The style was HORRIBLE vs the same people it was supposed to work against. It worked very well against SOME tall lanky fighters and vs others it didn't work at all. Also pressure fighters like Holyfield did well vs that style.
Mike Tyson was a very good fighter and he beat a lot of decent competition but not alot of GREAT competition. I think his style, his heart, and his psyche would make him vulnerable vs the greatest heavyweight of all-time no matter what their size
lmao at this guy saying 'no matter what their size' as if trying to imply for us not to forget about the forgettable midget Marciano ;D lol, Tyson KO Mariano in 19 seconds (including the 10 count) ;D ;D
Re: Why Do People Think Tyson Is Unbeatable ??
....do you start all your posts like that?
"lmao at this guy"
Yeah so I say Marciano could beat Tyson....you can't prove me wrong and I can't prove myself right....it's called an OPINION
Unlike me calling you a jackass.....that's a FACT
Thanks for playing Fact vs Opinion....you are the winner, here's your prize :fyou:
lmao at this guy getting OWNED......bastard
Re: Why Do People Think Tyson Is Unbeatable ??
I haven't read all of this thread, but just to say ICECOLD you weren't even born when Tyson was in his prime, you may have caught some fights on tape, but you weren't there and you cannot possible appreciate him fully
Hardly ever has there been a really great Heavyweight division!! Tyson's division was better than your idol Holmes' I mean those 7 yeras 1978 - 1985 were fooking awful, the likes of John Tate, Mike Weaver and Gerry Coetzer being champions. The only really great eras were early seventies and early nineties. Johndon, Dempsey, Liston Marciano & Holmes did not fight in any better company than Tyson in his prime!!
If he was so ordinary why did he have more interest then any fighter since Ali and no fighter since himself?? And it wasn't coz of his life out of the ring, becuase up to 88-89 his fame was for boxing not raping!
He was a complete wreck against Douglas and many many people claim he was on drugs, after that he went to prison for what 3 or 4 years, how could he ever come vack from that. So pretty much after Spinks Tyson was a fading force. But mark my words if he retired after the Spinks fight everybody who follows boxing including all boxing writers in the world would have Tyson top 5 atleast of all time, most would have him 1 or 2. If you ask the same people now most wouldn't have him top 10. This is due to all of our short terms memories being of his demise, but primes are about primes, however short thoser primes may be, and 1986 -1988 Mike Tyson is one of the greatest heavyweights in history, no doubt in my mind!!! And anybody who thinks he was just a puncher should watch some of the footage of him watching the old greats and adapting their styles, he had virtually every tool in the box!!
End of
How was that Miles old son

Fair play Lyle, but cast your mind back and be completely honest, if you didn't know what you know now, after the Spinks fight where would you have Tyson on your all time Heavyweight list ?
Re: Why Do People Think Tyson Is Unbeatable ??
...oh yeah, before Tyson was totally dominated, shit yeah he was crazy good.
But also looking at guys like Floyd Patterson, you knew the style could be taken advantage of....people were just too fucking scared to do it vs Tyson. You see the people punch and they never punched with the attitude they wanted to hurt Tyson but just stop him from hurting them, if that makes sense.
I could have watched Tyson and Bruno fight 50 times

I suppose it comes down to whether you think he always had weaknesses that just weren't exploited, or whether the weaknesses devloped after all his problems. Nobody knows, but I tend to think that if he was there for the taking atleast one of those first 30 odd opponents would have atleast looked like they could possible win, but none of them came remotely close, he was just too good and that can't just be about fear.
Again all opinions :-\
Re: Why Do People Think Tyson Is Unbeatable ??
yeah I didn't mean that ALL the punches were thrown out of fear but there were definently a couple that were....some fighters legitimately believed they had a shot at Mike and honestly they got outboxed and knocked out just due to a lack of skill....Tyson used to be a monster in the gym and after that stopped his small weaknesses became big gaping weaknesses waiting to be exploited

Not much difference to be honest and as i said again i don't rate Tyson as high as you Big H but doesn't mean i don't think he is good.
