Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Of course he's going to get hyped and especially by HBO and as Max said last night on Hbo's The Fight Game, its getting to the point where an actual boxing contest is considered boring and almost taboo. That is not verbatim but its the jist of it. Instant gratification runs this planet and why should boxing be any different? They better be careful though because the middleweight division is not all that deep. They might hype themselves right out of the contest.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
"He's the best I ever fought. He never really allowed me to get started. He has clubbing power and you can really feel the weight of every punch he throws." Matthew Macklin
“He’s a f__king beast,” said Coyne, a 20-0 cruiserweight prospect who has recently dropped down to light heavyweight. “He’s been running guys out of here. Nobody under 175 pounds will spar with him.
“I’ve sparred with heavyweights who can punch, including Mariusz Wach and Mike Perez, nobody has hit me as hard as Golovkin. His power is out of this world.” Ryan Coyne
“When I first saw him I thought he was the spitting image of Chavez, and it turns out that he fights like him too,” said Jackson, who brought Rogers, his nephew, up the mountain to soak up the professional environment Sanchez has created and, admittedly, to see what all the fuss over Golovkin was about.
“I liked his work ethic before I even knew it was him,” Jackson continued. “Oh man, he trains like an animal! But once he got into the ring, I saw things that reminded me of Chavez. He’s strong and aggressive, but he’s also very accurate with every punch. And I like the body work. That reminds me of Julio.” Julian Jackson
“The dude can hit, I’m still getting used to it,” said Imoesiri, who like Coyne, is delightfully bright and articulate. “It’s crazy. I sparred with [undefeated WBA heavyweight beltholder] Alexander Povetkin and he never hurt me like this guy.
“I must have done 50 rounds while in camp with Povetkin and it was three and half weeks before he hit me with something that made me hold on. With Golovkin I was ready to get out of the ring 45 seconds into our first round of sparring. He hit me with two lefts to the body in the identical spot and had me doubled over. I got through it but it’s hard to defend against 6-inch punches with that much pop. He backs me into a corner with just a jab.
“And it seems like he does it effortlessly.” David Imoesiri

Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Yes, he is clearly for real. He walked through Macklin, but you could see the intelligence in doing so. He was busting Macklin up with EVERY punch. Both eyes were screwed and then that peach of a body shot that doubled Macklin over. I sat there and thought to myself 'That was something special'. He should be a lot of fun over the next few years.
I think Martinez is old now and has been getting older, but they have to fight. You have to fight him and pass the torch on. I don't see what Martinez could do with his fading legs and hands down style. I can see him getting stopped in 6. Prime Martinez would do much better, but he isn't in his prime with all these injuries and age creeping up.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Take a good look at the Macklin fight, Golovkins ring generalship is first class, cutting the ring off
very clinical gets the job done.
That what makes him dangers, nothing flash just a first class boxer no hype just the real deal.!;)

Spot on. If Martinez wants a fight before facing Golovkin, then fair enough, but at some point he has to see him. The only way I would ever rationalize him not seeing him is if he got a Mayweather fight, but I doubt that happens.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Unless GBP want to make the Quillin fight who is for him to fight at 160? Martinez won't go near him, who else is a credible opponent?
Other than that he has to move up as Floyd is a nonstarter. I'd like to see him fight Froch. I think that's definitely in my top three fights I'd like to see.

I think Mayweather is the best option for Martinez. It's a big name for Floyd to sell a PPV with ans Martinez is still technically a pound for pound guy. Martinez gets a big final payday, Floyd gets the credit for beating him.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Whether or not he's the real deal doesn't so much matter to me because he's fun to watch and he seems to carry himself like a true man and well he's the anti-Broner. That alone is a big point for Golovkin's.

This is not true what Ryan Coyne says

If 154's are willing to spar him i'm sure any other weight up from that is. However from reading this article it sounds like Doug Fischer said Golovkin was abit too much for Alvarez is a subtle way.
Gym notes: Alvarez, Golovkin worth driving up a mountain to see | RingTV "So the kid isn’t perfect. I was still impressed with what I saw from him because I realize that he was in with a real beast."
Although things have changed for them both since 2011.
Golovkin comes across as that rare type fighter, and probably the only figter that you could compare to Kostya Tsyzu, “His right hand is like a laser beam. It reminds me of Kostya Tszyu’s right. The way he holds his hands also reminds me of Tszyu. Come to think of it, Golovkin kind of looks of like Tszyu. He’s got the same muscle tone, Central Asian facial features and oil-black hair (sans the pigtail).” Its refreshing to see and i think it adds to the Hype. But from what i have seen of this guy, its not impossible to think that he may become one of Boxing all time greats.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
I'm starting to become a believer.
Theres no hiding that lil faded Ouma went 11 rounds and Rosado went 7 or so, but Golovkin seems to get you sooner or later.
He was utterly in control with Macklin, a proven fighter, from the opening bell and he has that seek and destroy style much like Matthysse.
Everybody loves a KO puncher so why not?
I worry for Martinez after his last fight, the Martinez who beat Pavlik could handle Golovkin, but now I don't know.
Re: Is Golovkin the Real Deal ?
Martinez in his prime would frankly stand no chance of beating GGG,! Sergio is a great light-middle
but hardly a beast at the higher weight.
The Middle weight division, has not been a great division for some time its not littered with top flight
contenders is it,! but I have a feeling its going to get a lot more interesting with Golovkin about.;)

I do not suffer being starstruck by HBO or any one else,! Golovkin is a very good fighter remember
he is a proper Middle-Weight. Look at the fighter not the network, I've seen many fighters through
the years, and it takes a special fighter for me to take interest, GGG is the real deal no Hype no
bullshit. ;)
