corey Spinks at 154....Spinks light hitting style and Rickys relentless attact would be a great old fasioned Boxer VS puncher bout
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
Absolutely. I think that point is most clearly illustrated when u consider his last "comeback" fight after a layoff. He picked Mayorga. A guy he KNEW he could beat, if not with his power, with his skills. But it still made him look like a super hero ;D
But i do agree that he is an exceptionally talented fighter, and hell, he's pretty excitin too!
Totally in agreement Daxx...And il CC ya as soon as i can for planting a new dream fight in my mind!!!
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
Obviously, Oscar is looking for big names only. And he won't go below 147, where Hatton's only experience was less than convincing. So here's a novel idea............ how 'bout Cotto?
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
We've seen Cotto on the floor a plenty and come back to win ...ok. And I love Cotto!!!! I really do but.....I think that DLH stops Cotto in the mid rounds. Zab wobbled him 3 times seriously with the left hook/uppercut. Oscar can top that power, and even in one burst per round can unleash more punches than Zab did....
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
I think Cotto has too much firepower for DLH at 147. If Oscar thought Hopkins' liver shot was bad, imagine what he'll think when Cotto digs one of his patented body shots into him at close quarters. (My mouth waters just thinking of the possibility).
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
At147? Sorry i had presumed u meant at a catch weight suiting oscar :)
Well again i would see Oscar drained from making weight and not carrying as much power.
Actually this really make u realise the difference that weight makes to boxing ;D
Yeah i think Cotto could grind out a split or Ud

LOL. Actually hitman, I just contradicted myself. Yeah, what was I thinking? Oscar wouldn't come down to 147 to meet Cotto. He'd try to make him go up even more, maybe 154, where Oscar would feel that Cotto would be easy pickings for him. Obviously, at 154 it would be a whole different ballgame.
Re: HATTON WANTS OSCAR @ WEMBLEY STADIUM
HaHa no worries mate. Its really amazing the difference the weight makes tho!!!!
