Anyway, to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed with the way the fight ended. I was expecting a KO in the early rounds. Now, my theory had been proven. It went into the distance coz Pacquaio became contented with a UD and Barrera decided not to end his career with a humiliating KO. Watching the 12th round, it's apparent that both of them were becoming cautious and careful. They hardly traded punches during that round. and people were expecting them to go all out in that round. These are the reasons I was gravely frustrated with the fight. Most probably these are also some of the reasons why many are frustrated.
:coolclick: I think that is it in a nutshell. They both showed brief flashes where the fight almost threatened to ignite but Barrera clearly wasn't prepared to risk it all and go to war and Manny clearly wasn't going to go to war when he was winning the fight anyway.
That would be like asking the US to invade a country with tanks and infantry when instead they could just bombarded the S*** out of it with long range missiles, never going to happen.

it was a disappointing fight cos what we wanted to see was 2 millionaires beating each other to a pulp. >:mad
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
Simply put, Manny needed Barrera to exchange but Barrera did'nt and Manny did not pursue it as he used too. After seeing the fight on replay I enjoyed it better for Manny's side because he showed good defense except for Barrera's snappy counter punching. Barrera had a game plan and stuck with it which was not going to work if you cannot out score your opponent. Manny thew a lot of punches but Barrera was content on back pedaling and countering which was not enough for an aggressive opponent. I thought when I was seeing the fight live that it was way closer than what the judges saw but after seeing the fight for the second time I can almost completely agree with lederman except for the other two rounds that i thought Barrera won

I'm glad to see some honesty rather than blind nut hugging like some of the other Pac fans here. CC. I agree, it was frustrating,as a high % of posters here felt the same way. I just didn't see Manny in there. He looked a shell of himself, for what reason,I don't know. It's not even that I was expecting full out trading or a war,I wasn't,Barrerra is no Morales. CC though, you make a valid point.
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
if youre fighting a barrera who doesnt want to engage..well,its gonna be a dull fight.I think manny is out to prove that he isnt just the reckless go-go-go fighter he used to be.His defense and footwork has improved a lot too. However,he could have engage more than what he showed. In the future,a fight with valero should be exciting while a fight with guzman will defenitely be boring! Of course,a rematch with jmm is most logical and financially lucrative.Obiviously,At this stage of pacs career...he has to be push to the edge to bring the "eye of the tiger" look that has somehow mellowed because of good life.A loss would therefore help.Training in the Philippines and starring in a movie is a disrespect to his opponent i should say.Did i enjoy the fight? well, everyone expect manny to knock out barrera or at least tried...it actually became a tactical fight..which for me is boring...yeah..i didnt enjoy the fight...manny should have tried to engage more...he was too nice....the tiger chose to be a house cat that day.
Re: Did you enjoy the Manny fight? I didnt, both fighters looked poor....
Guess i'm in the minority cos I thought it was a good fight. Pac seemed a little off compared to his usual self, but Barrera did well for an old boy.
Sounds like the HBO commentary was ultra negative, maybe that had a little influence over some people.

I watched it without the commentary, just to make sure. I think it's because you're a hardcore MAB fan. No offence, but he didn't impress.

I thought Barrera only lost by a couple of rounds so saw it as competitive throughout. Maybe that's why i enjoyed it more than most.
You may have a point though, I see Barrera as being lightyears past his best, was expecting him to take a beating, and very pleased that didn't happen.

Again i agree i only thought Barrera lost by couple of rounds it was very competitive through first 9 rounds i was predicting MAB to win but it was more of heart thing than a head thing because i've been loyal Barrera fan for years and i thought he would be overwhelmed and he wasn't so props to MAB.

LOL,you were watching the Setanta broadcast. I thought it was a fairly close fight too whilst watching it with them. Watch it without the sound,it was not close. Secondly, here's what MAB said in the aftermatch interview with Setanata(got this from another site)
Said to mario lopez "I have no problems with the loss. People were saying i'll get knocked out in 3 rounds but I was in there for 12 rounds. And I'm very very happy."To me,that epitomizes his philosophy for the fight,to survive. It's like he's saying I survived 12 with Manny.Fighting to survive, not to win. That's my take on it.

I have watched it again. I thought lots of the rounds were close so I have no problem with Pac winning more comfortably than my first impressions, and I believe first impressions is all that counts.
I think Barrera is just being realistic saying that. Most people thought he'd get blown away - he didn't.
As I said, I wasn't expecting much, so it was a good surprise for me. ;)

A clever man. Low expectations=easily surpassed. Smart. :D :D I think my expectations were a bit too high. Ergo the big ass thread containing plenty of moaning ;D ;D

there were still a lot of action there considering it became a tactical fight. had both fighters gone all out in the last round it wouldn't have been such a let down. i guess pac was satisfied taking the win while barerra with not being ko'ed as everyone expected.
