Good for Cotto
Emmanuel really made him stay fuck us on the jab.
Cotto Footwork Improved. Good performance by him. Cotto stay at 154?
What a fight !!
Cotto did what he had to do. He won the early rounds comfortably enough so I think he is a level above Foreman, but it's a shame that the leg had to give out like it did. An unsatisfactory ending. I think Cotto will stay at 154 too, though I think 147 has the better fights.
i live here. why should i follow whatever you say? before the cotto-foreman match, manny was interviewed and was asked if he would continue fighting in the ring even if he's a congressman. he said it's possible to do just one last match. his mother even gave him her blessings.
it's either he fights cotto (cause he won the match) or floyd. and it would be better if it's with floyd. 'cause fighting cotto would be boring. yes, cotto truly improved but he didn't show any "wow" moment with that fight with foreman. maybe because it was too one-sided cause of the knee and ankle injury or whatsoever. but it doesnt change the fact that he wasn't able to amaze most of the spectators.
Foreman obviously has a knee injury, but lets be real about this. Those logos are extremely dangerous. That's the biggest problem with boxing right now. There was a similar incident in the Abraham Dirrell fight. Dirrell slipped while outboxing on a ring logo. Foreman slipped while outboxing on a ring logo. This fight was ended prematurely due to Foreman slipping on the logo.
In the Abraham Dirrell fight, Dirrell was bailed out because Abraham had an illegal blow when he was down. Foreman was fighting a class boxer in Cotto who doesn't take cheap shots. So Foreman just got up and continued to fight but he was clearly hurt. I mean if Abraham didn't have that illegal blow that ended the fight, Dirrell would have had to continue just like Foreman.
His leg may be a liability, yet the injury occurred when he slipped on a ring logo while outboxing. He then boxed on for multiple rounds all the way into the 9th round. And Cotto landed a body shot only because of the injury due to the logo. Cotto wasn't landing any body shots in the first 6 rounds. All 6 rounds were close rounds and could have went either way. Cotto was probably winning by a points or two before the injury, but it was a very close fight.
This was, without a doubt, a historic and great boxing match. This was an incredible performance by Cotto. This win over Yuri Foreman puts Miguel Cotto #2 in the P4P rankings. Until Mayweather fights again, this win was absolutely incredible for Cotto. Cotto looked so much better at 154. His jab was incredibly strong. Cotto had a reach advantage by 1 inch and it was important. Cotto has a better stronger jab than Foreman. That's how Cotto won this fight.
Foreman didn't have the jab, but in almost every other area he was either even or ahead of Cotto. Foreman used counter punching in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Although the first two rounds were close, I gave them to Cotto. I gave the 3rd and 4th rounds to Yuri Foreman. The 5th round was even and Cotto probably won the 6th although it was close.
It was a very interesting match and Cotto was very impressive. This was a step up for Foreman and Cotto had many more mega fights and this was Foreman's first mega fight main event.
The question is will Foreman's knee heal and how long will he have to recover. But one thing was that Foreman was never hurt by Cotto in the first 6 rounds. Cotto did land some big punches, but Foreman showed he had a pretty good chin. Foreman's chin was fine, it's Foreman's knee.
Basically, I'm not surprised at all that this boxing match ended this way. After Abraham Dirrell I saw many posts complaining about the logos and they still put the logos on the ring to make extra cash for the fight. And basically it makes it so if you outbox you can easily slip on the logo and injury like Foreman.
Yeah Foreman showed heart and still did decent in the final rounds by continuing and Mercante did a great job, but in the end it was a good fight.
This fight had a much different atmosphere to Mayweather Mosley. It was a good fight. I mean Cotto definitely did a great job. But Foreman didn't do bad either. The first 6 rounds of this was very good and some of the best rounds of the year.
Does Foreman deserve a rematch for the 154 title? It seemed like Foreman continued into the late rounds because he realized it was a title fight. Does Pacquiao really want to fight Cotto again?
Foreman didn't slip on the logo's from what I saw, his knee just gave out.
When I first saw it, I thought the same thing, but on the replay it seemed clear that Foreman's knee just gave out from under him. Though I don't dispute that the logo's can be a hazard.
I don't think it was all that close, Cotto won 5 of those first 6 rounds by my reckoning. It's a shame the leg gave out like that because though it wasn't close Foreman was working hard.
I don't think Cotto should fight Manny either. He needs another fight or two working with Manny Steward IMO. Maybe if Pac is still around then it would be plausible, but not yet.
I think this is a bit much. Cotto has not looked good in a long while before tonight, he certainly isn't close to p4p number 2. A good win, and he did look great but he didn't beat an elite fighter by any means.
He did show he wasn't finished however. He won't have much chance against either Martinez or Williams but if they stay at 160 he can certainly do a lot in this division.
I'd fancy him over the other belt holders.
Cotto could be the boxer I feel most sorry for when we look back in 10 years time.
His only losses have come from a steriod pacman and a cheating margarito. Allegedly.;)
