Your country has been a boxing mecca since the Queenberry rules and as a result there is no question historically up to modern day as to which country has had the greatest number of bad calls.
All I am saying is that for the last decade or so Germany has had several questionable calls.
And that this could be added to it even though imo the right man won.
I was all wrong. Thought Sturm would have been much stronger.
Not to take anything away from Geale, but it could be that Sturm is slipping a bit, he's been in the game a long time.
It any event, nice win for the Australian Geale, they can never take that away from him. ;)
Geale should never be underestimated, he is a tough nut alright. Beating Sturm on home turf is not easy, Geale deserves a big US fight soon. He won't be easy pickings for anybody.
Maybe I should have made myself clearer. When I said the benefit of the doubt I was not referring merely to decisions. I have not been in a cave for the last 10 years and am well aware of Wlad and Vitali's immpressive KO total.I also have not forgot Sturm being screwed in Vegas, give me some credit guys, but then at that stage of his career he was hardly going to turn down such a huge opportunity. The fact remains the home town advantage is pretty blatant In Deutschland with reffs and promoters clearly shafting visiting fighters again and again. The grappling ,spoiling, leaning and fouling tactics employed by both Klits, the reff turns a blind eye, then the hometown desicions, Cately - Haussler, Ottke-Reid, Lebdev-Huck,Abraham-Steiglitz,Sylvester-Karmazin the list goes on. Not only do they fight nobodies at home they then have everything skewed in their favour. The undercard is non-exisitent which not only screws over the fans but betrays the paper thin understanding and attatchment the promoters and boxing authorities have for the sport. It is not an indictment of Germany but it's peculiar relationship with boxing. Only there would fighters taking 2:40 of a round off be awarded that round for 20 seconds work.
And for the record last night I had Sturm winning that one.
Otke gave the germans a bad name in regards to bad decisions in boxing, he is the most 'beaten' unbeaten fighter ever! Shame really because german's have produced some legitimate and truly great fighters over recent years, The tall southpaw henry maske who won olympic gold and beat
iran barkley as a pro,The great michalzewski, abraham, otkay urkal, schmelling etc. I don't think we should tarnish all germany with the otke brush!
I don't think the klitschkos do anything outside of the rules either TBH either. In fact they are 2 of the most proffessional fighters i have ever seen, they conduct themselves with absolute class in and out of the ring! I mean they fight worldwide and have hardly ever been deducted a point.
If someone like hopkins had fought with such integrity throughout his career he would have lost more fights IMO! Imagine the klitschko's employing the tactics hopkins has over his career they would be ridiculed.
I followed geale's last few fights and thought he was a fighter coming into his own so expected this win!
Let's give geale credit man i mean the guy has the WBA and IBF belts! He has beaten sturm and Sylvester in germany (So those whining about bad german decisions should STFU!).
He's also beaten Roman Karmazin which is an excellent win and put on an impressive display to beat the tough ghanaian Adama too.
Daniel Geale won 2 world titles the hardest way you can in boxing. He hides from no one. Will any middleweight travel to Australia and challenge him? I dont think so. I think geale will be a tough ask for anyone right now.
