I little off topic but one thing I have always wondered was fighters on the east coast coming to the west to fight at say, Mandalay Bay well, there is a 3 hour difference. So when the fight starts at maybe around 8:00 Mountain time, it is 11:00 eastern time. When a fighter is used to getting up at 5:00 in the morning do to roadwork then do there main training at 3:00 in the afternoon and to be in bed no later than 9:00 or so, then fight night comes and they are fighting at 11:00 at night. I think that would take something out of you whether you noticed it or not no matter how hyped or focused one may be. Joe Calzaghe I guess would be fighting at around 3:00 in the morning then. Maybe that's the real reason why Hopkins wants to fight in New York. ;D

Whether if affects Joe's marketability is another thing altogether. We're discussing whether fighting in Vegas will affect his performance.
His marketability is irrelevant anyway. He's only having one more fight in Wales afterwards.

Long term,yes it did,because alot of people are going to blame him(rightly or wrongly) for his fans acting like it was England-Argentinia in the World Cup Finals
It wont be nearly so once sided for Calzaghe-Hopkins,Bernards considerably more popular in the states then Floyd(that might change shortly,Floyd was actually pretty magnanimous in his victory against Hatton which is a side few have seen of him before)

He fought in Denmark in 2001 (on the Tyson-Nielsen undercard).
Now we can probably all agree that fighting Will McIntyre or even (yup, compared to McIntyre 'even' is the right word to use) Mario Veit abroad and then fighting Bernard Hopkins abroad are different things altogether, but hey, just thought I'd set the facts straight.

As far as the crowd goes the majority will be Calzaghe fans, there'll be a few hundred/thousand Hopkins fans and a bunch of Vegas high rollers with free tickets vaguely supporting the American guy. And the Brits will be the ones making all the noise. It's effectively a home fight for Joe.

I live in WV,go check a map,Im originally from Philadelphia,its an 8 hour drive minimum to visit my home town
The only three fights Bernard has had,at home ,in the last 4 years where Joppy,Tarver,and Hakkar
The Staples Center in LA is 3000 miles away from Philly,he's fought 5 times during that period in Las Vegas,over 2000 miles from Philadelphia

Man, this culture clash comes up time and time and time again. Most people will readily admit that the US is much, much bigger than the UK, and that fact is nowhere near being disputed.
However, because of that fact there is an immense travelling culture in the US whereas in the UK people don't tend to travel around the country so much. People can go a whole life without leaving their area more than five or six times, and although the populus is more mobile than it was 25 years ago, it is still generally a fact that most of the population in Cardiff won't travel to London except on very rare occasions.
Added to this is the exorbitant cost of transport. A return flight from Glasgow to London, only a few hundred miles can't be got for less than £150, whilst a return flight from Philly to Las Vegas starts from around £100 for the same period, so to look purely at the size of nations isn't really a comparison. The cost of fuel here at around 5 or 6 times that in the US is also a preventative factor.
