I know right....apparently JONESJRMAYWEATHER likes the flashy guys a little too much and doesn't realize actually how GREAT Roberto Duran was, on offense and defense!
He had a really good tight defense on the inside much better than pretty much everyone from 135-154 today barring of course Winky Wright.
When you talk about Roberto Duran, you talk about one of the BEST pound for pound boxers OF ALL TIME

:coolclick: Lyle.Durans resume is far superior to Mayweathers. I think if they fought it could be a difficult fight for both guys, but reguardless of who would win Duran is the greater fighter.
SRL, even though he was flashy, was never afraid to mix it up and as Teddy Atlas would say "Act lika a fighter." Floyd is more concerned with winning than putting on a show and giving people a fight. Duran, Hearns, Hagler, and Leonard would go to war for a win, or make a classic fight in defeat. Floyd has never had a truly entertaining fight so hes not the entertainer he thinks he is.
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
Well you see the first Leonard fight Duran BAITED Ray to stand and fight and whaddaya know it played into Duran's favor.
Who would have thought all you needed to do is be an asshole curse his family in spanish and then spit at his wife and kids to draw him into a fight......if Tommy Hearns did that first he would have KO'd Ray in 3!

I guess that's why floyd makes as much money as the heavyweights, because he's not entertaining....
If you ever competed in an individual sport the only person you should be concerned with is yourself...Floyd is entertaining to those who love to see the best be the best..and he'd be fucking stupid to mix it up with guys bigger than him just so those watching can be entertained...boxing is a sport first, if people just want to so see a spectacle then watch UFC, or celebrity boxing...because it about winning fuck the fans.....

JjrMayweather.. Im sorry bro..But your name is off the chart man.. Just strait insane...Lol
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
Duran was great but overrated. His lightweight competition was not at all equal to him to show how good he really was. And people insulted Jones for fighting bad competition at light heavyweight. When Duran moved up he got Ray to fight him in a phonebooth, but then he gets beat easily the next two times. And losing to these greats Benitez,Hearns, Hagler doesn't really show Duran as the best ever. But his lightweight reign and then beating Moore and Barkley gets him in a good place in boxing history. He was alot better than Gatti but not the best ever. maybe 25 in p4p . Ray Leonard beat the best and found ways to beat them all. All styles. That is why he at 40 fights in my mind is better than Duran at 119 fights.

thank you finally..someone to say what i've been trying to say all along...i never once was trying to say that duran wasn't an ATG..it's just when i look at some P4P list he's been as high as number four, frequently top ten..and that to me is overrated...and because we're talking about the all time best fighters..if he's rated that high then he'd have to be the most overrated all time....
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
At 135 I would pick Duran over Floyd.....Once at 147 I pick Floyd to outbox an manuver him....Not that he could not outbox Duran at LW just that Robert would brutalize him....
Hearns was a great boxer that some tend to overlook due to his knockouts at 147...Tommy would fight tall and it would be more or less PBF lookking for a way to close the gap all night...Hearns was fast though....Tough call to be honset....If Floyd does not make the mistake of trying to trade for even a second it is a toss up....
Leonard at 147 was fast and STRONG!!!!...Ray had greatly under estimated power....Floyd could not nor would he try to go to to toe with Ray and Ray would catch him if he ran.....Ray had greater combos add that to the power it is Ray's fight by UD
As for Hagler don't be silly here....He would beat Floyd into retirement....Floyd is no power puncher at anyweight....At middleweight his shots would be like mesquito bites to Hagler who had a GRANITE chin and that is no exaggeration......Floyd get's a few rounds in before Marvin owns him....
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
it retarded to even consider floyd vs hagler..
1)because usually a fighter would have at least been at the weight once in his career...
2)floyd's only been to 154 and weighed in at 149..so to even consider him at 160 is ridiculous..

Floyd has made heavyweight money ONE TIME....because a fella named OSCAR DE LA HOYA....not because he's Floyd Mayweather Jr.
It has been proven that no one gives a shit about FLOYD only about who he fights....which is why he couldn't sell out an arena in GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (his hometown) just 4 years ago vs Phillip N'Dou.....compared to blockbuster fighters like Mike Tyson who once said "I could fill Madison Square Garden masterbating".
I don't want Floyd to fight anyone in a phone booth...no one expects that....but I DO expect him to actually FIGHT....maybe I'm wrong....maybe BOXING isn't about punching people and not being punched.....maybe it's about showboating and grandstanding and bling.....yeah that's the sport I love....BLING
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
Mayweather would have found himself on the losing end of a couple decisions. Judges now like action, but judges back then demanded it. In a world where everything is quickly becoming more and more pc, so is boxing. Fights stopped prematurely, 12 round championship fights (there was just a 10 round championship fight recently) and a few other factors have had a sway on judges' and fans' minds and we give more credit than in the past to fighter who artfully dodge rather than engage, who flurry and get out of the way. Not that those things weren't ever appreciated before, but the scale has definitely tipped moreso in that direction. Floyd would have lost 3 or 4 decisions but become a much better fighter by applying those magnificent skills to greater effect. It would have forced him to knock fighters out when he otherwise would have been complacent with coasting to a decision victory because he wouldn't have been able to have the certainty that the judges were seeing what he was seeing. By being a fighter in this era, Mayweather's legacy can never shine as brightly as it could have.

okay maybe floyd doesn't make 20 million a fight but he was getting 8mil and 9mill for fights with baldomir and judah..and reportedly got 7 for gatti..that's alot of money for a fighter his size when bhop's biggest payday was 10mil against oscar..
and you must don't watch boxing because unless delahoya, baldomir, judah, corely, gatti, and all the other fighters that PBF has beaten were hitting themselves someone was causing the swelling and nose bleeds...someone was causing them to be afraid to throw punches..because while simple flatfooted, one dimensional fighters, and their followers usually bill them as "real fighters" and Floyd a "runner" ask that blue collar, blood and guts warrior from Alantic Citynamed Gatti if Floyd just runs. Ask Castillo if floyd just runs..and Not to be a prick because I love Chico, but ask his father if he stopped the fight because Floyd was running too much....
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
This thread has gotten a bit ridiculous. To even compare Duran's resume to that of Floyd's is pure insanity. And i love how people use Gatti as an example of Floyd not being afraid to mix it up. That was one of the biggest mismatches in the history of the sport. A perfectly handpicked opponent for Floyd to show off his speed. To use that as an example of how Floyd would be able to mix it up with guys like Leonard, Hearns, or Duran is ignorant. And liquid summed it up nicely: "By being a fighter in this era, Mayweather's legacy can never shine as brightly as it could have."
